Dead rubber day

378

Celtic arrive in Prague tomorrow for a game many of us consider a dead rubber.  The thumping Sparta inflected at Celtic Park still smarts and almost certainly ended the competitive element of our Europa League campaign.  The most we can hope for is a cohesive performance and an injury and illness free trip.  A defeat, even a heavy defeat, will not resonate as much as the draw at Easter Road.

For me, the pace quickens at the weekend, when your clean sheet domestic record goes on the line for the 36th consecutive time.  We can only hope the week will be used productively.

Stop making a complete area of yourself, trying to noise up Big Jimmy because you think you have a couple of handers.Pathetic.

  2. No Celtic manager or player should get abuse.

One saving grace……………no fans at the games.

It was now or never/until it’s too late and it looks like the latter.

Bad decision IMHO, but we’ll know for sure by Jan 2nd.

Thursday will be interesting: nothing less than a convincing win and the team running through brick walls for the manager will do to convince me there’s a chance of turning things around.

If they were liquidated, and are therefore a new club, why haven’t Celtic PLC stipulated this through their ticket prices?

And why have Celtic supporter’s resumed their purchase of these ticket’s, as though it was the same club?

    Why Arbroath?

Could be worse could be a Vale supporter as well. Losing to a bottom 4 side – tough in the Gene household.

My worry is that in the last couple of games against sevco we have played with a fear . We could win all our games up to the 2nd Jan but if we don’t go into that game believing and playing like we are the better team , we are toast.

Getting the Sevco fear out of the players heads and hearts is going to be one monumental task . I’m not sure that Lenny can do it.

  9. im off now, just to say i never wanted any confrontation with big jimmy,he was the one that singled me out although i only post on here rarely, but im the chump and he named me ,so im entitled to hit back and any time he names me in future i will give it back in spades, TO BIG JIMMY if you give me abuse i will give it back, if you want to bury the hatchet im all for that its up to you.,H,H,

  10. BATEEN BHOY @ 7:33 PM,

It wasn’t so much of disputing the fact if we had won rather than lost a “six pointer” things would have been different.

What I was disputing was the merits of that argument as it affects us now. If we had dominated the game and they had won on a last minute dodgy Travenier Pen, well of course your point would have merit.

Buts that’s not what happened was it? In fact what we saw was the most woeful Celtic display most of us could recall in a Glasgow Derby.

    That’s the fact.

Arguably Rangers have improved since then, they certainly have grown in confidence. We have certainly got worse and dropped points, so a one game reverse doesn’t tell the picture… imo, not even close.

So the reality is, we have to get better, and better by some margin (nine points in fact), than a very good Rangers side and we have to do it quickly.

We need to be asking ourselves how we do that!? In fact, if we do, do that we will be a very good side and I for one will be a very happy bhoy – as you say, we aren’t that far off, we have some very good players.

One of the best player interviews I’ve seen in a while was Scott Sinclair’s interview before the Scottish Cup Final when Lenny returned. He had already been marginalised by Lenny but he was so positive and spoke of the solid belief and winning mentality in the squad, it ouzed out of those players and was a huge asset for us.

Now that has gone, and when CQN lead articles are managing expectations of Celtic a teir 1 Europa Club coming last in their group, it means things ain’t changing fast. We should be very concerned.

Only Celtic supporter’s have the, season ticket NON renewal power to change things, but they won’t, either because their too cowardly, or too lazy to do so.

  13. Am I the only one who thinks this has been the lowest point CQN has seen in its history?

People coming on and having a pop at our manager totally inappropriately. And I am in favour of a parting of the ways.

People coming on and having a pop at Paul67. If you don’t agree with him, set up your own blog or, at least, be civil.

No you’re not alone – it’s been a disappointing few days with the tone of some comments. I too think it’s time for a change.

I very much doubt that Big Jimmy thinks he has the support of all on CQN. He just says it as he sees.

  17. I tooo despair.

The attacks on manager, players and staff have gone beyond normal concerns. They are personal, targeted, often disgusting.

Any comment on this is met with your in the clique type rhetoric, and then more abuse of the “i can say what i want variety”.

I tell you, none on here would say it directly to Neil or John,

It seems that the latest initiative from Holyrood confirms that they are indeed targeting support for the bunch of absolute fan*ies who run things down Ibrox way!

    Questions need to be asked.

I wasn’t for JF at all but some comments I read on here made me realise I was being unfair on the kid and he was indeed being asked to do too much.

I think on their day and in the right team with the right tactics that McGregor, Christie, Laxalt can add controlled bite. They are nobody’s fools.

  23. O’NEILL-CELT @ 8:40 PM,

Well that’s the truth and it has certainly been the case until now.

I’m sure you have a greater feel for where the Celtic support are at rather than I. For instance many Celtic blogs and social media are divided about Lenny. All of my Celtic friends want Lenny gone and most are very angry about it.

Yes as I said in my response to Beeten Bhoy, we need a radical change very quickly.

Lenny aside, this Century we have had two excellent managers and a good manager. Our good manager won us three in a row but started off very slowly, woefully in fact. The excellent managers made an almost immediate impact… the demolition derby and invincible season come to mind.

That suggests we will need a manager of the stature of MO’N twenty seasons ago or the current Brendan Rodgers to make that impact.

There is only one man involved at Celtic that can make that happen, it was the man who gave those fellahs the job.

Now, unlike most of his businesses he seems to run Celtic on a whim, so it’s always possible.

Yet my feeling is; with Covid uncertainty and the huge losses that would be incurred in making that happen, tied with the mood music of CQN, that this would be a whim too far…

Yet we live in hope. If DD stirs the ten is not lost.

But to the heart of the matter; if DD doesn’t respond, Lenny can’t turn things round, Big Pedro is powerless to do anything and let’s face it, he’s been backed to the hilt – Rangers get their “55”, now how do the Celtic support react??

Do they start asking questions? Do they discover the Celtic Board have been complicate in Rangers reincarnation, does the penny drop that we down-sized to make the “old firm competitive”, in other words do they wake up and smell the coffee.

If so, there could be a reaction, and as a wiser man than I once said… a Timmy reaction is quite a f….. thing

    Hail Hail

From the first time I set eyes on Bolingoli I was concerned with his lack of a football brain.

    Our scouts need shot .

The money we waste season after season is utterly shameful.

don’t forget that after we signed him, it wasn’t long identified as a “problem position” – a replacement for Boli was brought in for roughly the same money who now can’t get in the team.

£6m worth of left-backs who aren’t playing for us.
