Dedryck, Kieran, Callum’s central mid role

159

When Dedryck Boyata leaves in the summer there will be a wide variance of views on the player’s time at Celtic, his performances against Newco in particular have not always been up to standard.  His nervous display at Hampden three years ago contributed to a poor Scottish Cup performance, but few have achieved as significant a performance improvement as Dedryck.

Whatever the personal issues which kept him out of the Belgium squad last week, it is great news that he is back at Lennoxtown and ready for action.

Kieran Tierney’s continued absence from training is more of a concern, although I’m sure Neil Lennon will not repeat the same mistake as Brendan Rodgers at Ibrox, and move Callum McGregor out of his midfield berth to fill in for Kieran at left back.  Jonny Hayes did well against Dundee and would get the nod, if necessary.

While results have been impeccable since the turn of the year, December’s Ibrox performance was a wakeup call.  Having control of central mid will make all the difference.  That will require Callum McGregor and at least one other with similar ability to move the ball quickly.

  1. Bada,

I just spent the last 20 minutes or so reading the full report from Fairhurst (which is on Celtic FC Official Site). Apart from the usual ‘corporate’ speak which is so widely used these days (to either bamboozle the layman or to provide variable interpretations which can, in turn, be used to hide behind), the details are fairly readable.

What the report does NOT DO is explain why, in the past when 7000 Ranjurs types came to our stadium there was no crush, but on the one and only occasion when 800 of them arrived there was this near- Hillsborough situation? My own ingress location, namely Turnstiles 6 – 13, get a mention as being part of the problem because queues form there (whodda thunk that eh?), as do the same group of turnstiles at the NE corner.

The awful re-timing of the match, thanks to feckin Sky, gets a clear mention, with reference to fans’ travel arrangements being severely curtailed due to the Sunday relocation of the match, meaning fans can’t spread their travel and arrival times over a longer period as they can do on a Saturday, with greater public transport availability (50% more public transport on a Saturday is actually quoted in the Report).

Yet they still say the safety of fans is paramount? Aye, right!

What a lot of lillian gish that turned out to be. As usual Police Scotland and their view and treatment of Celtic fans, and football fans in general is nowhere to be seen.

SPARTIM, actually it is mentioned, and Fairhurst are critical of Police Scotland, saying that fans were not treated in a manner they should have been expected to be. I must admit I chuckled at that, because I suspect our ghuys/ghuyesses were treated EXACTLY as they expected to be!

  3. Maybe stockpiled all that money to buy multiple gallons of whitewash.

Fairhurst and painters don’t come cheap either!

  6. BBhoy- regarding watching the game in the Howgaite at Townhead (formerly known as The Lee) opens at 11am and you would be advised to get in early if you want a seat. No ticket required, only stipulation is that you are a Tim. ???

They are a bit of a stickler for no football tops or things with a Celtic or Rangers name on it, no many Huns in it anyway right enough.

They serve food, it is pub fair right enough.

I’m heading over in May after cup final and there is a foundation event on Saturday 1st June

Sure I’ll get a few pointers for you.

  12. Regarding the crush at the Sept TFOD2.1 game.

I think that you need to start with the extra traffic in the tunnel that day.

Normally there are 7K opposition fans in the SE corner and part of the LL stand.

However that day there were only 800 so there were another 6K CFC fans trying to get to that side of the ground. That would mean more West to East traffic than would have been the case in the past.

Consequently it all the G+SL’s fault for monkeying about with the away fan ticket allocation.

There should have much more police and club comms to highlight this and the report would seem to suggest that there was less than normal..Poor show all round.

  13. Much appreciated BT,that would be grand.she has flights booked .it accomadation and what to do etc, :-)

Certainly King’s desperation set off a chain of events which led to thousands of Celtic supporters being put at risk of crushing after 11.30 am on Sept 2, 2018, but as noted in the Review, PoliceScotland made the decision, (without the involvement of GCC as I had previously thought) at 10.35am to close the London Road, and it is this decision, which if not the single factor, is, in my opinion, the major factor in the crushing which followed.

  17. SAINT STIVS on 27TH MARCH 2019 @ 4:50 PM

I’m pretty sure everyone knew the closing of London Rd was “the cause”. It was a predictable mistake. The polis and celtic security blundered. Anyone taking the blame? No.

What should have been investigated was the police reaction to the developing chaos. They obviously didn’t cooperate. If they had, their videos and radio communication would have been made available.

I would imagine the decision to close London Road was made by the police. Don’t understand why some blame was not placed at their door. I don’t think they would be responding to a request from Celtic.

In truth, I know exactly why they are said to be blameless.

  22. I see there is a push to improve facilities at Celtic Park rather than build a Hotel and museum.

I have been going to Celtic park for years and to me the catering has poor service, from poorly motivated, poorly trained staff, prices are very high £2.60 for a small plastic cup with a tea bag and lukewarm water. The pies and other food items are poor quality.

I know longer wish to spend 20mins queuing for expensive poor quality food with poor service.

I don’t buy anything in the ground

correct answer it was a trick question.

  24. terge/garygillespie…

As a general rule road closures are made by local authorities in Scotland under legislation passed in Edinburgh or local bye-laws. At the time I assumed GCC had been involved/agreed to the closure of the London Road in advance of the match, as per other events, but, as we now know the decision was made by PoliceScoland alone, (Celtic have no jurisdiction) at 10.35am, ie at a time when fans en route would have little or no knowledge of the decision. The decision itself was also made in part at least, to prevent “hostile vehicles” using London Road ie to prevent acts of terrorism. Now, while I agree with you that the decision to close the road was always likely to have been the major cause of the subsequent crushing, it is still important to know who made it, their reasons for making it and when they made it. Were you aware that the threat of terrorism was a factor in making that decision? Me neither.

LONDON — The British Foreign Office on Wednesday defended spending almost $16 million to buy an apartment for a diplomat in New York as “the best possible deal and value for money” and a way to promote Britain’s business interests in the city.

The British government paid 12 million pounds, or about $15.8 million, for the property, a full-floor penthouse on the 38th floor of 50 United Nations Plaza, a 43-story condominium building that is a stone’s throw from the United Nations headquarters on the East Side of Manhattan.

It will be home to Antony Phillipson, the British consul general in New York. Mr. Phillipson is also Britain’s trade commissioner for North America,
