We know Chris Davies well from his time as assistant to Brendan Rodgers first time around. Chris left Leicester with Brendan two years ago and instead of an expected return to Celtic, joined Ange Postecoglou to be his assistant at Tottenham. Ange also knew the influence Chris brought to Celtic, their only season working together was productive in London.
A year ago Birmingham City offered Chris his first managerial role. He earned promotion to the EFL Championship in May, aided by Tomoki Iwata. Now Kyogo has joined him at Birmingham. Like everyone else who has worked at Lennoxtown since 2016, Kyogo will know all about Chris and Chris will know all about Kyogo. Unlike the player’s unproductive term at Rennes, his stay in Birmingham will be a genuine chance to recreate his glory years in Glasgow.
Chris, Ange, Tomoki and Kyogo all had the luxury of making well-informed decisions on who to work with. Celtic took a well-informed decision to re-hire Brendan (and Neil Lennon), but that’s rare for us. Most of our recruitment decisions are based on scouting, a few references and, of course, the metrics.
A real deep dive into a player’s potential is impossible unless you have worked with him or watched his dozens of times. Getting ever-closer to a club, or even a league, will deliver insights which cannot be seen in stats alone.

Donovan.
welsh has plenty of previous with his tendancy to let the ball run by him when he doesnt know whats going on around him.
i much prefer a defender just to launch it to hell if he isnt sure, and then the not-sureness can be sorted without having lost a goal
Donavan, I think. Was substituted but then came back on.
Ft thankfully
anyway,
thats Cork well and truly stuck back in their bottle.
Look out, Shortie will be reporting “ugly scenes” after the final whistle v

In a discussion on here (with stivs I think) at the end of the season I stated that I’d be shocked if we were stronger by the time the serious stuff starts. No sign of the shock coming my way so far.

that is our b team playing, only value is to assess who stays, who goes on loan and who is getting moved on.
the first team have another 7 weeks to get added to.
i wxpect improvement to everyone in the first 25.
no presentation due to fans on the pitch, its an omen.
Nice wee run out,a future quiz question.
I wish Celtic would always tour Ireland pre-season.

its hard to judge the younger players when they are surrounded by young development players. Individually Inamura looked good in the air, was confident and had good delivery. Didn’t see if he had speed to recover and tackle. too soon!
Forrest was the only player to made cork players look like cork players. Considering we had trusty, mcgregor, Mccowan and Engels on the pitch and none of them stood it is concerning! Engels may yet surprise us but I’m struggling to find an indicator , anything to suggest he is a 3m player let alone 11m! Sometimes you have to cut your losses – offset by money made resale (frimpong etc..)
Kenny didn’t show up but Osmand did when he came on – did enough to suggest he could link up well with better players around him.
Dry bumpy pitch didn’t help.

engels is going to be a great player, many many contributions in his first season debut, playing more football than he ever did before,
he wont suprise me, he will floridh.
SS – I hope so too!
If I heard right, there was a crowd of 30k. Certainly looked busy.
There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. If I could find my teeth.
I can’t but help feel we’ve short changed the Irish support…they actually deserve better …Great to see all those kids in celtic tops
Take the positives out of pre season friendlies or you’re looking at a pretty miserable few weeks

Totally agree with you. Celtic neglected our Irish fans by not visiting for years or by sending over 2nd or 3rd string teams. No wonder we lost a lot of our Irish supporters. I feel we are beginning to try to rectify the situation with recent visits to Sligo and Cork, however, I feel we need to do more to try to win back some of the fans who follow the EPL teams.

Sounds like Brendan’s got a good look at Inamoto. Im always slightly freaked out on my first day on holiday in Europe , god knows what a switch from Japan to Cork would do to me, so hes showed up well so far
Very early days obviously

Inamura’s debut tonight reminded me of walking out of Fir Park after Izaguirre’s debut all they years ago.
You could just tell the guy could play the game.
im not saying what will happen from now on, who knows.
but i like players who dont treat the ball like an enemy!
The only two places in Ireland where Celtic are the largest supported Club is West Belfast and Donegal. Everywhere else we’re a distant thought behind the EPL. That’s been my experience anyway.
AN DUN,
That has been my impression for a long time.
Dire.
Was that not a plastic pitch?Sure played like one .
when we played liverpool in the aviva about 11 or 12 years ago it was two thirds liverpool fans.
the draw of the english premiership in ireland isnt going to go away anytime soon.
so salute the irish that do support us, and travel over every week or 2.
we see all their stuff on social media leaving at 4am and mad times like that to get to glasgow.
brilliant stuff.

LADTH,
Well said.
I trust Cork Celt had a grand time this evening.
This is pre-season. Giving in depth analysis of the players is a bit of a waste of ink and energy.
As for short changing the Irish, maybe so. However, we were never going to play senior players who are not fit enough. So what were Celtic to do? Find an empty week during the season? There aren’t many of these around.
Weeron.
Fair play to the Kneecap chaps.
Not seen a band generate as much hype and faux-outrage since the Beastie Boys.
Nothing like a pre season friendly to get the boo boys out, these games should be behind closed doors, but tv companies want to give you a couple of quid
Great to wake and hear that some of our new signings shone over in Cork, especially Inamura san.
Despite the admitted dearth of data on the lad, he seems to have looked the part.
Clearly someone in the hoose has an eye for a player!
Well done bhoys.

Spot on. Ridiculous bringing kids from all around Ireland to watch a shadow Celtic team.
It cost good money that families are finding hard to come by, to attend games.
For many, this is there only chance to see their heroes live. What do they get ? 11 new players at halftime, not to mention the lack of talent/effort in the first half.
How to win kids over to Celtic from supporting EPL teams ? Me arse.
Negatives on the pitch, Murray, two serious mistakes, younger players (not one shone out)
Positives, Inamura. Has vision, good header, looks a player.
