Defensive shape not right

482

Penny for the thoughts of Erik Sviatchenko on Saturday as he watched the defence he’ll soon become part of. Players were skipping past Jozo Simunovic while we had Keystone Cops defending from Efe at a corner kick (our problems here are clearly not resolved).

St Johnstone failed to score during their previous five games but would have scored more against a generous Celtic were it not for some fine work by Craig Gordon.

Individual errors aside, there are aspects of our shape I’m not happy with. In previous times you wouldn’t know if the Celtic defence and keeper were having a good game, they were so well protected. In the Premiership, this makes for entertaining football as we march to the title, but at a higher level we’ll be ripped open.

There’s not a proper defensive midfielder at the club. If we’re going to keep to this shape, we’ll need one before August.

  1. Has Efe ever played midfield before? Apart from one game for us.

If his numerous club and international bosses play him in defence and the player himself prefers playing there then maybe time some fans on here drop that idea :0)

  3. I have given some thought to the Album Covers question and I have arrived at the view that I don’t like any album covers, much as I don’t like any book covers particularly.

I am aware of the ones that you are supposed to admire

Sticky Fingers and Led Zep 3 with the features that you could unzip or twirl if you were of a mind to indulge in such pastimes.

Electric Ladyland for the soft porn aspects.

And all the hippy-dippy ones for Yes or Osibisa.

But I only liked albums based on the music within. I have almost every Van Morrison LP but the only cover I could bring to mind (most feature the fat man himself) was the one where he had an Irish Wolfhound (?) at his feet- “Nice dog”, I thought and proceeded to listen to the man’s voice, far preferable to his profile, like The Corrs in reverse.

I have Most of the work of BNL but cannot bring to mind a cover ( a vague memory of a pirate ship apart) and Loudon Wainwright (is there one with a polar bear?).

Am I alone in thinking there is little Art involved at all. They are 90% self indulgence and promotion and 10% marketing hype or Pseud’s Corner artistry.

It’s like valuing a footballer by how nice his boots are.

Efe is also one of our best passers. When he pings the ball out to Lustig ( if Mik is awake) he arcs it so that he can run on to it. This perhaps doesn’t fit the team habit of playing the ball behind so they have to retrieve.

I think our support watch Efe waiting for his mistake ignoring (or begrudging) all his positives.

The blue eyed bhoys get away with murder and are described as ” not one of his better days”

    Not afforded to Efe.

  10. Yet again some “Celtic fans” trying to blame Peter Lawwell for this debacle at the SFA. I don’t understand where these “Celtic Fans” gain from this nonsense.

Celtic have been forced to take a place in the SFA due to what has happened over the last 4 or 5 years. Celtic were kept out of the loop involving George Peat/Gordon Smith and Regan/Ogilvie and secure little support outside of financial matters. We couldn’t trust these people and had to be inside.

I expect if there was involvement by the Professional game board( doubtful) then Celtic would have to step aside of any involvement due to conflict of interest.

Never mind, some posters on here cannot resist having a go at their own club

Celtic set to end interest in Ljuban Crepulja as Patrick Roberts talks begin

Will be the most pointless signing ever. Plays in positions we already have too many players. He won’t be with us come CL qualifiers. What sort of message does it send to our own youngsters, particularly Aiden Nesbitt who RD think highly of? RD said he didn’t want loan signings unless there was an option to buy, you would have to imagine that this isn’t his signing. Why are we seemingly so keen to help develop Man City’s youngsters?

  16. Album covers is it? The Jam- In the City. Rush – 2112.

All the best to the mighty MOrton tonight. Got a feeling in my water that they could get something off the accursed latest incarnation of the huns..

Yeah it is weird the Man City thing , I read earlier RD not a fan on loan player. Read into that what you want. Nesbitt looks the biz as well.

    Big bhoy,

Do you know anything about Celtics involvement in the SFA ?

  19. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

The Roberts loan does not surprise me, what would surprise me is if it was a smoke screen, I like surprises so I’ll hope for one.

  20. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    KLV,

As long as it’s a permanent deal for a decent player, I’ll take it, a six month loan for another winger just seems like a waste of resources to me.

Then again ive saying for a wee while, you can’t have too many wingers, or so it seems :)

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession

Yeah your right we are heavy in MD and most of the players are very similar in there. I think on Sat we saw the new players in Alan, christie, Erik and GMS back on form. Pretty strong bench. So for me, A striker is top priority. MD is heavy we have a new CB pairing in Jozo (screw the heed) and Erik. Still light up top.

Thanks for all the album cover suggestions. There are a few crackers in there – and a few surprises too.

Just listening to Richard Wilson on Shortbread commenting on the money that has already been spent by the new regime at Ibrox.
