“Border Patrol have too much influence in the cocaine trade.” Said the drug dealer.
“My parents have too much influence in my life.” Said the spoiled 14-year-old.
“The Screws have too much influence in this prison.” Said the violent prisoner.
“Doctors have too much influence in what I am prescribed.” Said the opioid addict.
“[Peter Lawwell] was wielding far too much influence in Scottish football.” Said David Murray.
Some of us understand that we will not always get to do what we want to do without consequence. Then there is David Murray, the man who hid contracts from HMRC, the SFA and the SPL. Actions which led him to have little choice but to sell Rangers for £1 to a known liquidation specialist, Craig Whyte. What happened to Rangers is on him.
Influence is an odd hill for Murry to hold. What about the influence Murray had, with the media in particular? Tell us, David, how did you exert that influence? Did you ever exert influence at other clubs? If so, how did you get it? Did you ever have influence over other clubs’ bankers?
Does anyone really think the boardrooms of Scottish football clubs are stacked with people, who would pervert their duties to the clubs they run, in order to align with the Celtic chief executive?
Murray was supremely influential in Scottish football before Peter Lawwell joined Celtic; he then more than met his match. Excerpts published from the former Rangers chairman do not mention specifics, but there is only one matter that counted. Peter’s influence stopped Craig Whyte from phoenix-ing Newco straight into the SPL.
They would have been debt free and laughing at us. Celtic, having played by the rules and lived responsibly, would have been thrown into devastating turmoil. Only one of the two clubs was ever going to survive that episode without years’ long trauma.
Any influence Peter brought to bear was earned through respect and clinical analysis, and was exercised honestly. Murray’s comments are just a jealous attack. He screwed up, met his match, his club died and he has no one to blame but himself.
Murray also shifted liability to the tax authorities, “HMRC made us the target.” No, David, Murray Group Holdings tax affairs made Rangers the target. Your failure to make provisions during the years HMRC pursued you, instead spending money to beat Celtic, that’s what made the target so lethal.
And while I’m at it. I was out with two pals recently and one suggested we had been “lucky” to win all these recent trophies, as Newco were a shambles. Far from it. This “luck” was a consequence of the enormous events of 2011 and 2012. I know it and David Murray knows it.

Mornin’ all – Whaur’s aipple?
You got a bit of stick on here yesterday Paul, but well said today.
Genuine favour Paul.
You posted a brilliant article about this guy many years ago … around the time him and his sons were cherry picking the few remaining gems of entire enterprise just as it was about to be liquidated.
Please post a link.
HH bhoys and ghirls,
Holiday time.
Oh! A worthy target today Paul.👍
I haven’t read any excerpts from this book.
I won’t be reading anything his lackies at the DR offer up.
I did read etims take on it this morning.
More than happy to give them my clicks.
“Seemed to me” does a lot of heavy lifting.
Just on the right side of libel.
As for Celtic and Pedro?
I expect Peter Lawwell to utter not a single word in response.
Celtic might put out a short statement but I doubt it.
While this ridiculous circus continues to consume and titillate morons from all directions?
We’ll quietly, unsexily get on with winning.
Let me guess the title of this autobiography…..
“The Charlatan of Charlotte Square”
No?
“ For every fiver Celtic spend, we’ll spend a tenner”
Irony CSC
Why is murray being discussed?
He’s hid in his bunker since he caused their demise, kept his knighthood and repaid not a single dime of what he conned out of banks (our banks, remember), punters and businesses.
A charlatan in charlatan’s clothing.
Or, as you may prefer, a fuckin Tory, hun chancer.
Get him back in his box!
Oh, and by the way, the victors write the history not the losers.

🎶No income tax just EBT’s 🎶
Lovely photo of wee £1 Davie on the BBC (who turned up the succulence in their fanboy article to off the scale) looking like a wee lost librarian looking for love in a library that only stocks Mills and Boom (went Rangers 1872) stories.
Murray has books to sell and you sensed a dig at Celtic on some level was going to be in his book. Lawwell is the man who Murray needed to be and should have been for Rangers, fiscally responsible, paying taxes and buildin the clubs commerical deals and revences all done responsibly and sustainably. Its true that had a Lawwell led Celtic simply acquiesced and allowed Rangers 2012 back into the SPFL top flight then it would have been disasterous for Celtic in many ways and they would have simlpy have gotten away with their EBT-induced financial collapse with not footballing consequences . Yes i recalll the occassional remark from Lawwell at AGMS etc, but that’s about it in terms of any commentary from Peter Lawwell. This remark from Murray is a bitter swipe at a man who did things by the book, and to Deflect from his own personal guilt at Punting his Club for a Quid to a Spiv and a Scheister. Murray could have taken the dignified role and put the blame all on himself, but no he has to look for alibis and mitigations. Murray hasnt learned anything

Oh, and by the way, the victors write the history not the losers.
I like it.
Wow, there’s a blast from the past – Rangers! Hard to comprehend that it’s 13 years since they disappeared from our game.
As I w rot e. this morning:
“Is his book called ‘Memoirs of a Charlatan’?
It sums up the current zeitgeist perfectly – we live in a golden age of grift where grifters get to publish books in an attempt to rewrite history instead of being held to account”.
There you go Mrs Facepainter…….. that shyster Lawwell ‘s the one that did you over .
Murray couldn’t get out of dodge quick enough ,so left the keys with the first fellow dodgy dealer to come along with a nice, shiny pound .
Typical narcissist behaviour to try to rewrite history absolving himself of all blame .

