Dangers of a league without whipping boys

792

At 1:45 yesterday afternoon the prospects of Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table by the end of the day appeared slight.  The tide has turned in Celtic’s favour in recent weeks but leagues are hard to win and we need only think back to how many chances St Mirren peppered Fraser Forster’s goal with to appreciate the difference between winning games and dropping points.

Teams in the SPL are well organised, even eighth place St Mirren, who are on a run of poor form but apart from a couple of lapses defended well, created more chances than Celtic and played with adventure and confidence.

Celtic are the best team in the league but there will not be a single game before the end of the season in which they will be able to take anything for granted.  The result from yesterday we should pay most attention to is bottom of the league Dunfermline’s 0-3 win at Kilmarnock.  This is a league without whipping boys.

Cannot be fair minded here as Bacelona is my favourite city. The city, like most big cities is expensive in the centre. However the Port Olympic was good value for food when I was there last September, as was any place about a mile away from La Ramblas. July will be hot, but the tube service is all air conditioned as are mosr bars and restaurants. We styaed at Poble Nou, about 3 miles north of La Ramblas, cannot recommend it highly enough as an area , it has its own Rambla de Poble Nou and all food and drink are great value, beach is 5 minutes walk ,very clean and well provided with toilets cafes etc… Going back in May hopefully to see Barca lift the big cup, will be quite a party.

PS on La Rambla de Poble Nou there is a great old style sports bar with great imagery all around and decent priced drink, especially if you get a few word of Catalan in your armoury.

  3. On the subject of Spain, me and the girlfriend are off tae Seville in March, if anyone could give me some tips on where are good places to go it would be much appreciated. ps also looking tae pop the question doon there.

    I disagree!

I do although expect the mibs to play there hun part, however, as long as we are not complacent and fully focused on the next game only, we will triumph!

  5. Lads i apoligise i ain’t going to bring referees into this, I’m going to enjoy the moment and we’ll deal with them if the time comes which I’m sure it will.

I thought Big FF and Scott Brown were immense yesterday and how many times has young Forrest pulled us out a hole, Commons looked good again and the only negative is playing big Sammy up front, he’s better out left.

Hearing that Celik is a left winger, as is Ortiz, as is Bedoya, as is Wylde not to mention that Wallace has been playing at left mid recently,

sounds like a shambles on the coaching and scouting front at ibrokes.

    That IF you mentioned?

I think that we should quietly plant the seeds of a mass meet up at Celtic Park the day after.

A celebration. A Green Day if you will…

  8. Interesting weekend all round that demands answers to a few questions..

Why did Jeff Winters cruise liner have no internet access?

    Why the fuss about Jelavic?

Who told Wenger that bringing on Arshavin was a good idea ?

Who advised Liverpools owners that MON was not a big enough name for their club?

Why are windfarms going out of business in West of Scotland, it has blown a gale for 4 weeks.

I think we should be told.

  9. Highights up on BBC website.

Paul Mitchell commentator- McGowan looked just onside at his big chance in 2nd half. Aye right.

Also, Rogne’s goal, at no time during the move was he closer to the goalline that any Saints player- never mind when the ball was played- a truly abysmal decision by an extremely incompetent assistant.

I take your point , but my fear is that the tax avoiders will get all the help going when / if they need it. Whether it be penalties , time added on , players not being booked/sent off when they should be . All these and more will come their way .

  12. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

hello, Neil back………Arsenal game was boring, eh………..

Wonder if the LL will give Celtic’s 19 point (wonder) winback the same prominance as they afforded them being 15 ahead…….He He ……!!!!!

Was really pleased Bangura has retained Neil’s confidence, and even more pleased jellyfish hasn’t been sold yet……..we can’t ‘lose’ here….if they don’t sell him, tjey won’t be able to pay the wages ……..if they do sell him, they won’t have time to buy a replacement (nor do they intend to) ………

Even if they take 8 points off Hearts for not paying the wages on time, they will find SOME excuse for not doing this to their favoured team………can’t wait to hear that one……(their scouring of the world to find an example which they could use to justify relegating Livi etc, but not rankers, is absolutely hilarious…!!!

Agreed with that post, when Neil speaks he speaks sense and you could listen to his interviews all day.

  14. Lads do you not think we should get the dons fans onside regarding voting newco back in, after all the sheep hate them and they can put pressure on their board.

the huns needed another left winger

as Beyboya and Ortiz are crap ..Wylde is moderate and Wallace is a left back

lets hope Celik is as good as the others

Went to Seville last year with the family ….exercising a ghost on my part :-)

Stayed in a Novotel right beside the Sevilla stadium, which was really nice & reasonably priced.

Hotel was about 2 miles from the centre, but there was a bus stop right outside.

I know you will want to go to more traditional places, but there is a wee irish bar next to the cathedral which I think is called Kelly’s. – again recommend it , if you fancy a night of ‘normal ‘ food. Out the back there is a courtyard with a cooler sprinkler system which releases a mist spray every 20 seconds or so . The perfect accompaniment to a beer !

incompetent is about as kind as one can be to Lino Francis Andrews

the number of wrong decisions against CFC considering the few games he has been involved in ….clearly not a CFC fan

in 2003 we stayed in Jerez about an hour south of Sevilla. Lovely place , will go back some day , stayed 3 nights and enjoyed them all , but that might have had something to do with events at the time. Better GTF, starting to sound like Judith Chalmers.

  21. Don’t generally disgaree with Paul’s match reports but I feel our performance yesterday was not as bad is being made out here or in ra papers. Sure, St Mirren had some chances and played quite well but not sure they dominated or had us on the rack as some reports would suggest. Thought the team selection to start was wrong – blowing a gale and we should have had Stokes on from the start playing close to Hooper and with the ball on the deck – some of the link up play on the ground between Hooper, Stokes and Forrest has been great this year and if there was ever a day to play it, that was yesterday.

Nuff said about that linesman – present and previous against us – how he did not flag for Ledley trip by Imrie and how Rogne’s goal was offside, I will never know.

That said, we are rising above the blatant bias and that will annoy them even more.

  22. ….If it walks like a duck and flags ‘offside’ like a duck………..it’s a duck!

(and we all know what happens to ducks…)

  23. Tim Malone Will Tell on

People talk about Paddy McCourt as a ‘luxury’ player – to me that tag applies far more to Ki than Paddy.

Ki looks to me like he lacks heart and the personality to take a game by the scruff of the neck – compare and contrast to Kris Commons for example.

On another topic, the Jeff Winter story is really interesting – worth watching how this unfolds. If they can apply existing law in England to deal with that sort of bile, wonder why Scottish Law was viewed as being inadequate in this area????

  24. For those looking for a great night of sport, try the 2 NFL semi-final games. NewEngland Patriots (yeah!) v Baltimore Ravens in the first game, and San Francisco 49rs v New York Giants in the second.

  25. Aye, BSR, I remember that one well, last few minutes chasing a winner and he penalises Artur for that!

As was pointed out by a poster last night Andrews got 5 decisions wrong yesterday, all easy decisions, all 5 against Celtic.

I said earlier today Andrews is either incompetent or a cheat and Celtic must be making a formal complaint about him.

  26. Just watched the hun highlights on BBC, lovely goal by Aberdeen, crappy deflected one for hun,

New York are a better team than SF, but the rainy conditions in SF will suit the home team’s defence. It’ll be close though.

If it’s anything like last week’s game, it should be a cracker.
