Dembele signs for Celtic

249

Brendan Rodgers first signing for Celtic has been confirmed as striker Moussa Dembele (19), who was out of contract at Fulham. Capped up all French youth levels, Moussa was subject to a £6m bid from Tottenham in January, but Fulham chose to retain the player in their fight for Championship survival.

Sought-after players are seldom available out of contract, and even less-seldom come to Scotland, so this is a bit of a coup for Brendan’s Celtic.

I spent most of the day telling people this one works on paper but that I was concerned at his age. Then I realised he’s a French contemporary of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman (4 weeks older than Moussa). I’ll put my ageism back in its box.

Welcome to Celtic, Moussa, and well done to everyone who pulled the deal together.

  1. Aw naw!

Moussa Dembele was born on the 12th of July!

Almost shares a birthday with BMCUW!

When you observe that a 34 year old, rib-tickling trialist gets priority reporting over the actual signing of a highly sought after young striker, I think you would conclude that it is not Tony D who is doing the promoting!

Nevertheless, I take your point. The pages of CQN have many references to what Sevco might or might not do but there have been few mentions of our closest rivals, Aberdeen and Hearts.

    Aye

Well Aberdeen have signed a solid keeper in Alexander. They did get poorer once Ward left for Liverpool. Hertz desperately need to sign a keeper to replace him. Think they have one on trial.

The main aim at both of those clubs is continuity. Maybe, just maybe, you don’t need to sign a new team every year.

I wonder if Paul and Wining captains would consider doing a round up of all the news from other scottish clubs?

I dont buy newspapers and miss reading the news from other teams.

Anything that keeps us from buying newspapers

  4. Spurs mate say they were after Moussa offered 5 Million in December , Palace mate said they were interested expecting 12 Million. Well done Celtic. Moussa Dembele knows who is the greatest football team in the World. What us jokey saying haha. Hail Hail

  5. Like Lenny’s move for McDonald & Holt – they would have made more sense for us than Cole, Scepovic, Kazim-Richards and Cifti and much cheaper into the bargain.

Will Joe Allen’s friendship with BR mean more to him than an EPLwage-packet?

His reputation has been greatly enhanced in the Euros. He has offered so much more on this big stage than any of his England counterparts – he will be in demand. It will be difficult to get him, however Moussa will give us some hope.

I really can’t see GMS, Scott Allan, Johansen, Ambrose, Commons and Bitton as part of BR’s squad – perhaps if sold the money raised could allow the Joe Allen deal to happen?

For the sake of clarity – I want Brendan to be a wonderful success story at Celtic – however there is no getting away from it, his name WILL be on the FA’s shortlist.

“Did brendan play 4-3-3 at Liverpool?

If he did, I’d expect 2 or 3 more strikers in the door. Exciting times.”

    Coolmore,

    I wouldn’t bet on it.

The other 2 in the front 3 aren’t always out and out strikers.

Lalana, ibe, and firminho competed for the 2 places when a 3 was used.

I’m not saying we won’t sign any more strikers but Imo it’ll be for back up

Easy to say now but I don`t think either signing would have been positively received at the time.

Incidentally, I think the criticism of your ` Brendan for England` comment is not that Celtic supporters think the idea impossible but more that they/we feel it is an unnecessary and unhelpful opinion to offer at this positive time. You can see that, can`t you?

You can look into NewsNow for most of the gen on other clubs, if you’re that keen. Paul and the CQN team have plenty on their plate keeping up with what’s happening at CP. IMO.

If Moussa is the standard of player Brendan is aiming for, we don’t need to be too concerned about what our rivals are doing, interesting though it may be to some.

A Euro tie in Gibraltar? Who’d a thunk that a few years ago? We know that the minnows in the CL qualifiers are relatively poor sides but England’s experience v Iceland is a warning for us not to treat them with anything but respect. If we lose in the next round, does that mean we’re out?? (copyright Harry Kane)

  10. I know that most professional footballers are not very intellectual, but how the hell did Harry Kane not know that if you lose a match in the knock out stages, you are out? What were they talking about at team briefings etc? No wonder agents are able to manipulate these young men so easily. It would seem that Moussa’s advisors are not chasing the quick buck but trying to give him the chance to develop. And then they will go for the big bucks, no doubt.

    I blame the schools.