I remember some years back someone on here shared a story about a tradesman who did work for murray.
There was a disagreement about payment I think , the tradesman withdrew his services and then murray set about destroying the tradesman, making sure none of his connections used him.
I’m sure the media grilled him regarding EBTs, huge losses to publicly owned banks and all the creditors he left high and dry. I’m also sure that his knighthood will be getting withdrawn any day now. Just sitting here waiting on my meds 😂
Yes, great credit to Peter Lawwell who somehow managed to Teflon Coat Celtic from the huge turmoil that hit Rangers.
They would have loved to pull us down into an Old Firm cesspit.
We didn’t need no stinking Rangers…

“For every £5 Celtic give in tax we’ll withhold a tenner”
David Murray and his beloved SMSM could utterly shame Lawwell and Celtic fans for their sleekit, krankie trained, cowardice after Sevco got promoted in 2016 by stating that:
DAVID MURRAY:
“WE ALL KNEW IN OUR HEARTS THAT WHEN THE COMPANY RUNNING RANGERS FC DIED IN IN 2012, THAT RANGERS FC WOULD NEVER DIE. LIQUIDATION DIDN’T MEAN THAT THE CONCEPT OF RANGERS FC DIED, AS WE ALL KNOW THAT WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN.
EVEN OUR GREATEST AND BITTER RIVALS SAW RANGERS IN THE LEAGUE AGAIN IN 2016, AND THE RANGERS FANS SHOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL TO THE VERY ASTUTE CELTIC FC CEO, PETER LAWWELL, AND OF COURSE TO THE CELTIC FAN BASE FOR RECOGNISING REALITY IN 2016, THAT RANGERS DYING IS FOR SCHOOL PLAYGROUND EXCHANGES, AND WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT NOW.
SO, WHEN CELTIC KEPT RANGERS OLD £49 TICKET PRICES IN 2016, OUR WORRY WAS THAT CELTIC FANS WOULD SHOW SOME RESISTANCE TO THAT, BUT THEY ARE GROWN UPS JUST LIKE THEIR VERY CLEVER CEO.
CELTIC AND RANGERS CLUBS AND FANS WILL ALWAYS BE THE OLD FIRM, WITH THAT UNIQUE RIVALRY, AND CELTIC FANS SHOWED THEIR MATURITY BY BACKING PETER LAWWELL’S AGREEMENT TO PUT RANGERS 2012 TICKET PRICES TO THE CELTIC FAN BASE FOR THEIR IBROX TICKETS IN DECEMBER 2016.
CELTIC FANS MOVED ON AND WE SHOULD ALL FOLLOW FOLLOW THEIR LEAD, THEY TRULY ARE A REMARKABLE SET OF FANS.”
And Timdumb’s response would be:
“NAW WE DIDNY PAY RANGERS £49 TICKET PRICE – WE PAID SEVCO’S £49 TICKET PRICE. SUMDY BAN THIS TROLL!”
Who would win the Trolls or the Timdumb Liars?

C40me – yip.
And if I was fully qualified to do his job (I’m not) and was offered double his remuneration?
I’d pass in a heartbeat.
Thank you Mr Postman for delivering my poncho for later Belahouston Park for Simple Minds gig.

Bada Bing @ 1:10pm – cheers.
Just went on to Celtic Twitter for a look.
Tantalisingly close to a million followers BTW
Came across the new 3rd strip.
LONG time since I bought a third strip top of any kind.
This one looks great. I might just buy it.
Excellent leader today.
I expunged Murray from my mind years ago but up he pops, like a Jack-in-the-Box, with some predictable themes :
– I am such a clever dick.
– Lawwell is the devil incarnate
– Big Connery was a bluenose.
In other news, Chuck Negron signs. Joy to the Sellik support.
The brass neck of it. What next, Fred Goodwin seeks sympathy from RBoS account holders?
This gives me rare warm and fuzzy feeling for Pistol.
Key point here is that it would have been us in the wilderness had it gone the other way. The self-recrimination would’ve been cataclysmic.
YORKBHOY
That one’s been rewritten so many times.
The man that took a quid, for liquidation, the stuff writes itself.
Murray killed RFC.
As for Peter Lawwell making sure they didn’t phoenix straight into the top tier, well I think he may have been influenced by the thousands of fans who had refused to renew their season tickets. I believe that before the vote to get the new club to start in Division three only ten thousand had renewed and that was after the deadline renewal date had passed.
That same scenario was played out at most top league clubs. The message from the fans was simple: you can have the new club in the top tier with your own stadia empty or you can enforce good governance. You can’t have both.
Personally, I would never have set foot in a Scottish football stadium again if the new club had been allowed straight into the top flight and I believe tens of thousands of fans from every club all over the country felt the same.
It was bad enough that no meaningful sanctions were levied against RFC or that no ill gained honours were removed, but to have the new club then foisted on football fans the length and bridth of the country would have been a step too far.
Even my love for football and Celtic has its limits.
Highlights of this literary tome:
‘McCoist was at the helm as Manager Craig Whyte plunged the operating company into a catastrophic administration and liquidation’.
Operating company. :)
Murray has accepted that his Ibrox legacy has been tarnished by the events which surrounded his sale of the club, but insists that the trophies won during his period at the helm were not tainted by the use of EBTs, denying that the scheme allowed the club to gain an unfair financial advantage.
Really?
ON Peter Lawell:
He (murray) added: “With very few influential or credible figures working to Rangers’ benefit, he was a pivotal figure.”
Oh didums….
Only 8:40 am here in Ottawa but my day is already complete.
Weeron
I was told that David Murray used to talk about Celtic more than he spoke about his own team. Wanted any titbit he could on what we were doing.
I see he hasn’t changed.
Peter Law well done his job very well.
