Dead rubber day

378

Celtic arrive in Prague tomorrow for a game many of us consider a dead rubber.  The thumping Sparta inflected at Celtic Park still smarts and almost certainly ended the competitive element of our Europa League campaign.  The most we can hope for is a cohesive performance and an injury and illness free trip.  A defeat, even a heavy defeat, will not resonate as much as the draw at Easter Road.

For me, the pace quickens at the weekend, when your clean sheet domestic record goes on the line for the 36th consecutive time.  We can only hope the week will be used productively.

  1. Absolutely no idea why some suggest Ntcham to get into our team

He has given up the ghost, is not interested, is one of the lazy mentioned

And more importantly really mourned as one of those who does not want to be with us

Not for me, and I used to be fan

  2. From VFR……earlier.

    …………………………………………

We may be 11 points behind but we have 6 we can collect with our games in hand. We have the opportunity in December to win our 12th domestic trophy and really lift the club.

What we need to do now is start winning starting on Thursday. All we can hope for is a credible performance? I’ll happily accept the 3 points even with a mediocre performance because winning is a habit that we have got out of. Winning all of our domestic games in December will start to bring that winners mentality to the Club and we need to be in good form going to Snake Mountain in January. We need to be ready to pounce when their form dips – and it will at some point – because in reality they are potentially only 5 points ahead and beating them in January will narrow that to 2 points assuming they win all their games.

So let’s cut the defeatist mentality and get back behind the team because at the moment the SMSM and huns are feeding off the implosion of our support. Let’s stop giving them the oxygen!

Leadership of our club is moribund at every level from the Boardroom to the dugout to the pitch.

    Lenny is done. (Sorry)

    Broony is done. (Sorry)

    Lawwell is done. (Not sorry)

  4. Yes Bankiebhoy, great seeing VFR post again, yet you seem to have a C&P issue with his post.

    Here it is in full…

    VFR @ 2:54 PM,

Today epitomises the reason I very rarely post on here any longer. A leader article waving the white flag and telling us the game’s a-bogey with 9 points to play for.

This is then followed by various posters saying the league is gone in November! We may be 11 points behind but we have 6 we can collect with our games in hand. We have the opportunity in December to win our 12th domestic trophy and really lift the club.

Yeah, it seems to me at least, that our best manager’s have succeeded in spite of, overarching interference.

    Jock Stein

    Billy McNeill

    David Hay

    Wim Jansen

    Martin O’Neill

    Neil Lennon(the first time)

    Brendan Rodgers

But, ach, the trophy haul has been superb, probably, only because our resources are more than, probably, the rest of the league put together.

So, what happens IF, 10 in a row comes a cropper?

    Who do we blame?

We can’t blame the board for going along with the Rangers lie, when we propped the board up, whilst they colluded with the Rangers lie, ticket pricing proves that.

    What a mess.

  6. an tearmann

And but for injury would surely have graced the World Cup in Germany that same year.

  7. O’NEILL-CELT @ 10:42 PM,

Yes, being duped!! Is hardly a good excuse for the Celtic support, yet no doubts they have been.

And it is true, the good Managers often had to succeed with the Boards support, resouces wise.

That said, we can’t say Lenny hasn’t been supported this time round – think the Owner didn’t want any fingers pointed at him if there is failure this season.

As you say, what a mess.

    PETERLATCHFORDSBELLY @ 10:27 PM,

A while back I was chastised for saying I looked at Celtic issues as being holistic within the Club…

You demostrate it though, what I would say is this, as it stands…

    Wrong Chairman

    Wrong CEO

    Wrong Manager

    Wrong Coach

    Wrong Captain

You made an interesting point earlier about Damien Duff.

It was said when Brendan Rodgers and his backroom team left, that JK understood the BR set-up, systems and tactics and this approach would remain unaltered.

Obviously Damien Duff was at Chelsea at the same time as BR. He would certainly have had greater insight into that approach than the other coaches.

My feeling is last season we flattered to decieve and that the contributions of Fraser Forster and Eddy were key in making the difference.

Yet you’ve got me seriously thinking that Damien Duff could have been a big loss to us as well.

    Hail Hail

  8. Celtic mac

indeed.in the end the trophy was lifted by the german George Connelly as Tontine once called FB 😊

    hope your good.

    night cqn.

    :-)))

  9. RC

I saw your comment on Toney scoring again tonight

He was on Soccer AM last week and they showed all his goals this season

A few penalties but other than that they were one touch six yard box goals

Loads of support up front and big gaps in defence in that league.

Ajeti would have scored all his goals, even Bayo would have

It is really hard to get that space in our league as a striker, hence so many goals scored by support forwards in several teams

Good striker but he might have struggled here with an even bigger price tag that some of our boys

  11. wow, have to say some of the stuff on here today is premier league madness, and I’m not talking about the football, what is happening to this blog

  12. Soooo..nothing has happened…imagine that…we, the online community that we are, can’t influence the Celtic bored…do we band together with all other online communities along with the CST n CSC’s…to demans what?

If there’s gonna b change…a change of manager to who? A change of the backroom team to who? A change of the bored, to who?

    We love our opinionsCSC

    H.H.

  13. Well tomorrow offers no salvation to Neil Lennon and the Celts.

Win or draw away from home and it wil be “papering over the cracks” and “too little too late”.

Lose and it will be another example of how he was somehow tactically out-thought.

The atmosphere around supporting Celtic is toxic just now and only winning can change that. Surprisingly we are laid at 19/10 by Oddschecker- that’s less than 2/1 so maybe a result is possible or there are a lot more optimistic Yim gamblers out there than I thought.

