DEAL ARMSTRONG IN! TIME FOR CELTIC TO BREAK THE STALEMATE

STUART ARMSTRONG made his International debut tonight for Scotland and his outstanding performance, creating a late job saving winner for Gordon Strachan side , is bound to attract serious attention for the Celtic star.

Former Celtic winger Davie Provan, commenting after the match noted that Armstrong produced a brilliant performance in a Scotland jersey.

“That was as good an international debut I have seen in a long number of years,” Provan noted.

Gordon Strachan agreed saying: “Stuart Armstrong produced the best international debut I have ever seen.”

Armstrong, who has scored in his last three outings for Celtic, will return to the Celtic side next Sunday when Celtic head through to Tynecastle hoping for a six in a row title winning party.

One thing is certain after tonight – Armstrong has proved he is good enough to play at the very highest level, and there will be plenty of clubs taking note of Stuart Armstrong’s ability.

So with this in mind it is crucial that Celtic move to secure an increasingly valuable asset.

Celtic must now act to make sure that a player who we understand wants to commit his long term future to the club, is given acceptable terms that fairly and accurately reflects his status achieved BEFORE this evening.

This could have appeared on CQN earlier in the week but wasn’t published as we didn’t want to cause any distraction to the player ahead of tonight’s vital game.

After the final whistle a contact, very close to the situation, messaged asking if a story was going up.

Tom Rogic, James Forrest, Kieran Tierney and Craig Gordon have all been given new, improved, long term contracts at Celtic this season and are all playing superbly for Brendan Rodgers.

Stuart Armstrong is playing out of his skin but has so far not been placed in that bracket by the club.

The Celtic manager, who is very much aware of the situation, should now turn his attention to sorting this out.

Armstrong has a modest contract extension on the table that  has remains unsigned for a considerable time. After tonight it seems even more likely that’s how it will remain.

The player, we understand, is very keen to stay at Celtic for the long term and an approach to the situation similar to the way Celtic dealt with Rogic, Forrest etc should be enough to sort out the issues.

Surely it is time for Celtic to break this stalemate that could otherwise cost us the most exciting Scottish midfielder in a long, long time.
