We arrived at Celtic Park yesterday with an anticipatory bounce in the step. A full house for flag day with the usual summer noise from elsewhere hushed by the harsh realities of the Scottish Premiership. St Mirren were not there to make up the numbers, though, and withstood 76% possession and wave after wave of attack without looking overwhelmed.
Genuine chances were few with the visitor’s two banks of players (defenders and auxiliary defenders) parked in front of the box. Celtic mix it up by playing the long ball to Adam Idah, but he was well marshalled throughout.
Kieran Tierney was back and immediately dispelled any concerns we had about how effective he would be. His touch, timing in the challenge and industry were first class, but for me, it was his forward passing that was most impressive. Fortunately his retirement shortly after the hour was a planned change.
You and I have discussed deflected goals often. When you are up against a packed defence, a deflected shot from the edge of the area should be something you work on. Against the likes of St Mirren you will seldom get enough space for a free shot, but a shot is still worthwhile. Fire in enough of them and you will leave the stadium with a smile as wide as Luke McCowan’s yesterday.
Post-match, Brendan Rodgers said, “I’m fed up talking about transfers. We’ve got until the end of the window. We concentrate on what’s here, a lot of work going on behind the scenes to improve the squad.”
I let his comments to Sky Sports on Friday go; we had a game to prepare for, which some of us take seriously, but we will pick them after we discuss the European draw. Nothing has changed since Friday, though. “A lot of work going on behind the scenes” is not something which somehow appeared over the weekend.

that the players might be waiting on celtic actually qualifying first before signing is too much to comprehend ?
seriously ?
Scottish refs are whistle happy , rarely play advantage and let the game flow. Book players afterwards. Hearts very physical and playing hard for mcinnis , we need to match that. Only real quality I see is Aberdeens Croatian/australian winger , Milanovic. Looks better than Yang.
We are very lucky we have James Forrest I firmly believe.
Everyone agrees we need wingers. Marián Shved is currently at Donetsk and available for a cheap and cheerful €1 million. Surely that would please everyone.
The official schedule on UEFA’s website shows the Hoops will play the first leg at Celtic Park on Wednesday 20 August, before heading away for the return on Tuesday 26 August.
This timing gives Celtic a small boost, with one extra day to recover before their big Premiership match against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday 31 August.

Just started watching today’s ACSOM and they’re discussing fan boycotts. I kid you not.
———————-
Retirement finds me reading and listening to many a celtic blog. I accpet everyone can have their own viewpoint.
One thing is does for me, is give my own understanding of the spectrum of Celtic supporting (allegedly) people who wish to post comments on line.
It kind of reminds me of CQN in the early years. Cant deny this, my own views, Kanos, Delaneys , Noel90 and many others we responded from the heart, loud argumentative, me out of order often to many people. you think you are right and nobody loves the cetic more than yourself.
However 20 years on.
That Celtic blogger experience, it really is full off well, misguided opinion (paid for) and rabble rousing of the worst kind.
You know I like an argument, wont really back down, cannot be intimidated really.
But what is online now , dearie me, they hate , really hate PL, hate CQN, hate anyone associated with it, and hate any central viewpoint .
The boycott patter as they tried to stir it up because we are not spending yet, off the scale – so – i posted this the reaction is a study that Frasier Crane would have a field day.
———————–
Hows that boycott of Celtic and their merchandise going ?
59000 there yesterday, every new strip on show by loads of supporters.
Queses at the shops and the kiosks.
Windfall tickets sold out.
Flag day with many greats in attendnace, both Paul and Fergus.
Absolutely brilliant respectful Tifos to the two fallen lions.
And yet there were calls for boycotts and let the board know how upset you all are that they dont spend “our money”.
Instead not a peep but a very vocal support for the team.
To paraphrase a founder said ” you are as well as trying to stop the flow of Niagra with a kitchen chair as to ask the Celtic support to give up on their team.
Hmmm…..that’s 90 or so minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
1. cries of “the Hertz are coming” seem a bit premature. Typical fare from them – run around like bears wi’ burnt baws for the first 10/15 minutes; fire balls in to the box and hope for the best.
2. it will be very disappointing/worrying if we make heavy weather of the game next Sunday.
Embra hun v northern hun. Didn’t hear their disgusting support singing about child abuse tonight. Scum.
BBC Scotland giving more licence fee money to the huns tomorrow

