Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

    EDWARD URSUS

Like a great many people who only read Saturday’s blog when we’d sobered up,I was shocked at the reaction to your post.

As a Kilwinning lad-as you may remember-the majority of my friends follow your team.

The majority of them are, undoubtedly,a bunch of huns.

    But only in a group……….

Your congratulations were most welcome,as was the sight of your moniker on the blog once more.

    My friends were equally gracious.

There is nothing wrong,IMO,in being a Rangers supporter,it is merely an accident of birth.

There is a slight difference though in how you represent your club-some people on Saturday let us down with their reaction to your post, again IMO.

C’est la vie, double malts on me in The Eglinton or Crown next time I’m home?

Summaofsammi :- You say I’m a hun, fair enough the first post I made on this site was under the name KilwinkieHun so no disagreement on that.

I don’t get the smiling assassin reference so can’t comment on what I don’t ken.

If you disagree with some comment I have made on the Famine song then please let me know what it was and I’ll do my best to explain my thoughts.

I do love football though as I’ve pointed out over the past couple of seasons it’s been at a non senior level where I both spectate and try to help keep youth and amateur teams keep going with my time and money, can you say you do the same for football?

The gritted teeth comment I alluded to earlier, it was a light hearted comment, do you expect me to come on and say I’m ecstatic my teams biggest rivals have lifted the title?

Why should I apologise? I’ve never cheated Celtic or been responsible for any shenanigans that did.

Your last line is a complete non sequiter as I don’t see how you keeping company with a wife beater and rapist reflects on me in any way, I can only imagine it was meant as some kind of insult, if so it has failed. He was your acquaintance not mine.

  4. Hi Edward. Welcome back again.

If you are looking for ice-cream and jelly for the grandkids give me a shout and I will sell you what I have left….. Double what I paid obviously!! :-)

i read an article in either TIME or The Telegraph,I forget which, that said that the average rate of Corporation Tax in the US hovered around 11%.

Sorry if that is obscenely high in your opinion, but people on minimum wage pay more than that.

Of course, they can’t afford well-paid accountants and lawyers who can demonstrate how to take advantage of the incredibly stupid and lax loopholes in the legislation created by,erm,well-paid accountants and lawyers.

    Edward,

The posts i’ve read of yours are more balanced and fair than some i read on here from folks professing to be Celtic fans.

There’s not many of your fellow bluenoses i know would congratulate us on anything so fair play to you.

Looking forward to your continued contributions to the blog.

    Edward Ursus,

You come on this site and leave no one in any doubt where your allegiances lie, you don’t pretend to be something your not.

You come on here (and quite naturally through gritted teeth) compliment Celtic on winning the league, and giving all and sundry a chance to have a pop at you when your team are mince, just lost the title and are up to their neck in financial doo-doo.

Nothing there to suggest you are a hun in my opinion.

On the great “Ban the hun for life/ Welcome back” debate regarding Edward Ursus, can somebody put my name against the ‘welcome back’ column.

  10. Ed.

Hope you are in good health.

Scotland did just that IIRC with WANG in the late 90s.

We built them a state of the art production facility, free of charge, tax credits into the bargain, and they reneged at the last minute,

    No cost to them.

    Cost to us?

Nearly enough to bail out the huns.

Your version of capitalism seems to be somewhat one-way,in the final analysis,a little like Thatcher’s trickle-down theory.

I was very pleased to see the red card protest by the huns because now it allows our support to continually wave red cards to remind the huns of the protest when (and you can bet they will) Newco gets established with their silly five stars on the shirt among some other embroidered show of their history still being a part of them.

The red card protest at the weekend puts to bed any notion or argument of their history carrying on,why else are they admitting liquidation is a bad thing?

Red cards? Hahahaha now shut yer gubs about yer history if your liquidated!

    An excuse to repost this.

What I find truly amazing about the Rangers situation is that we have one of the biggest scandals to hit Scottish football and no one is taking responsibility. Its like pass the blame parcel.

As Winston Churchill might have put it. ‘Never in the history of fiscal flim flammery has so little been known about so much by so many’.

What’s the chances of them incorporating the 5 stars into their new phoenix badge? Surely they wouldn’t have the brass neck for such a thing? Then again…………

I just had a look at some images there from Poundland at the weekend, capturing the red card protest.

IGNORE US AT YOUR PERIL and SINK US AND WE’LL SINK YOU are two of the messages on display.

I mean, you’ve got to laugh at the menacing tone. Do these jokers actually think they are in any position to call the shots?

  25. Ed

I.too, welcome your comments on this site so take this post in that spirit.

You said : ” I am not responsible for Rangers signing policy between WW1 and Mr Johnstn nor am I responsible for the financial mismanagement and chicanery that has taken place at Ibrox in recent years so although a few folk asked I won’t apologise for either.”

Correct. You are, however, responsible for supporting the Club which dedided on those policies. Yes?

    JJ

  26. Red card for liquidation was a preposterous protest. What did they really mean? Down with that sort of thing! Bad liquidation, bad! Did Duffer and Phelps, or any of the hundred thousand potential buyers really watch that and think ‘blimey, the peasants are revolting – best not liquidate- they’ll red card us!’

It’s not just schadenfreude you know – I just keep laughing at them.
