Declare the 9

873

I remember 1997 when another nine-in-a-row was about to be won.  We knew it was coming, we knew it would be difficult and we needed to get through the period.  I avoided all news coverage and football chat for over 24 hours that May, only to find out later that Motherwell’s Owen Coyle upset plans and the title had yet to be won.  I just wanted it over with, the delay was not helpful.

We are in the same situation now, there is not the remotest doubt the Premiership will be called and Celtic will be declared champions.  No one’s interest is served by further postponing the inevitable; it would only leave the SPFL in the spotlight longer than necessary.

Only box ticking exercises remain and today’s meeting between Premiership clubs and the SPFL should be the last.  Scottish football has more important things to worry about, it is in significant peril and needs to move energies on immediately.  Declare the 9.

Taking away the titles wrongly awarded to the huns in the years they had improperly registered players, how many consecutive titles do Celtic actually have?

  4. The SPFL will not want to be seen as being too quick to end the season. Also Celtic need to think carefully about how we manage what follows after announcement. Folk will congregate at the stadium regardless of what advice is given. The media will only be too happy to report and exploit this in a negative way.

Really looking forward to watching the SMSM air brushing out of existence the wrecking of Manchester when they celebrate the 10th anniversary of rangers reached the Uefa Cup Final, everyone else but rangers will be to blame – that is if they even mention it at all.

  6. If they don’t declare the title today BT would, rightly, be furious. They have a live programme at 5:30 to discuss the season with contributors- well, really only Big Chris worth tuning in for- live from their homes. They’d be mighty upset if they couldn’t finish off their sponsorship of Scottish football with a big hurrah before despicable sky get in. Please let it be so. Let the party begin!

  7. Wee get together of a few Bhoys (and a couple of non Celtic supporters) later this evening on Houseparty to wish an old friend a Happy 60th Birthday.

Wi’ a bit of luck the SPFL will announce 9 in a row, about 6 o’ clock so we can get the party started early!

The UEFA football season starts in July and the guidelines to the SPL have been on the table long enough, for a nine in a row that was won ‘on the pitch’ last March.

The SPL were rudely interrupted in applying the rules, for the good of Scottish football let the locked down celebrations commence.

And it would be 5th placed Livingston’s battle to fight?

    Hold that.

If two EL slots – not 3 – up for grabs then this is a fight for 4th placed Aberdeen.

    Interesting …

Perhaps Mr Cormack’s very public ball busting of the SPFL had some method after all?

I have to admit i was worried about the coviod-19 could kill us off but 10% of Dembelle sale and 90% of ajer likely sale, the removal from the wage bill of:

    Craig Gordon (Out of contract)

    Fraser Forster (End of loan)

    Moi Elyounoussi (End of loan)

    Jonny Hayes (Out of contract)

    Calvin Miller (Out of contract)

    Moritz Bauer (End of loan)

    Arzani (End of loan)

As well as the wage reductions agreed by players and other highly paid staff as well as the 80% wage cover from government should assist celtic. Possible PPV season tickets and gradual increase in people returning to stadium.

Cant see us adding any significant outgoings to the wage bill so signing more than one or two replacements is unlikely, but the good ship celtic should roll on just fine and the sooner we are back to normal the better.

    Stay safe

  15. Is Sevco were thinking of going into administration surely they would have done it this season- they would still be second I think.

Or perhaps they think everyone will be in the same boat next season.

There is a hell of a lot of work to do this summer.

Unless we are promoting some young guys from within I think we will be trying to sign:

Fraser Forster (or another keeper to compete with Bain for first place)

An experienced third-choice keeper that will allow Hazard & Darlow to go out on loan

A centre back to replace Ajer

A centre back to compete for starts

A starting left winger (potentially Moi)

A left back to compete with Taylor and Boli

A winger to put pressure on James Forrest

Probably another striker (rumour is that Neil doesn’t fancy Bayo & Klimala)

That’s 8 players in my estimation
