Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

  1. Tried this few times last night but no luck

Has the sfa replied to celtic statement ?

Apart from banning the scottish henry

  2. Meekings will be found not proven because to do otherwise would have repercussions for SFA and The Dallas Boys.

From their perspective it is as good an outcome as can be expected; the officials saw nothing, the Compliance Officer did his job, the panel displayed common sense and independence and we are out of the cup.

  3. One thing i dont understand about ‘the fix was in’we were cheated’ thing is why didnt They, who ever They are, Wait till the Final,,Cheat us there, more money from Timmy and sorer for Timmy to Take….Just asking…

    ****

Because, had they waited till the final, they may not have had an opportunity.

They took the one that presented itself on Sunday and chose not to award a penalty, a red card and the possibility of Celtic being two up at half time.

Your Devil’s Advocate stance is wearing a bit thin now.

Great article highlighting their SFA/(and in particular Mr Oglivie of brown brogue fames) hypocrisy.

Pity the SMSM have such convenient memories. Their hatred of all things Celtic knows no bounds.

I’m with Ard Macha. Don’t listen, read or purchase any of their products and go out of our way to ensure not to purchase any of the products of those who sponsor them.

Sorry TD but why would a Celtic supporter contribute financially to those whose raison d’être is the humiliation and demise of our club. Their Agenda is clear and we should act accordingly.

Carrying this argument through to its logical conclusion would mean a boycott of SFA competitions and this, I have to say, goes against the grain because I would always want to support the famous Glasgow Celtic. A “selective” boycott such as that suggested by HT could be the answer. It would have to be exceptionally well organised. The alternative of letting these HUN mason bassas continue to cheat our club means passing that legacy that we endured onto our children. Maybe Sunday’s cheating will represent the “line in the sand” having said that I felt that ” Dougiegate” was so how disappointed am I to be writing a similar synopsis.

If you tolerate this then your children will be next.

  7. Most of those involved have agreed on the handball and stated that a penalty should have been given.

If the CO finds that the officals all missed it then Meekings will not play in the final.

Would it not be in ICTs best interest to argue the case that someone was bound to have seen it and the ref overruled it.

This would mean the incident was dealt with during play and Meekings would play in the Final.

Would mean the ref admitting hes a diddy.

So a 10 match ban for Meekings and 10 for Broonie just to even things out

Excellent article today, keep telling the truth and keep stating facts

Keep up the pressure on EBT Ogilvie

ICT could use the SFA famous balance of probabilities that one of the officials must have seen it and the referee overruled but that is not the truth at this moment.

The article by the Record guy whether you like the paper or not is correct.

This is is now Dougie, Dougie terrority and the SFA have made a complete mess of it.

To use this season’s buzz phrase – the balance of probabilities would suggest that a Celtic 2-0 against a 10 man ICT is more likely to win than not.

A pro Celtic article in the record today?

This follows the exclusive PR piece they ran selling our £50 season book increase.

Has there been a discussion between club and tabloid? A change in editorial policy?

They’ve a very long way to go before the daily record gets even an ounce of credibility in my eyes.

  14. Weeminger..so we would have scored the penalty…on the balance of probabilities of course….

  15. Was it just a bad call or very convenient that, not only did it keep Inverness in the game but it has totally overshadowed and took the heat off Doncaster for his match scheduling.

Have you only just starting watching footie?!?!?

Do you know nothing of the flow of the game?

My 10 y/o and I agreed just before Griffiths shot a baby goat in the penalty area thereby blinding the all seeing eye of the official that……..

if we score another now ICTs’ heads will go down. we could go on and score 3 or 4.

but if they do score next, it’s game on.

    t’is the psychology of football.

We lost 3 bad goals – fact.

We created little when down to 10 men – fact

Had we been given a penalty and they’d been reduced to 10 then on the balance of probability we’d likely have lost none of these goals and won comfortably.

But my big ? to you would be. Why are you seeking to focus away from the crime scene of utter incompetence/corruption

  19. The whole FIX was in thing is just nonsense….so if we had have kept the 1-0 lead and won the game i would hate to think what would have happened in the final…. 3 men sent off…4 goals chopped off and at least 5 na 6 pens awarded to Falkirk….gimmie a break…..

How far back do you want to go when talking about the team’s record at penalties?

Should we look at all penalties or only those against ICT?

What is Ryan Esson’s record at saving penalties?

As a general rule, penalties are more often scored than not, so I’ll say yes we would have scored it. I can’t guarantee it, but it’s the more likely of the two outcomes.

Regardless, the balance of probabilities would suggest Celtic at 1-0 up vs a 10-men ICT would be more likely to win the game than not.

  21. Ray Winstone's Big Disembodied Heid on

It’s true that the league can only be won on goal difference after the final game, but if Celtic get another seven points then the league is effectively over, since there is no way the sheep are going to overturn a 26 goal deficit.

Simple as that, and try asking a bookie for a bet on Celtic in such circumstances.

  22. JamesGang….Incompetence…Agreed 100…corruption..from whom?….and IF balance of probability Won football matches….well i’d be a Rich man…

    bgx,

I’m annoyed at myself for taking the trouble to answer you, but here goes.

    Refs don’t score goals.

What the incompetent/dishonest ones do is influence games.

The reason why the more sensible of us can spot it is because we have had years of practice.

The best thing you can say about Mc.Lean is he thought by awarding the pen, he would have to send the guy off and possibly handing Celtic a two goal lead going into half time.

I think we can all agree that would/should have been the case.

    Here comes the mitigation.

In his mind, for the good of the game (c. SFA and acolytes), 1-0 and 11v11 for the second half would make for a better game for the paying/ TV watching public.

    What a guy.

Whatever the motive, it was cheating.

Now, stop being a silly boy and being perverse just for the sake of it.

  24. bgx

Another way to look at it would be they knew it was their last chance to stop us from winning the treble.

  25. NEGANON2…aw ive missed you man…you still looking for proof the ref cheated,,na you aint .youve gave up on that one ….easier to find a labour candidate that will win a seat in SCOTLAND in the G/E…but then again…..

  26. Fergus left us having rebuilt Paradise but in his persuit of Farry he proved that these peepul will do whatever they can to stop us.

  27. Thomthe Tim…..I didnt even get past Refs dont Score Goals…..at least we agree on that….

  28. BGX – unfortunately you can’t prove a negative, so we’ll never get proof that the ref didn’t cheat.

  29. BGX

I’m with you to a certain extent.

There is NO organised conspiracy against Celtic.

McLean was exercising his own bias .

He was pencilled in to take charge of the Celtic v Sevco League cup semi final.

Celtic made it known that he has Sevco leanings.

Paul67 even did an article on here explaining how inappropriate his appointment of that match would be.

Shortly afterwards he was replaced from the fixture and sent on some long standing UEFA

    Ref’s course.

    A convenient excuse .

The boy got his own back.

Then his fellow refs (some of whom also happen to be Ludge members)

Rally round to protect their own.

    Not an organised conspiracy.

But cheating and a cover up just the same.