Imagine we could possibly be waiting to see if we qualify for the CL before we sign any required players . what a dam disgrace , Thems are at least making the effort to get to the top table . And going by Saturdays narrow but deserved win , it is plainly obvious we are badly in need of quality signings , Lawwell and his cronies are taking one helluva gamble not just for the CL but domestic games as well ,we could find it tougher this season .
*actually it was Sunday and how did their effort to get to the top table go on Saturday.
I listened to ACSOM this morning. To be clear they were NOT advocating a boycott.

Bada
No surprise there. Scum subsiding scum.
Tontine Tim .. I stand corrected pal . That’s what retirement does for you , you forget what day it is . I think they will get better , hope not ,but if they keep buying the world it could happen . HH
Well Sevco need the £3 million pounds they shelved out for Antman,Saturday on Sky v Motherwell, tomorrow at Ibrox BBC ,

I did not claim they were “advocating” a boycott. I said they were “discussing fan boycott”.
One guy was complaining that he was at the game on Saturday and that it was a full house with a large amount of new merchandise on display. He was bemoaning how difficult it is to get the support to boycott merchandise and to stop giving the board money.
As per usual, PJ agreed with him, because he never once disagrees with any of his panel if they are being negative and criticising the club.

It is reported in the Netherlands that the Go Ahead Eagles chairman is vastly inflating the fee for Jakob Breum way above his value because his previous club has a sell-on clause on his head and he wants Celtic or any other interested club to cover it.
Someone should tell him that’s not how sell-on clauses work. In fact, maybe that’s exactly what Celtic have told him. Makes a mockery of the age old mantra – Get the finger out Celtic and pay the money.
Tom McLaughlin on 4th August 2025 10:48 pm
Reported that he also has a release clause next year of less than €2m, hence alongside the sell on clause, his current club trying to maximise fee just now.
CELTIC40ME.
Tebbit won’t be spinning in his grave ,he’s currently stinking out the funeral directors. Funeral on Thursday,I will be toasting him making the world a better place by leaving it.

Hope you are well Tam 👍. Fair point but there has to be a point to say , this is getting too convoluted and bye bye, off to the next target!
Saint Stivs
If that is the case then all Brendan has to say is that we have agreements with players ,which are dependent on what level of European competition we qualify for .

The point about blogs being negative or scaremongery is cos they – like the MSM – realise bad news sells.
I do a fair bit of driving and my go-to in-car Celtic blog is Tino’s The Celtic Exchange; I feel it’s about the right balance. Even then, there’s as much fantasy as there is facts but the team pull it off with generally good nature and, of course, affection for the bhoys.
PS: I’m glad OldTim received a fitting send-off, AT.
RIP oldtim67 and thanks to all for sharing.
Born the same year as my Mother who passed some time ago.
Nice to put a face to the name/moniker.
This is what it means to be a Celtic fan.

Get the board out if they’re not backing the manager to keep our successful era going.
They are handing the title to the scum, looking at that squad on Saturday it’s not good enough IMO.
Sunday sorry
Looking at the bbc stats Celtic made 10 defensive tackles and the referee gave 10 fouls against Celtic every tackle was a foul.

Good morning CQN.
Better weather, still a bit blowy.
Hopefully the bhoys can train outside today

Interesting idea.
One question.
“Get the board out” – How?

Wow.
The statistical anomalies have been clear to see for several seasons.
But this takes it to a new level.
Always the possibility that fouls were given in situations where a defensive tackle wasn’t involved.
(I don’t know what constitutes a “defensive tackle” in the Opta world).
Regardless – as a headline to promote (with a factual basis) it is powerful.
10 defensive tackles. 10 fouls awarded.
Boom.
Well I never.Whats this. Some teams trying to get as much as possible for their players.Unspeakable Bounders. You won’t catch Celtic doing that.
Some on here inhabit a different world from others.
Maybe if our club bought before selling our players for big money, other teams would be easier to deal with.
Good morning all.
