Dedryck, Kieran, Callum’s central mid role

159

When Dedryck Boyata leaves in the summer there will be a wide variance of views on the player’s time at Celtic, his performances against Newco in particular have not always been up to standard.  His nervous display at Hampden three years ago contributed to a poor Scottish Cup performance, but few have achieved as significant a performance improvement as Dedryck.

Whatever the personal issues which kept him out of the Belgium squad last week, it is great news that he is back at Lennoxtown and ready for action.

Kieran Tierney’s continued absence from training is more of a concern, although I’m sure Neil Lennon will not repeat the same mistake as Brendan Rodgers at Ibrox, and move Callum McGregor out of his midfield berth to fill in for Kieran at left back.  Jonny Hayes did well against Dundee and would get the nod, if necessary.

While results have been impeccable since the turn of the year, December’s Ibrox performance was a wakeup call.  Having control of central mid will make all the difference.  That will require Callum McGregor and at least one other with similar ability to move the ball quickly.

  11. Hi Mick. Glad to hear that all went well and that you are in good spirits. Go easy on the Black Stuff for 24 hours until the anaesthetic is completely out of your system?. One or two instead of the usual 10 or 12?.

Thanks for the advice, the hospital staff kept mentioning Bob Campbell

who was scottish and the top medical person there in revered tones.

That changed when i said ” never trust a Campbell ”

Jokingly of course, then had to give them a full course on Scottish history.

Does the name ring any ( camp ) bells?

    H.H Mick

  13. Hi Mick. Name does not ring any bells. I used to visit the place regularly when it was the Peter Macallum cancer Centre. It was one of the best in the world. Moved now to the VCCC and still very good but it has lost a bit of its soul. One of the former Directors was with us at the Mornington event recently.

  14. Melbourne Mick on

Yes that was the top surgeon in Victoria if i remember correctly

and his Hungarian wife the top nutritionist for the states welfare.

And he’s sitting telling me ” i’ve been watching you ghuys on utube

to get in the mood ” for his first time at a Celtic event.

What a great and learned crowd we attract to our club.

    Yourself included of course.

  16. Good morning CQN from a dark and chilly Garngad

An Tearman re New York – I am not as sophisticated as some, so I cannot recommend swanky restaurants, but I thoroughly enjoyed our trip there last year. If there is a Celtic game on and your friends want to watch the game in a Celtic pub, there are loads of Irish pubs, but the Home of the Manhattan Celtic Supporters club in The 3rd floor of Jack Dempsey’s pub on west 35th street near to Macy’s, is a great place to watch the game, you will get a warm welcome from Des and the gang an ex Castlemilk bhoy.

I done a list of all the stuff that we wanted to do when there and done a daily itinerary going by areas. So one day down by Ground Zero then financial district, Wall Street, American museum, Statue of Liberty , then walk across to Brooklynn bridge passing through the court/judicial district (some amazing architecture) and onto China town and Little Italy.

Then another day another area and repeat. ? point is an itinerary is best to follow.

Also get the New York pass before you go, well we done thus I don’t know if it’s cheaper over there, but certainly better than paying into each attraction.

As I say we loved the place, just a different vibe and very diverse. Superb?

I am sure your friends will have a ball.

    Hail Hail

  18. Melbourne Mick – keep the posts coming I love your tales from down under and I hope to visit the land of Oz (probably when I retire) which will be a wee while away, or when the old mortgage is paid aff, ?, that will be sooner. But keep the tales coming.

Hail Hail to all you Ex Pats, up at all hours to watch the Hoops, which we take for granted being able to walk to Celtic park, and having played a bit of football, I particularly like your updates on your Bhoys/Ghirls football teams. ?

  20. The hoops are going to hump the Huns on Sunday, big time. December will be a bad memory and the hordes of zombies will have all hope crushed. Comfortable win. Hail Hail.

  21. My 1st Glasgow derby was at Ibrox when we clinched the league with a 2-2 draw in the pissing rain.Whilst we dominated for the next decade, we lost a fair few against them.

These days, the Zombies must be shitting themselves before every derby, because they KNOW that if Celtic turn up, they get leathered. The bombast from the media makes it all the sweeter when we knock four or five past them.

So, just turn up on Sunday, Celtic, and we could be in for a treat.

  22. I see it’s being reported that the SFA are about to bin Tyrannosauras Eck following a ” deeply disturbing episode” prior to the San Marino game.

Maybe that was the distress of the players who found out that he was still in a job when he walked into the dressing room.

Hopefully McRae and Petrie follow him out the door. If only!

  23. David 66,

Apologies for the delay, thanks for the advice on the pub for Sunday, I will look into it. Much appreciated,

The Hun are never ” ineligible “. They were given a Temporary Licence to prove it .The show must go on .

  25. MELBOURNE MICK @ 10:34 PM,

Well thank you, many years of comment and being misunderstood or even incoherent has led me to honing a limited skill in commenting.

However it comes no where near your magical, insightful and idiosyncratic posts… as I’ve said before, they oooze Celticness.

Well to have Tommy’s skillset, loyalty, empathy and drive that was hewed in Celtic with Brendan Rodgers undoubted coaching excellence would be a dream come true.

However when I was a wee bhoy starting school, we went one better;)

    SFTB’s @ 10:15 PM,

Thank you for clarifying the timescales etc regarding the China Crisis… It appears in all versions of happening after we signed Edouard (mid- June) – yet you had stated we went on to win the treble anyway, which would put it before May…

Now something else to clarify, the inner sanctum blogger I was referring to as far as I’m aware has nothing to do with CQN, many years ago when he started his blog he came on here – no idea if he still does or what his nome de plume might be if he does – he does podcasts an awe.

My take on life is holistic, in my mind the malicious briefing against Brendan Rodgers and the subsequent reaction of folk are not disconnected, far from it.

Celtic has been devoid of leadership and transparency since Lord Reid left and has not had true leadership, courage and purpose since Fergus.

    It is sadly missed.
