Day of reckoning draws close for Rangers

858

Companies have a statutory duty to produce financial reports in line with commitments made to shareholders.  The failure of Rangers to fulfil those commitments was put down to a lack of clarity over the future outcome of the on-going tribunal with HM Revenue and Customs.  As a consequence of this failure, trading in Rangers shares have been suspended by the Plus Stock Exchange.

The Plus Stock Exchange also told Rangers broadcast partner, STV, they were “currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which Craig Whyte’s seven year disqualification from acting as a director in 2000 were not disclosed at the time of his appointment to the board of Rangers FC on May 6, 2011”.

Rangers today suggested there was “little, if any, tangible benefit for the club to be a listed company”.  This may be true but the benefit of a listing is heavily weighted towards shareholders and creditors, who should have received structured financial information in a timely manner.  Shareholders have also been denied the opportunity to attend an Annual General Meeting, which, in line with stock exchange rules, should have been held before 31 December 2011.

Many of you have watched Rangers speculate wildly for over two decades with the feeling that they would crash and burn.  This has been a painful period for those who follow clubs who stick to budget, unprepared to take a seat at the roulette table.  The day of reckoning draws closer.

  5. CELTIC can land new strike target Hamdi Salihi for a cut-price £500,000 – after Rapid Vienna coach Peter Schoettel confirmed the Albanian ace is set to leave this month.

The 27-year-old has rocketed into the reckoning for a move to Parkhead after manager Neil Lennon admitted an interest.

Salihi, who has filled the scoring void left by Nikica Jelavic following his £4million move to Rangers 18 months ago, is on his way out of the Austrian club after failing to agree a contract extension.

And Rapid are willing to accept a fee of just £500,000 as opposed to seeing Salihi quit for nothing in the summer.

Coach Schoettel has resigned himself to Salihi, who has netted 44 goals in 70 appearances, leaving if the club’s valuation is met. He said: “Rapid are open to having transfer talks over Hamdi. If there is a matching offer he can go.”

Salihi was a star under former boss Peter Pacult but the poacher has struggled to adapt to Schoettel’s new counter-attacking system.

And Lennon could now make a swoop. The Celtic boss said: “He is a player we have known about from the Jelavic days. He might be an option.”

English sides are also looking at the striker but Salihi insists he will be selective when it comes to choosing a new club.

He said: “I would be interested in a team with a big name who fits my style.”

QPR ace Jay Bothroyd is another option for Celtic but the sacking of manager Neil Warnock may see the Loftus Road fringe players offered a fresh chance.

Lennon will also spend this week looking at 20-year-old Nigerian winger Rabiu Ibrahim in a Lennoxtown trial.

The striker has an impressive one-in-three record for his country having started his career at his home town club KS Vllaznia Shkoder. In 2004, Salihi moved to Panionios in Greece before returning to his homeland to join KF Tirana and onto a spell at SV Reid in Austria.

Two-and-a-half years ago, he joined Rapid, but the relationship is coming to and an Glasgow a possible next port of call.

Appeal for a witness to an incident in Kinloch Street after the Aberdeen game 23 October 2011Witness appeal

On 23 October 2011 after the game against Aberdeen there was an incident in Kinloch Street when a disabled Celtic supporter and his son were arrested by mounted police officers for allegedly shouting abuse at the Aberdeen fans while leaving the stadium. During his arrest the man was being held by the neck by a male officer mounted on a horse. When he was released to be grabbed by other officers on foot, the officer knocked the man’s glasses off. The man’s teenage son attempted to help his father and was also arrested. His younger son (13) was crying and in distress and during that time a female officer screamed in his face and threatened him with arrest. The child was subsequently abandoned outside the park and a steward had to wait with him till his mother could be contacted to come and collect him.

During the incident a female Celtic supporter asked the mounted officer, who was holding the man, for his number as she appeared to be objecting to the way the man was being treated. He apparently did not reply to her and left the scene shortly thereafter. This lady, who was in the 40-60 age group could be a helpful witness as the man and his son have now been charged with breach of the peace.

If you are this lady or you know her (you may have heard her speak about the incident) can you please contact the Celtic Trust via our website or contact Fans Against Criminalisation at fansagainstcriminalisation@gmail.com .

Could all fan websites or blogs please pass on this appeal.

