We know Chris Davies well from his time as assistant to Brendan Rodgers first time around. Chris left Leicester with Brendan two years ago and instead of an expected return to Celtic, joined Ange Postecoglou to be his assistant at Tottenham. Ange also knew the influence Chris brought to Celtic, their only season working together was productive in London.
A year ago Birmingham City offered Chris his first managerial role. He earned promotion to the EFL Championship in May, aided by Tomoki Iwata. Now Kyogo has joined him at Birmingham. Like everyone else who has worked at Lennoxtown since 2016, Kyogo will know all about Chris and Chris will know all about Kyogo. Unlike the player’s unproductive term at Rennes, his stay in Birmingham will be a genuine chance to recreate his glory years in Glasgow.
Chris, Ange, Tomoki and Kyogo all had the luxury of making well-informed decisions on who to work with. Celtic took a well-informed decision to re-hire Brendan (and Neil Lennon), but that’s rare for us. Most of our recruitment decisions are based on scouting, a few references and, of course, the metrics.
A real deep dive into a player’s potential is impossible unless you have worked with him or watched his dozens of times. Getting ever-closer to a club, or even a league, will deliver insights which cannot be seen in stats alone.

Rodgers Explains Adam Idah Absence in Cork
By
Aaron Haire –
July 9, 2025
Rodgers, speaking after the 2-1 win over Cork City, explained the rationale behind the decision and confirmed the striker’s involvement in the games to come.
“Obviously, emotionally, it would have been lovely, and I’d have loved to have played Adam here, but the international guys only came back on Friday, so he trained hard this morning and almost the other guys,”
“It’s just too big a risk, come back in after being off for the summer and you only train Friday, Saturday, we normally would give them at least a week before they would play.
“Adam knows. I think for him it’s just amazing for him to be back home, to come back, when I told him last year we wouldn’t be coming to Cork he was really excited about it.
“He understood why he wasn’t, but I know he’s loved being back here for this short time.”

Celtic fans riot (MSM)!
Couple of things from last night. Why play Osmond in the second half?.Surely it would have been better to play him with Calmac,Engels, etc.Get him time with first team guys.Just strange to me.
Secondly,to even play Welsh. The boy has no future with us.Talking about a transfer. Now he is injured, how bad,who knows.Could supper any chance to transfer him.Crazy decision, for no apparent reason.
Last night’s fiasco, won’t be selling many more tickets for the Newcastle game.An absolute snore from start to finish.Short changing the 30 thousand fans who paid good money to turn up.
As someone said last night,Inamuras display reminded me of Izzaguires debut at LB.Ice cool, flawless display. Not a shred of nerves.
I remember Brown, the Motherwell manager saying after the game,” Bad enough playing Celtic, then they turn up with Roberto Carlos at LB”
Why does a management team make the decisions they do?
1. They work with the players daily.
2. They need to see different combinations in real game time.
3. They need to risk players being injured to make serious decisions.
4. They cannot wrap players in cotton wool and know they can be injured in training or even warm up time.
But, I am not a football coach, and am just offering a lay man’s opinion.
BTW I paid to watch the match and really enjoyed it.
Hassan Dembele, the younger brother of former Hoops prodigy Karamoko, has signed his first professional contract with Celtic.
The 16-year-old joins a crop of seven academy players to put pen to paper on pro terms last week, and he’ll be hoping to carve out a name for himself at the club where his brother first broke through.
Capable of playing at right-back or right midfield, Hassan is aiming to build on his development and follow the same path that saw Karamoko make his senior debut for Celtic at just 16 years old back in 2019.
Karamoko, now at QPR following a stint in France, reacted to his brother’s post with a glowing endorsement: “My favourite player right now.” Meanwhile, eldest brother Siriki, currently with Oxford United and once linked with a move to Celtic himself, added simply: “We cookin.”

I can’t but help feel we’ve short changed the Irish support…they actually deserve better …Great to see all those kids in celtic tops”
Totally agree, these initial games are training exercises, excluding internationals, just back on Friday, so the numbers are limited.
The Irish support deserve to see a proper Celtic first team, they pay enough. If the club are trying to encourage the Irish support might I suggest they time the game near the end of these pre-season games.
If you are playing closer to the start of the campaign then you more likely to field a full strength side.
Give the Irish bhoys and ghirls a chance to see the real hoops 🇮🇪
Just read on sentinels

According to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, OGC Nice have reached an agreement with Rapid Vienna for Isak Jansson (23).
The Austrian side are set to receive around €10m plus bonuses for a player who first joined the club in 2024 from FC Cartagena, first on loan in the winter transfer window, before the move was made permanent in the summer.
In the 2024/25 season, the winger who can also play as a striker made 33 appearances across all competitions for Rapid Vienna, scoring nine and assisting six. His performances had caught the attention of Celtic FC, who had been heavily linked with a move.
However, Nice appear to have won the race for a player who has represented Sweden in the underage brackets, with Foot Mercato reporting that a medical has been scheduled, while Rapid Vienna put out a club statement announcing that Jansson had departed their training camp.
Sad news about Davie, Old Tim, an absolute gentleman and wonderful company. I was fortunate to meet him meet him a fair few times over the vintage CQN years in company with many others who are much missed.
