Daunting Celtic

133

Hibs were on a good run of form before capitulating 1-4 to Newco last time out.  Conceding a penalty minutes after taking an early lead, sapped whatever coherence their match plan had. Before this, they took 13 from 15 points.  That successful run came on the heels of a chastening 0-3 home defeat to Hearts.  Hibs appear to be successful against teams below them in the league, not so much on those above.

With only one draw and one defeat in 28 league games, Celtic are a daunting prospect.  Lee Johnson is likely to complete the notable achievement of going an entire season as Hibs manager without getting the sack.  To retain the confidence of club and support, he doesn’t need a result at Celtic Park, but reining in the gap on Hearts, just one place above them, is where he will be judged.

This may be just as well, as I cannot see a weakness in Celtic right now.  They are vastly superior to tomorrow’s opponents and have no hint of complacency.  Same as usual, please, Celtic.

  1. David 66,

Why is Glasgow so different from everywhere else in the world.

We have St Patrick’s day parades in Belfast, Derry, Lisburn, Strabane, Dungannon etc etc.

Why is Glasgow so different? Our unseen Orange hand is no more powerful than the places mentioned above.

The usual reasoning does not stand scrutiny anymore.

Accepting such Ignorance because its always happened in 2023 is not acceptable.

It is frankly a disgrace and an embarrassment to our city.

    Everything must be questioned.

The Scottish establishment is unravelling and imploding daily. There will hopefully be a fresh broom with more transparency honesty and integrity. The old guard of Scottish rulership of all political persuasions are toast.

Whoever emerges on top must be asked such questions and we must keep asking until we receive correct answers.

Seemingly St Patrick was actually born in Scotland. The Scottish/ Irish connection should be welcomed and celebrated.

Not hidden away by uneducated dinosaurs.

    Cheers and HH.

    Genuine question.

Why can’t Irish organisations and Scots/Irish people in Scotland organise an annual St Patrick’s Day parade in Glasgow? Who/what is stopping them?

Is it easier to simply sit on our arses and play the victim card and blame everyone else rather than make the effort to organise a parade?

City parades throughout the world were initiated by Irish people and Irish descendants and got so big that the City councils took over the organisation.

    Where there’s a will there’s a way.

  4. Tom McLaughlin,

What is stopping them is the political establishment. Glasgow City Council in particular.

This has been the case for many years. Check it out please.

Political figures like Jim Sheridan ( Labour ) and many others across the political spectrum have stuck their oar in against a St Patrick’s day parade in our city.

Do these parades not go down secure routes??

maybe we could have one in the Garngad

  7. The forelock tugging with regards to St Patrick’s day is booked inducing. If you want a parade get organised and make it happen.

    It’s not that difficult.

  8. I’m in valencia for the fallas at the moment there were plenty of tourists and locals wearing the green yesterday.

  9. ROBERTTRESSELL on 18TH MARCH 2023 9:02 AM

Do people still sell spare tickets at the ground?

They do,RT but it is a bit hit or miss.

I sometimes see one or two just before you turn into the Celtic Way.

Best of luck for your friend.

  10. “TOM MCLAUGHLIN on 18TH MARCH 2023 10:02 AM

Strongly fancy a Hibs hammering today.

    5-0 to the Celtic.”

That`s my selection on SFTB`s Superbru . Have we damned it now? :-)))

  11. Re St Patrick`s Day parade in Glasgow.

Does Belfast have a more obvious Catholic/Protestant divide therby allowing for the `feuding` parties to be well away from one another?

I think it`s sad that Glasgow`s authorities have to consider the very likely possibility of violence but consider it they must so their decision not to have such a parade is understandable but relects badly on Glasgow.

Then again, they do allow Orange Walks so my point falls !!

  12. RT

    You are welcome.

Just leaving Arbroath now for my visit to Paradise.

    Cheerio for now.

  13. Another question – when’s the last time the zombies played after us? If it is a TV scheduling thing then it can only be downtown sheer luck. But like all the penalty kicks fir and none against, it can give the impression of being more than coincidence after a while.

    Then again, I’m paranoid.

I don’t see them losing today anyway.

  14. I’m not knowledgeable about horse racing at all but recognise that the Gold Cup is a great sporting occasion. On that basis and to make things a bit more interesting I stuck a tenner on Ahoy Senor to win. Things looking good as we got to the business end of the race before – and I’m not going to mince my words here – my horse was violently bundled to the ground. I expressed amazement to a friend watching with me about why that was not a penalty to Rangers.

He assured me not to worry and that the glaring refereeing error would be put right at Motherwell. So it follows that we can expect the words Tav and pen to feature within the next couple of hours.

  15. I thought the cooncil had to give permission for parades. It is now utterly embarassing for Glasgow NOT to have a St Patrick’s Day Parade. I read yesterday that the Grand Master in the North took part in one.

  16. Enjoy your day today Celts

Work for each other and us.

    Hopeful for a win

    Do your best.

Same steps since we left the hall

    HH

Have a friend over from Canada and i hope to cross paths with TomtheThim above me there in the heated chairs.Take care Celts and a win god willing.

Of course they have to give permission, but you can’t give or deny permission for something that nobody has asked for.

  18. Tom McLaughlin,

Of course it’s been asked for. Do you think Glasgow citizens of Irish descent are somehow lazier or thicker that elsewhere.

    Please do some research.

I asked the question at the top of this page. Has anyone tried to organise a parade in Glasgow in recent years?

  20. Greenpinata, he is not banned, he obviously has just decided not to bother anymore, we will all reach that decision sometime down the road.

At this stage apart from matchday, I rarely post, however when the Celts are playing it’s nice to have a bit of contact with fellow Supporters even if it’s impersonal cyber contact rather than just sitting in splendid isolation .
