Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

    How long was our winning spell going into the Aberdeen game? Yet it was not packed. Crowds of less than 20,000 were not unheard of in our 9iar years.

  3. If they go bust, the sfa will do everything in their power to help them retain a place in the game.

    This in turn will account for many more 1000s walking away from the game.

    The game’s up, it’s on it’s knees and I doubt it will recover.

  7. Good point. Clean sheets should quantised in terms of games

    ————————————————-

    Excellent news,

    The quantum of clean sheets has been discovered by CQNers and they have named it 1 ‘game’

    Well done to all concerned, the Nobel Prize for Physics should be yours this year

    It raises many questions though

    Does current Quantum Mechanics accurately describe the behaviour of the clean sheet

    What effect does Heisenbergs Uncertainty Principle have on the clean sheet – it must mean that we can never accurately describe all the properties of the clean sheet at the same time

    And with the superposition of states of the clean sheet, does that mean that the clean sheet is both there and not there are the same time, so FF has both kept clean sheets for the last ten league games, but also hasnt?

    Right, time to get the pen and paper out and work this out properly

    I think I said that we need to play with a certain style to pack the place out.

    Fans want to be entertained. We are onto a hiding to nothing at the minute. We romp every tournament it is expected and the game is rotten. We get beat and we are slaughtered. We all know though with the budget we have. The youth set up we have and the players who are at the club that we have under achieved massively this season. Nobody will convince me otherwise.

    I saw some rotten games and teams in the 80’s & 90’s but would still be there every week but if i knew then that my club and scottish clubs would let cheating win then i most certainly would have chucked it back then.

    I want to be entertained but in the end i want a fair competition.

  13. Reuse of a name after Liquidation.

    The law restricts the re-use of a name previously used by a company that has gone into insolvent liquidation (section 216 of The Insolvency Act 1986). This restriction applies personally to a director of the company in insolvent liquidation. The name which can’t be used is known as the “prohibited name”. This leaflet explains what re-use of a prohibited name means. It does not give a complete list of everything you must and must not do, nor does it give you legal advice. To understand exactly how the restrictions affect you, you should always take your own independent professional advice.

    What is a prohibited name? A prohibited name is a name by which the liquidated company was known at any time in the 12 months immediately before the liquidation: whether this is its registered name at Companies House, or its trading name, or any name so similar to its registered or trading name as to suggest an association with the liquidated company.

    Who is restricted? The restriction applies to a person who was registered as a director or acted as a director of the company in insolvent liquidation at any time during the 12 months immediately before the liquidation.

    What is the restriction? For 5 years from the date of liquidation, you are not permitted to be a director of or take part in the promotion, formation or management of a limited company that is using a prohibited name. In addition you may not be concerned in or take any part in carrying on a business that is using a prohibited name if the business is not a limited company (for example, if it is a partnership or sole trader).

    What is an example of a prohibited name? Say the company in insolvent liquidation was registered at Companies House as ABC Limited and it used the trading name XYZ, then the following would apply:

    • The registered name ABC Limited or XYZ Limited would be prohibited.

    • The trading name ABC or XYZ would be prohibited.

    • The trading name ABC or XYZ used by an unincorporated business (such as a sole trader or partnership) would be prohibited.

    • If a company or business had a registered name or trading name so similar as to suggest an association with ABC or XYZ, the name would be prohibited.

  18. Afternoon all

    Still got the grumps after the weekend.

    I do not read the Scottish press but has there been any reference to the chanting from the Aberdeen fans? Singing about Neil Lennon is bad but not unsurprising – but the ‘you’re in the wrong country’ and stuff about Jimmy Saville is in my opinion more worthy of comment. Maybe it was the Green Brigade.

    Can’t get too worked up about clean sheet or even unbeaten league runs though if we get to , say, the split with both records intact I might start to get interested.

    When we were in the midst of turgid 1:0 wins in December, our January attendances went down.

    Following on from some hefty drubbings of St. Mirren, Well, Hibs and Kilmarnock, our February attendances were disappointing too.

    We blamed the football attractiveness issue during WGS era too, with a bit more validity, but the hypothesis does not fit the evidence. It is one of those songs we sing to ourselves to feel better.

  21. Clean sheet records are all well and good.

    Bragging rights doon the pub.

    How many trophies for clean sheets are there?

    None.

    During the all-conquering 1966/67 season Celtic’s playing record was:

    P59 W48 D8 L3 F184 A51.

    Number of clean sheets: 31.

    The longest run of clean sheets in the league: 4.

    Big Jock did not seem too bothered with clean sheet records. He knew that if the opposition scored 2 or 3 goals Celtic would score more.

    Some scorelines from that season:

    Hibs 3-5 Celtic;

    Celtic 7-3 Stirling;

    Dunfermline 4-5 Celtic;

    Celtic 8-2 St Mirren;

    Celtic 6-3 Dunfermline;

    Havnt read anything about it. and Nevin never mentioned it eethers!!

  25. I watched the game on Saturday in a pub full of Aberdeen fans, and some of the vitriol being spewed towards Celtic, and Lennon in particular, astonished me!

    I have a lot of friends who are Aberdeen fans too, and I feel I have to remind them that they don’t hate Celtic, they hate rangers. Since their demise, all this has changed, apparently.

    I used to always get asked, due to my west coast accent, who I support, and when I answered Celtic, 9 times out of 10, I’d get “Oh well, at least you’re not a hun. I don’t mind Celtic”. Now it seems they hate Celtic, due to us being the biggest team in the country, I assume.

    Also, there was an article published in the wake of the recent coin throwing incident, that suggested that Aberdeen fans “hate everyone equally”. A very “them” attitude, so I’d agree with the previous poster that said the were becoming like “them”.

  26. You may scoff all you like about ‘clean sheets’, when we are 21 points to the good.

    Hate to be reading this blog if we were 21 points behind!

    No one is forced to be a Celtic Supporter, if you can’t stand ‘the heat’, go else where!

    i am sick of the ‘me,me,me’, attitude on here. We have so many problems at our club,

    it’s a wonder we manage to keep going at all, Duff Manager, Duff players, Duff Board,

    Duff CEO ,and so it goes on,and on,and on!

    If i felt, as some on here, i’d simply take myself off somewhere else, perhaps to one of the

    ‘non-sectarian’ clubs, who are 21 points behind us!