The draw is laid at 13/5 and Spart are a lengthy 17/11 to win it, despite their 4:1 at CP

  14. There is a 3rd way….win everything…forever

Awesome to see HT contribute with a well considered post…hope you n yours are as well as can be C…

  15. Sparta’s form is worse than ours.

    Sparta Praha 1 – 4 Lille

    Milan 3 – 0 Sparta Praha

    Celtic 1 – 4 Sparta Praha

    Viktoria Plzen 3 – 1 Sparta Praha

    Sparta Praha 2 – 4 České Budějovice

  16. Time to boycott all merchandise for Christmas; hit them where it hurts until lennon , Kennedy and Strachan are removed.

Another tanking from Sparta Prague’s reserves might do the trick.

  17. We limp along til we have a commanding goalkeeper and centre half, until then, forget it.

    Ave Ave

  18. Henry…the way the yank system is broken…Joe will reverse nothing…unless Georgia opens their hearts. And now I see that theirs been a purge of voter rolls…wtf

  19. Neil Lennon doesn’t have to leave, be mutually consented, or whatever.

If I was Neil, for the rest of the season I’d park a bus in front of the goal’s, and one other bus in front of that, and put Soro as the lone striker, and blooter the ball up to him the whole game, and feed off of everything that dropped.

I know Soro isn’t a striker, but need’s must. Oh, and I’d drop Broony for his ‘sleekit’ penalty conceded on Saturday. That penalty bore the hall marks of the, Broony, Commons, cliquey, antics of a previous period in our history. Why do you think that, Brendan Rodgers first act as Celtic manager, was to invite Broony to dinner, and put him in the picture about, what happens to you, if you try to be ‘sleekit’ under BR’s management!

Neil Lennon should wise up to, the sleekitry in his dressing room. If I was Neil, I’d leave my mark on, Broony, Leigh, and Christie. Neil, 85% of the country wants you to fail, who knows what the percentage is, in your own dressing room.🍀

Two Senate seats up for grabs, everything to play for. You’re right all the same, other than your grammar, those rich folks in Georgia sure aint gonna want poor folks votin, no sireee.

  21. Hello again all you young rebels.

    David66

Just catching up with earlier posts and caught yours David.

Everything good here, as QUAD said we’ve had 25 Covid free days now

and nobody in hospital in the State of Victoria, a flying squad of health

people ready to jump into action if a spike appears.

But at massive cost to the economy, 150 billion in debt, but other billions

being pumped into the infrastructure of the country, new bridges, rail

links to Melbourne airport, roads , dams etc. creating work and confidence

that we’ll get our ” best city in the world to live ” title back.

But our kids will pay for it for years to come.

Been very busy with our local soccer club, trying to raise funds in different

ways, just like many others we are skint as well as the football league.

It’s very important to me and many other Celtic supporters that these clubs

survive, it gives us the opportunity to get the Celtic name out there to young

kids who otherwise would never hear it as they get bombarded with EPL. pash

constantly from the t.v and Engerlunders here telling them about their best

    league in the world.

You don’t see or hear nothing about our club now and it worries me when us

all timers are gone how the clubs name will carry on here.

When I first arrived on these shores I could go to the markets, shopping malls

and Celtic tops would be prominent, but not now.

Celtic used to come over every other year and it was an occasion for our kids

here to savour, CSC’s would plan their big meet ups and such was the build up

to the occasion the kids thought it was Christmas or such like.. lol.

Don’t get me wrong I understand peoples argument about the team traveling all

around the globe pre-season, but I’m just stating how it affects the support world

    wide.

Just last night I had the u7’s in a huddle and trying to teach them ..Hail..Hail. was

struggling until the weemhan and his u18’s mates took upon themselves to help

    me out 8-))

Knew it would be a good time for a wee sabbatical and the blog would be poisonous

so no point me adding to the angst.

We all know by now the hun would be on here under one guise or another to wind

us up and cause disharmony with all the turmoil going on at our club.

Regardless of the outcome I’ve personally seen and endured worse times supporting

The Bhoys and this is testing times with questions needing answered, but at no time

is it the right time to call our manager ” a puppet ” shameful stuff.

And isn’t it strange saying that about a manager of a team going for quadruple treble

Take that in, ” a quadruple treble ” it will never be done again.

So a long post and now out fundraising again.

    Big Jimmy

A wee bird told me you were minted, fancy buying a football club? it’s even older than

the huns and got more trophies lol.

Keep on chumpin big fella 8-))))))))

    H.H. Mick

  22. They’re…

MM…saw Victoria is claiming 0 on everything…even false positives…don’t believe the hype ;-))

    Stay safe brother

  23. Good morning CQN from…well the same as yesterday cold and dark Garngad- Groundhog Day.

MM – Good post and keep chipping away doing what you donforvthise kids you will be making a real difference.

What a read back, sad to see people ganging up on a poster. Big Jimmy keep yer chin up fella.

I would send a team with no first team players in it to play Prague and keep them away from any first team squad to protect the business.

Unfortunately the craziness of the situation sending players and staff around the globe is about cash not football or protecting lifes. Its About the rich getting richer, it’s about the corrupt topping up their bank balance, its shameful.

So either refuse to play (which probably isn’t an option) or send the understand to gain experience.

We are not as fortunate as the only club in world football who have had no impact due to Covid, HUNBEILAVABLE in fact they have benefited from it.
