Deep dive research

176

We know Chris Davies well from his time as assistant to Brendan Rodgers first time around.  Chris left Leicester with Brendan two years ago and instead of an expected return to Celtic, joined Ange Postecoglou to be his assistant at Tottenham.  Ange also knew the influence Chris brought to Celtic, their only season working together was productive in London.

A year ago Birmingham City offered Chris his first managerial role.  He earned promotion to the EFL Championship in May, aided by Tomoki Iwata.  Now Kyogo has joined him at Birmingham.  Like everyone else who has worked at Lennoxtown since 2016, Kyogo will know all about Chris and Chris will know all about Kyogo.  Unlike the player’s unproductive term at Rennes, his stay in Birmingham will be a genuine chance to recreate his glory years in Glasgow.

Chris, Ange, Tomoki and Kyogo all had the luxury of making well-informed decisions on who to work with.  Celtic took a well-informed decision to re-hire Brendan (and Neil Lennon), but that’s rare for us.  Most of our recruitment decisions are based on scouting, a few references and, of course, the metrics.

A real deep dive into a player’s potential is impossible unless you have worked with him or watched his dozens of times.  Getting ever-closer to a club, or even a league, will deliver insights which cannot be seen in stats alone.

    What’s Japanese for ‘fridge’?

    冷蔵庫

    obviously.

Stebhoy, obviously in a game like this we shouldn’t need a DM but I agree with you in principle. The particular team also seriously lacks pace.

  3. lets all do the huddle on

Carlos Alcaraz took more luggage onto the centre court at wimbledon today for a 2 hour game than most scottish guys would take for a week in Ibiza

  4. TN – yeh – speed to burst through and speed to get back. We’ve been too dependent on fouling when we lost possession to allow regroup. Or Maeda to chase back to cover for our lack of pace. Tierney will help some recovery with his speed but we have a serious gap right accross our midfield. I worry Rodgers doesnt see it.

As usual we are linked with a ton of wingers and a couple central defenders!

Who would win in a fight between McCulloch & Grant verse Cuddihy & Donnelly?

  7. Maybe once we sell Maeda and Reo along with Kuhn, we’ll go on a spending splurge . . . .then again, maybe not.

Come on guys, we’ve seen this movie more often than the Great Escape. You know how it goes.

In a discussion on here (with stivs I think) at the end of the season I stated that I’d be shocked if we were stronger by the time the serious stuff starts. No sign of the shock coming my way so far.

    https://www.67hailhail.com/transfers/norwich-city-embarrass-celtic-with-mathias-kvistgaarden-transfer-as-shock-6-9m-release-clause-unearthed/

I quite like the work that the guys at 67 hail hail do and Anthony Joseph is probably the only journo at Sky Sports i would give the time of day to.

But this story is complete bull5h1t.

Who negotiates a contract with clubs on behalf of a player?

So, who knows the details of that contract intimately?

So, who agrees the principles of that contract, duration, benefits, release clause?

And who fields queries from potential suitors who are interested in understanding the total financial commitment indeed?

    Answer to all.

    “The player’s agent”

That an agent would keep the release clause a secret (would that make him a secret agent?) and three top clubs wouldn’t enquire is fanciful.

  11. osmand has something about him – good build and eye for a channel run. Look forward to seeing him with better 1st team players around him.

The main thing I’m picking up from the second half so far is the poor first touch of the Celtic mf.

  14. commentary is woeful. They dont know who’s on the pitch. I think it’s turley in right midfield – very tidy with the ball and not afraid to take a man on (he impressed end of last season). Pitch is not helping

  16. ffs – Steven welsh and Doohan make a total mess of that ! welsh leaves it , keeper is slow. I think welsh needs to shield the ball or just get it out of there ! a good defender would never take a chance.

  17. lets all do the huddle on

i think if our defenders actually defend first it may be more helpful

Quelle suprise, an injury to Welsh.

    The guy’s made of glass.

  19. lets all do the huddle on

Welsh didnt know if the keeper was coming to collect it, and didnt know if there was a forward behind him.

well just rattle it away into the stand then.

  20. good couple of spells from osmand – twisting and setting up and turning to get a shot away .

There are some basics that annoy the life out of me when profiling a player. A center defender should have height, positional sense and areal power. If they dont have that , they must compensate with speed and athleticism. Stephen Welsh has none of these and is not at celtic level- then he goes off injured! a story we have seen too often.

  23. And we sign a goalie who was at the heart of Aberdeens slump last season. Clever stuff.

  24. timmy7_noted on

This is dire I’m afraid. Surface isn’t helping but our first touch and short passing is terrible.
