Dembele signs for Celtic

249

Brendan Rodgers first signing for Celtic has been confirmed as striker Moussa Dembele (19), who was out of contract at Fulham. Capped up all French youth levels, Moussa was subject to a £6m bid from Tottenham in January, but Fulham chose to retain the player in their fight for Championship survival.

Sought-after players are seldom available out of contract, and even less-seldom come to Scotland, so this is a bit of a coup for Brendan’s Celtic.

I spent most of the day telling people this one works on paper but that I was concerned at his age. Then I realised he’s a French contemporary of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman (4 weeks older than Moussa). I’ll put my ageism back in its box.

Welcome to Celtic, Moussa, and well done to everyone who pulled the deal together.

  6. Finally a foreign-named summer signing I can actually say I’ve seen play on a handful of ocassions – thought when watching him last season he might be a contender; but considered him out of our price league when I saw his history.

Nice one, Celtic, kid looked a livewire with bags of top-class potential.

Not in the same class as Clit Hill, Joey Bartsimpson or Nico Quaalude, but we’re beggars with a biscuit-tin after all, ain’t that right lurking Hun Monkeys?

  17. 6 feet tall young forward, as I said early on if it’s true ( and it now is) it’s a great piece of business by the club, caps off to DD, PL, and BR, and any others who where involved in the deal, well done you.

  18. Wow what a signing.

2years championship experience at the age of 19, scoring 17 goals last season.

I have been critical of the way our club has done business recently and called a hun in the process.

    Brilliant Celtic, take a bow.

This transfer makes our club stronger and we can only win out of this move.

Just think his value has rocketed without kicking a ball by virtue of a four year contract.

Here’s to a successful future, welcome to CELTIC.

Oddly enough, Moussa has a birthday next month. He’ll turn 20!

And if he bangs in 20 for the hoops . . . can hardly wait!

Dembélé may do the “Sturridge” job for Brendan.

He appears to have the tools for the job.