Can’t see any consistent 20+ strikers in your list apart from Henrik

I said before Henrik was one in a million

Anytime Celtic Lose the league over last 4 year is because we have not had 20+ strikers

Most if the strikers we have bought over last 4 years have been failures and because of that Huns have won titles

Have you been watching Celtic?? Have you noticed that Huns won the league

  14. Starry plough my logic is we can’t afford 5 or 6m

So we end up with another cheap striking option

Which!!!! Have not worked for us in last 4 years

Kenny miller left Huns in Jan. He was still above hooper and stokes at end if season

Not good enough. Not enough goals, we need a better option

So selling hopper gives us a better option

  15. That appeal for witnesses……

Doesn’t sound like anything at all unusual coming from the usual suspects……..You wouldn’t really need specifics to pin the tail on the sectarian donkey.

Just another incident in a multitude of crimes over the last 130 odd years.

But what is different is the times we live in now, especially given the trumped up “Offensive Behaviour” routine.

I expect many, many such ‘show trials’ where old scores are evened up scrupulously.

    All part of the lazy

I would certainly keep Stokes and Hooper.

Rhodes would bring out the best in them, and the increased competition for starting places in an all-conquering team would be exactly the stimulus they need.

When we start winning by cricket scores,we can bring on our youngsters in the latter stages of matches..

    Believe me…Rhodes is the Key..

Could be as important to us now as Henrik was in the Naughties..

  17. Me? A lazy reader? Never o:-)

I am sure that the gist of most of the posts was that Traynor was offski. Quite obviously, he is still there. That is my point.

Incidentally, whilst agreeing with the sentiment of an earlier post of yours, I would tend towards ” I`m not going to class Bangura at all until etc”

    Instead of:

“I’m not going to class Bangura as a flop until he gets a run in the team.”

  18. We need a 6ft plus target man to compliement our strikers, not someone who is similar instyle to Stokes or Hooper unless they were far far better than them!

Selling a current SPL striker to fund the transfer of a third division striker? The boy Rhodes might be on a hot streak but is as yet unproven at a decent level.

Agreed we need a quality striker as we are one injury away from disaster. We have a diamond in Gary Hooper, I believe he will get better and better.

It seems now that Diawara has gone off the radar any word on that?

  20. Singingdetective. I have seen a lot of clips of Rhodes

Scores goals with head and feet with ease

Without any incoming funds we stick with hooper and stokes

So no consistent goalscorer then, we can only play 2 strikers at a time

I don’t think stokes hooper combination produces goals consistently

Where would you get the funds for Rhodes

Of course we could ask Peter lawell for the 5m of aidens money that he stuck in bank last year

But you and I know that won’t happen

We need to sell to buy

Most of the posts were saying he was for the offski. ie negotiating terms with his employers and serving notice before being shown the door. Why he’s not on gardening leave I don’t know and if this is true or not I also don’t know. So it could very well be lazy journalism on the part of some of the contributors. Time will tell.

As for Bangurs he appears to have done well in bounce matches after a run in the team but as he hasn’t had a run in the first team then its hard to have an opinion on him. But again time will tell.

  26. Starry. I see Where you are coming from regarding rhodes for hooper

But what do we do we need a goalscorer who would be 1st in the teamsheet

We don’t have one at this time

Baba is well off our radar as the club won’t go into debt to pay 6m for a striker

Even if we sell someone for 6m, PL would not sanction that amount:(

He seems to sanction Lots of 1 to 2m duds

I think you’re setting the bar too low. We need a +30 goal striker.

+20 goal strikers are common or garden. We really don’t need yet another one.

Suggest we pump the entire summer budget on the most talented striker we can find.

DBBIA, who knows a thing or two about a Striker, commented last season when I suggested we needed a big goalscorer, that what we needed infact was a scorer of big goals. The type of guy who can manufacture a chance from nothing in a tight game against top opponents.

Our current lot will tuck away a far proportion of the chances the team creates, but ultimately all are short of one of the key attributes of pace, technique, physique and imagination. If Hooper was 6’3″… If Stokes could run fast… If Bangura could play football…

As you say, enough with the Murphys and the Killens. Dime a dozen. Let’s get a Hero.

I’ll say again, Hooper was in my list. He scored 20 league goals last season.

So what is your next “Aye but”?

Is it a 21 goal a season striker now?

Your arguement is very simplistic and according to your criteria wrong.

“Have you seen that the huns won the league?”

Have you seen where the Huns are (or is it were) now?

Where’s Aiden’s money? You are a parody of football fan.

  31. “Sell Hooper for 3m and offer 5m for Rhodes”

“I have seen a lot of clips of Rhodes”

So from your YouTube scouting Jordan Rhodes, who has played 100 times for Huddersfield, never played in Europe, never tested never mind scored against Rangers is worth 40% more than Gary Hooper.

    Jesus wept.

  32. Magnus. ?? Totally agree with singing detective? Would love to know where get 5m from to change things

Last year hooper 20 goals. Stokes 15.

This season hooper 11 goals, stokes 9
