Deadline day is as it should be

Deadline day is as it should be.  Celtic have completed the business which they hope will see them through to the title in May (or April).  There is a sub-squad of peripheral players who may get a loan, while Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to leave for Atlanta in the North American closed shop.  The MLS window is open until April, which introduces an anomaly for Celtic to consider.

With two in and two out in defence, a striker in and Giorgos probably heading out, the first team squad is net up a central midfielder – Tomoki Iwata.  Without closing doors on development opportunities open to our recent additions, it is hard to see the value in adding new bodies without others going out.

Ange has had 3 windows during which he has had some control.

Long way into the future …. but I’ll be very keen to see what the squad looks like after Ange has had another 3 windows.

(31 August 2024 is the date).

All speculation of course but I suspect there will be

    – a squad of c.33 players in total

    – c.25 senior players all capable of holding down a starting place

    – Up to 8 youngsters pushing them all the way

    – absolutely no deadwood. Everyone makes a tangible contribution to squad improvement and results.

Even better when he handed over and asked to turn it off. He did have a wee bit humour saying it’s not the PM 😁

  4. Any of our fringe guys getting loans or leaving ? Seems a slow window for those we want off of the wage bill ?

  5. Expressing satisfaction with the backing he received in the window, Postecoglou said: ‘With Josip and Giako going out, we have brought in four players under the age of 24 for less money than we have brought in, so, from that point of view, we have achieved our objective. If they contribute to the level I think they can, then I believe we will come out stronger.

  6. I watched Oliver last weekend.

    It is a musical.

The actual storyline would not be allowed on TV today.

One stat from Pie and Bovril if accurate is truly mind blowing

    Net penalties league table

    (Awarded minus conceded. This season)

    Sevco +6

    Hearts +4

    Livingston +2

    Motherwell +2

    St Johnstone +1

    Ross County 0

    Dundee United -1

    Aberdeen -2

    Celtic -2

    Hibs -4

    St Mirren -4

So there you have it. The team with ….

the best attack in the league by a long way (statistical fact)

    AND

the best defence in the league by a clear margin (statistical fact)

Is near to the bottom of the net penalties league?

Another … ahem .. statistical anomaly

GG is still in the building apparently although reports are saying his transfer to Atlanta has gone through .

Their transfer window is open until April so it removes the mad rush to dot the’i’s and cross the ‘t’s.

  9. So if the transfer window is open in Atlanta ,then clubs over here could buy players from them to play over here,

  10. Mornin.

Jack Aithcison (now 22) has joined Motherwell . I will be interested to see how he has matured as a player since leaving us

    Good luck to him .

  11. Game day. Looking forward to the pictures, less so the inane ballix coming from Gerry and Tom down the stream.

Cousins of William will offer no resistance to their bigoted brethren. Expect a dodgy VAR decision | penalty though after the Huns are 4 up.

Same as it ever was csc

re Net Penalties – you have overlooked the other statistic regarding all those fouls Celtic commit in every game and that we are obviously a very dirty team :-)

  13. Was speaking to someone in football yesterday about the disparity in fouls to possession

He explained it “could” be a tactic on Celtic’s end

lose the ball deep in the opponents half and give away a cheap nothing foul to prevent a breakaway and keep the opponent deep in there half

Will be looking at this in the game tonight………

  14. Apart from Juranivic and possibly G G what other Celtic players have left the club, also with Cameron Carter Vickers the only recognised Centre Half ,if he is injured who replaces him?

Well interesting theory but I would say 90% of the fouls given against us are in manoeuvres advancing towards the opposition goal.

    We really are ! 🤭

Getting serious again for two secs.

Pie and Bovril showed a fouls to cards ratio stat which was interesting.

We had the best record in the league.

Not definitive by any means but suggestive (to me at least) that we concede a high proportion of piddling, half fouls and nearly fouls …

… that don’t tot up to cards.

In England it’s been commented that City commit a lot of tactical fouls to prevent breaks against them.

For Celtic looking at the raw numbers might not tell the full story, you’d really need to see where on the pitch we are punished.

  22. The transfer deadline in the USA closes on 24th April and in Japan it’s 2nd April. Giakoumakis is expected to be gone by end of the week.

Looking forward to tonight’s game. Delighted to see bright sunshine today across the central belt with no rain forecast.

Good luck with the action hope you guys get something.

Something that annoys me about responses from union representitives in the media is that they accept reporters questions about disruptions as valid and what should those affected do.

Their respone IMO should be the unions are not responsible for the interruptions, the intransigent politicians who are driven by ideology and deny their failure to invest and provide decent conditions are to blame for the interruptions, and to tell those affected to write to their MP’s and demand investment in line with the bailouts provided for banksters and military industrial complex none of who pay taxes.
