Dangers ahead, unimaginable mess and new euphemism

988

I’m still meeting people who haven’t noticed.  Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six.  The last reversal they had was at Celtic Park the first weekend in April.  On Sunday we’re playing the team with the best recent form in Scotland; the warning signs are painted in large green font.

They are dangerous up front, Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player, including several stunners.

The weight of the world rested on Hibs’ shoulders at last season’s Scottish Cup final, when the stage was set for a century of pain to be wiped away by defeating their greatest rivals.  It was too much.  Now they take the field unburdened and vastly more dangerous than St Mirren, Hearts or Kilmarnock were when they overcame Celtic at Hampden recently.

Odds on Hibs are very generous.

I caught some chat online last night.  “Blackmail”, “extortion”, “imprisonment”, “getting rid of the problem”, “a catastrophe of an intensity that you…. clearly do not appear to understand”, “fraudulent”, “once the genie is out it will have a life of its own”.

What an unimaginable mess.

I think “Been an admirer of your recent work” is bound to become a euphemism in years to come for when something that should never have been said or written slips out.  This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened.

Fantastic Q&A with Willie Wallace this morning, thanks to Willie and Winning Captains.  Willie’s recollections of our great times are irresistible.  Reading the book as it came together was a joy.  You’ll love it.

Remember you can start Cup Final weekend by meeting Willie at a book signing at Waterstons’ on Sauchiehall St, tomorrow – 25th May, 46 years on from the day – from 2pm until 4pm.  If you can’t make it you can order a signed copy below.

  1. We should win if we play to top form because on top form we will score more than enough to take the cup.

However if we are at par or below a decision by an official will be a game changer. A dodgy free awarded in Griffiths range ( more than one I reckon) or an early booking on Broonie. The usual stuff that means we have to be hungrier than they are.

There in my opinion is a rather strange build up to Sundays big game I have spoken to a Celtic fan who thinks its Hibernians year to coming on CQN and posters saying if we have to lose they would be happier that it was to Hibs. Now I have been in the away end at Easter Rd. a long time ago mind before all seater stadia and the Hibernian fans were equally as bad as Hearts fans in there dislike for Celtic. The fact they wear green and white and play at Easter Rd and had tenious links with Celtic back in 1888 does not make them Celtic friendly. We must take to the park on Sunday 100% commited to winning the Scottish cup any other half hearted approach will end in tears as happened in the league cup semi-final with St.Mirren.H.H.

just remember form is temporary,Hibs have been playing bottom 6 clubs not the hardest of tasks struggled to beat dundee 1-0, were a better team and if the manager gets his tactics and motivation right(that will be unusual),we should win but always the wild card of willie collum + bobby madden behind a goal may influence the outcome ,as for losing to hibs cant stand them or their fans, too many of whom never go to games except cup finals, while many celtic fans who attend regularily and prop up the game in scotland are denied a ticket

Stopping Hibs from winning should in theory be as easy as stopping Griffiths from doing us damage.

Neil and Johan both played in teams which knew how to deal with a specific threat.

My mate was in NYC and watched a game in the boozer with some Bhoys (no idea which bar – never been myself).

He asked because they were so far away what time their bus left for home games. They just all looked at him.

He managed to redeem himself and ask how many days they left before matches, etc.

Came home and told us on the bus and we fell about laughing. This guy is not the sharpest tool in the box and has been known to wear 4 layers of Celtic T-shirts, strip, tracksuit, jacket, etc even though he knows the pubs in Livi don’t allow colours and we are all going for a pint on the way home.

    twists n turns

Absolutely spot on. Those who carried out this act knew that this would attract the most attention and it worked. While shocking as you say it is no more shocking than the countless deaths of civillians in countries under UK/US military occupation nor more shocking than the murder of a pakistani gentleman in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago, who was killed in a similar fashion to the soldier.

This story is just as shocking (possibly more so as we would expect better of serving personnel) but received little in the way of coverage:

British soldier jailed for stabbing 10 year old

    Mort

Still reading back…. in between getting on with life, but very struck by the “whataboutery” evident in these exchanges between the like-minded apologists.

Update on the Sevco ‘glamour signing’ to be announced on Saturday in what should be an easy task at distracting the media from the Scottish Cup final.

I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Sevco on their big signing – and no irony intended either.

Safe to say Jon Daly’s arrival will be as popular as Le Petit Merde’s was in 1989 among the brains trust. Blackpool may have to brace itself for a night of emotional turmoil.
