Dangers ahead, unimaginable mess and new euphemism

988

I’m still meeting people who haven’t noticed.  Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six.  The last reversal they had was at Celtic Park the first weekend in April.  On Sunday we’re playing the team with the best recent form in Scotland; the warning signs are painted in large green font.

They are dangerous up front, Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player, including several stunners.

The weight of the world rested on Hibs’ shoulders at last season’s Scottish Cup final, when the stage was set for a century of pain to be wiped away by defeating their greatest rivals.  It was too much.  Now they take the field unburdened and vastly more dangerous than St Mirren, Hearts or Kilmarnock were when they overcame Celtic at Hampden recently.

Odds on Hibs are very generous.

I caught some chat online last night.  “Blackmail”, “extortion”, “imprisonment”, “getting rid of the problem”, “a catastrophe of an intensity that you…. clearly do not appear to understand”, “fraudulent”, “once the genie is out it will have a life of its own”.

What an unimaginable mess.

I think “Been an admirer of your recent work” is bound to become a euphemism in years to come for when something that should never have been said or written slips out.  This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened.

Fantastic Q&A with Willie Wallace this morning, thanks to Willie and Winning Captains.  Willie’s recollections of our great times are irresistible.  Reading the book as it came together was a joy.  You’ll love it.

Remember you can start Cup Final weekend by meeting Willie at a book signing at Waterstons’ on Sauchiehall St, tomorrow – 25th May, 46 years on from the day – from 2pm until 4pm.  If you can’t make it you can order a signed copy below.

Thought it was only league goals you were talking about but as this is the cup, it is better to talk about overall goals and on that note Hoops wins.

  2. If we had to lose a Scottish cup final the only team I would accept Celtic losing to is the old lady that is Queens Park, but I wouldn’t be ‘happy’ to lose.

just received from Siobhan McMahon MSP a police account re green brigade complaints.

In total there have bee 72 members of the public who have made complaints either directly to the police or via their MPs, MSPs & local councillors in relation to concerns they have about policing this incident. these concerns vary from complaints about police ‘heavy handedness’ to issues about wasting tax payers money. In the very large majority of cases the complaints have been made are generic & relate to unspecified allegations of misconduct against unspecified officers, mostly ref to video footage seen on TV or on social media sites. Of these34 have refused to engage with police beyond their initial email despite a number of attempts to contact them & 5 have withdrawn their complaint. Of the 33 people who have complained few were actually present at the incident & correspondence has come from all over Scotland & as far afield as the very South of England & even Cyprus. Many of these people are not making specific complaints & merely wish to register their disapproval at alleged treatment of Celtic fans.

I can assure you no one has even attempted to get in touch with me & would be surprised if this wasn’t the case for majority of people who have registered complaints, I would be very surprised if the number of complaints were any where near as few as he has stated?

  7. Gary Hooper has 29 goals from 50 games, according to soccerbase.com. A pretty decent strike rate for someone who has supposedly had a poor season and not been interested according to many.

Griffiths has 28 from 42 and Higdon 27 from 43, so both have slightly better scoring rates than Gary.

whilst i was around in ’72 (being a mere 18 months old!) it was far from my 1st Cup Final.

I think most Tims would agree with you apart from those who judge all Hibs fans by the actions a few. Nevertheless, I was surprised when I read your post. Seemed far too mellow for you.

There’s no other team I’d rather lose a Scottish cup final to than Hibs.

    __________________________________________________________

    I’d second that wan.

I’m not suggesting we will but if we do, well I’d not be that disappointed, especially after all we have achieved this season, this season has been sensational for Celtic, IMO.

My ole gaming pal Lehmann really is a Gem of a person and he was one of the very best 1.6 counterstrikers oot there. He is Hibs daft and well he isnae that daft.

Absolutely no way of proving her to be economical with the truth unless people who have previously contacted their MSPs and the police have their original e-mails,resend them to her and post them on the likes of TSFM.

Alternatively we could start one of them dreaded list thingies of people who did so.

Under the heading of I AM SPARTACUS for example…..

  17. Paul is talking up the opposition before the big game and is damn right. Its essential that both the team & the crowd go into this game in the right frame of mind. We have lost too many crucial Cup games in Hampden. There can be no complacency, if we play well we should win, if we don’t play well we will lose. The crowd has a part to play, everyone must get right behind the team from the start & roar them on to victory. Sunday will be the difference between a good season & a very good season.

  18. I’d go for:

    Lustig Wilson Mulgrew Izzy

    Brown Ledley

    Forrest Commons Samaras

  20. stirlingbhoy on

what is it with some celtic fans with this ‘no other team I’d rather lose to’ crap….defeatist attitude, awful attitude, defeat shouldnt even be on the agenda for sunday!!!!! its a must win for celtic as far as i’m concerned and for lenny even more important so!!! lenny wont survive a defeat on sunday if it happens!! 3-1 Celtic………..

  21. Hibs – The term chip on their shoulder was invented for them. They still cast up that we stole their team in 1888.

They hate Celtic for 1 reason. It should have been them that got all our glory but they sold out. Shame. Most of their fans are decent though and they have no sectarian policy against us.

If they were playing anyone else I would want them to win.

My wife is a Hibee so I always want them to win unless they play us. She has said that Hibs have not lost a big game since my son was born last July. They haven’t been beaten by Hearts this season and they would never have come back against Falkirk in any other season they would never have came back.

Shaping up to be a great final though and Griffiths is a real danger. Any man that can score goals from 40 yards worries me. I agree with the Lisbon Lion though and have gone for 3-1 to the Hoops and Charlie Mulgrew first goal 100/1.

Not sure there is any bar that will be just Celtic in Edinburgh this weekend.

  26. I’m new on here – I’m heading to New York in the morning – staying in Mid Manhattan – what’s the best place to catch the match on Sunday. I looked at Manhattan No1 and Celtic Supporters NY but neither sites are very up to date – can anyone advise.
