MOUSSA DEMBELE has failed to make the final cut as French boss Didier Deschamps prepares for a friendly double-header against Colombia and Russia
The Celtic striker was named in the preliminary squad for the games later this month, as CQN reported on Tuesday.
However, he just missed out to Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder who caught the attention of Deschamps when he hammered in two quickfire goals after coming off the substitutes’ bench to wreck Manchester United’s Champions League ambitions at Old Trafford.
Dembele will remain with the Under-21s for the Euro qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Montenegro.
Meanwhile, the Hoops frontman, with four goals in his last three games, has been linked again with Marseille
The 21-year-old’s resurgence following an injury-hit start to the campaign has alerted teams in his homeland.
Marseille were interested last summer, but were frightened off by the asking price of over £20million.
And the champions weren’t interested in the £16million bid from Brighton in the January window while Dembele has made it clear he is happy at Parkhead.
If he continues to pile on the goals in the crucial run-in, it will attract speculation from envious onlookers.
Dembele, with a 32-goal haul last season, has proved he can cope with rumours in the transfer market.
