Deila and Hutter bedding into their new teams

1385

There are parallels between Salzburg and Celtic.  After an outstanding season Salzburg lost their coach, Roger Schmidt, in May to Bayer Leverkusen, appointing Adolf Hutter (commentators beware), who previously managed Austrian Bundesliga club Grodig and is largely unknown outside Austria.

Unlike Ronny Deila, Hutter has not tried to change Salzburg’s system, but the period of transformation has been blamed for Salzburg failing to overcome Malmo in the Champions League play-off round (Malmo taxed Juventus in Turin last night before two second half Tevez goals settled things).  New instructions, new training techniques and, in some cases, new personnel present challenges.

Ronny has had a few false starts but the return of Scott Brown at the weekend, the return to form of Kris Commons, who will surely start, and the addition of Scepovic, Tonev and Wakaso to the squad give reason for confidence.

Thanks to everyone who signed up to participate in the Great Scottish Run to raise funds for the Foundation in their work with poverty, equality, learning and health.  You can sign up here.

We’ve had over 3,000 responses so far to the survey on Celtic fans, who they are, where they came from, and what their views are.  The results will give an excellent insight into this time in our history.  If you’ve not had a chance to leave your mark yet, please do so here (only your first submission counts).

Whatever the result tomorrow I hope there’s a decent majority either way, 51-49 will not be good for anyone.

    Bang on.

Best for one side to skoosh it.

    Less hassle.

Then back to talking about something dear to me.

    Celtic.

  3. croppybhoy,

I fear you’re correct in the make-up of the SNP folk. They realised that they needed the support of the likes of Sillars to garner the votes of the left leaning working class. I think they have succeeded, while turning a blind eye to the intimidation their appeal to the emotions has unleashed.

I would not be at all surprised if we have a right wing government in Holyrood.

    Auldheid,

Too many on here have very short memories. Imo, Salmond and his crew are only interested in the working class to get their votes. I genuinely fear what a Yes vote will do for Scotland.

  4. ellboy – i am neil lennon, ynwa.

    51 yes is decisive.

51 no and it’s a problem that rumbles on even more than the last generation

  5. Just seen that video of Kay burley, seriously is that what her and sky think, that a yes vote is a vote against England. Suppose that adds credence to the piece by George Monbiot in yesterday’s guardian. How the media shafted the people of Scotland.

  6. croppybhoy

Just admit that you’re batting for the wrong team.

Scotland is a separate country in all but status, tomorrow is the one chance for at least the next 20 years to make that so.

    Let’s no balls it up!

  7. Enjoyable game this Bayern v City match

    Just popped in to say…

When u get to the polling stations the mora please vote with your hearts

    Vote for your freedom

And each and every Scot, together, can build a better and brighter future for yourselves and your children.

If the working class have the majority why do we have a SNP government in Edinburgh?

The SNP will not disappear but will get stronger as more conservative supporters will join them as they are the natural home for right of centre thinking people.

Even the new convert to nationalism Tom Devine can see this

The former industrial working class are being energised by this campaign – once it’s over

Their circumstances will not have materially changed and in a year or two they will see that it’s not really been worth it for them.

They will probably lapse back in to apathy but the job will have been done

Call me cynical but if tomorrow we vote for independence we will be swapping a London elite with an Edinburgh one

    Why restrict it to Rangers?

Why not give Hearts Hibs Dundee Aberdeen etc the chance to join and compete at their proper level.

I don’t want Celtic in a UK league I want all clubs to have the opportunity of playing in one and finding their level with access to similar income streams.

I want what I think is better for Scottish football not just my team.

I think that in looking after all we look after ourselves.

I’m probably traumatised by the wee boy that I played football with as a kid who after my third nutmeg picked up the ball and said “it’s my ball and you’re no playing.”

  11. I know it’s uncomfortable reading if you are in the hopeful NO camp but if you want an indication of future behaviour look at previous.

    Auldheid 2045:-

My view is that governments should not get involved in the governance of football; there are far more important things for governments to concern themselves with such as poverty, unemployment, health etc

It is for the clubs to ensure that the governing body is fit for purpose and in allowing Campbell Ogilvie to be elected unopposed all Scottish clubs, especially Celtic, the club which suffered most as a result of Ogilvie`s undoing, did the sport and its fans a serious disservice.

Ogilvie`s actions, and those of the clubs in re-electing him are nothing to do with the SNP or any other political party.

Lets be clear here – Rangers did not defraud or otherwise pull the wool over Ogilvie`s eyes. He was the man who established the EBTs and signed off all the contracts at Ibrox. And he was the guy who withheld information from the Nimmo Smith enquiry.

Where the SNP or more accurately Alex Salmond got it completely wrong was in getting involved in any shape or form in the Rangers tax case. We do not know what form that involvement took, but I say this – the FOI request that related to Alex Salmond`s meeting with HMRC was blocked by HMRC, a Westminster government department.

I am no apologist for the SNP, I am a traditional Labour voter for what its worth, and I say clearly that the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill is indefensible. It criminalises ordinary football fans at the whim of individual police officers while sectarian Orange Marches are legitimised at great cost to the tax payer. It is unjust and foolish legislation which incidentally was championed at the time by Celtic`s go-to legal eagle Paul McBride.

I think you are wrong in trying to blame the SNP for the SFA`s ills. Why should the Scottish Government devote time and resources to asking questions of the SFA, time and resources that can be spent dealing with poverty etc when Celtic – the club most disadvantaged by the SFA`s ills – are unwilling to challenge the SFA and in fact play a role in the re-election of Ogilvie?

It seems to me that its far easier for you to blame the SNP than to question Celtic`s role in:-

    a) Allowing the OBB to come to pass;

    b) Approving Ogilvie`s corruption by passing him fit for a further term of office in 2013.

  23. So, if it’s a naw and the UK government does not pass the postulated new powers in accordance with the timetable promised, does that mean that we will just go ahead and have another vote at Holyrood? And supposing that’s an overwhelming aye, do we then just go it alone with a unilateral secession? Thoughts?

It’s anything but deciding on our government. That is the last thing this is about.

It’s about dividing up the resources that support the form of the current government to support the form of two separate governments of two separate countries.

What the Government you will elect in an independent Scotland can then do for you will depend totally on the division of resources reached and earning power thereafter of the working population.

A division we have no idea of as things stand.

At least be aware of what you are saying yes to.
