de Vries, defending corners, lessons from Darnell

478

With Logan Bailly out injured, Celtic are down to two keepers, Craig Gordon (33) and Leo Fasan (22).  That’s insufficient for the months ahead, which will see the club play eight European games, the visit of our perennial league rivals, Aberdeen later this month, as well as seeing the League Cup come to a conclusion.

So the reasoning behind Dorus de Vries (35) pitching up for a medial at Ross Hall this morning is clear.  What remains to be seen, is whether Brendan Rodgers reckons the Dutchman, whom he won promotion with at Swansea, is a safer pair of hands than Craig Gordon.

de Vries won Notting Forest supporters’ Player of the Year last season, a significant accolade for a keeper, so Stevie Woods can look forward to working with a genuine contender for first choice.

As we witnessed even against an outclassed Motherwell on Wednesday, defending corner kicks remains a problem for Celtic, which will again cost us dearly in Europe if the issue is not resolved.  How Dorus matches up in this area may well determine who gets the nod.

A word on Darnell Fisher.  He has the talent to perform more than adequately for Alan Stubbs at Rotherham, but he was judged not to have sufficient enthusiasm for getting back to do his day job, after venturing forward to assist attacks, which finished him at Celtic.

In this respect he didn’t fit the Ronny model, but the next generation of young full backs have come through having learned a lesson.

  1. Dylan’s album Slow Train Coming had David “Pick” Withers on drums, after Dylan heard him play with Dire Straits.

HD video of a fine song written and sung by the Glasgow born man who went to Bearsden Primary School.

Still think I can hear the Scottish in his accent….

Very interesting. It would seem from an outsiders perspective that it is a very difficult case to win fro TRFC. They would have to prove that both parties deliberately acted in such a way as to lump TRFC with a bad deal and that it doesn’t come under standard freedom to contract. Not easy. Unless King is relying on his little grubby swag bag that John James believes he procured from Charlotte Fakes.

So have I got this right.

A owns a business and enters into a contract with B which involves supplying goods or services.

Then A sells the business to C.

Now C is suing A and B because the contract agreed by A and B is detrimental to C.

Should C not have thrashed all that out before he bought from A. ??

    Bit bonkers maybe

Kingco appear to be arguing that the rights were sold below the market rates.

What were the rates for rights to a new club, who hadn’t a penny to their name and no banking or credit facility?

Beggars can’t be choosers springs to mind.

Must say I was paying little or no attention to this year’s Olympics but am really chuffed about this medal, well done to the boys & up the Rebel County.

That may well be what king is arguing. .

But surely it’s either none of his business ( its a contract to which he wasn’t a party) or when he bought from greene he should have been aware of these agreements.

It that case his argument is with greene alone and not Ashley.

He could I suppose sue his own legal advisers for not carrying out due diligence. ..but suing Ashley ? ( Because Ashley got himself a sweet deal from greene? )

I can’t see why it would even get to court

Green didn’t own Sevco (remember the IPO). He didn’t sell it to King. King doesn’t own Sevco.

Green and then King were directors of Sevco, and as such have a duty to get as good a deal as possible for Sevco shareholders.

If Green agreed a deal which can be proven in court to be dodgy the King has a duty to get it set aside for the sake of the shareholders.

  15. The glibster is counting on the jaundiced eye of Scottish justice.

Would not be the first time it has worked.

Looks like an attempt to get some much needed cash so won’t be surprised if he is successful.

But can King prove that it was deliberately undervalued and that freedom to contract does not apply,

    ——————————————————————————-

To do so I’d guess he’d need to present evidence that there was some kind of conspiracy or collusion among the parties involved?

  18. Were they not skint, had no credit line from a bank, had spent the proceeds of the IPO on McCoist Elbows and multiple others on the journey from the fourth division so had to hive off everything to keep the lights on? Now they dont fancy that , tough I say, plenty others have to face the consequences of a lifestyle that they could not afford. Everyone has to apart from a notable knight of the realm.

    No problem.

I would fully expect though that when Ashley was organising (What most certainly is a very bad deal for Sevco) that he expected a challenge some time down the line and as a result the contract will be watertight, which I’m sure will be upheld by Scottish Judges.

(Scottish judges are on the LEVEL and see things fair and SQUARE).

    I honestly didn’t realize that.

Just stumbled upon that YouTube of BrosinArms.

  21. So that’s 5 new players this window, with one more to come in, going by what Brendan said on Wednesday.

Some supporters want a holding midfielder, others would prefer a striker.

I think we are well off for strikers, with Ciftci and Aitchison as backup to Griffiths and Dembele.

We also have a good number of midfielders, although more specifically, a good holding midfielder would serve us very well.

If Brendan is prepared to spend another few million on a holding midfielder, I don’t expect a deal to be completed until later in the window, and perhaps even on the final day.

Brendan has proved that it is worth waiting for the right target, so if we have to wait again, fair enough.
