Den Bosch and Janko in town, clogs to clogs

878

My expectation is Den Bosch will be better than an equivalent second-tier Scottish team (any of whom would give us a game on a summer evening like tonight), so they will hopefully present a suitable challenge to help stretch the legs.

Most attention will focus on Dedryck Boyata, but no matter if he looks great, or lousy, you will learn nothing of his abilities tonight. For Dedryck the objective is to get the limbs and lungs moving, just as with his new team-mates.

I hear Saidy Janko (19) was spotted walking into Ross Hall Hospital this morning.  Although known as a right back, Saidy can apparently play right side of central midfield and as a winger.  While he’ll be the fourth right back in the first team squad, positional definitions aren’t what they used to be.  At Celtic in particular, there’s often little difference between a full back and a winger (the former can hopefully tackle, the latter, less so).  They both have a responsibility to make runs into the opposition box, and to track back and defend.

Reports this morning that Dundee United have agreed a £1m fee for Nadir Ciftci with Gary Caldwell’s Wigan will be more palatable to United fans than seeing another player agree terms with direct rivals Celtic.  The fee agreed is within Celtic’s grasp, should they be sufficiently motivated to move for the player.  After a rising through the ranks, Wigan have endured two relegations in recent years.

They still have Premier League parachute payments coming in, which explains the seven figure bid.  It remains to be seen what Dave Whelan’s 23-year-old grandson makes of the opportunity, now he’s in day-to-day control.  There’s an old Dutch proverb about families with money going from clogs and back to clogs within three generations.

So is the Nadir Ciftci debate a continuation of the Leigh Griffiths debate or is this a completely new debate? After knocking back Wigan I can see him signing for Celtic and becoming a leggend.

As regards St Mirren fans complaining about us financing them it must be the first feckin time in the history of the planet that Paisley folk have complained about receiving money!! Paisley is not known as being the epicentre of short arms and deep pockets for nothing.

Not at all, he’s 29 and has lots of experience. He’s a very skilful player and adds more to the team.

I was a tad surprised at Paul67 endorsing the Android boxes because it potentially takes money from Celtic via Celtic TV.

WE dont seem to be moving on the dead wood from Celtic park while we may well be unhappy that we currently have brought in only one new player it is worth remembering that its easier to sign a dud than to a sign quality we have plenty of practice at signing duds. H.H.

  15. 2008 was Aiden’s Annus Mirabilis. He seemed to have had an injection of pace.

Barca triple teamed him in the home leg 2-3 defeat in the EC last 16.

2008/9 and 09/10 were seasons best forgotten by Celtic – the era of honest mistakes. Was the former, the one where he had the bust-up with WGS ?

I’ve only seen him since in bits and pieces for Ireland and he hasn’t convinced.

Still, he’s a better class of player than we could afford, otherwise.

You’d have to think it odd we would have Janko, Matthews, Fisher, and Lustig all in the Celtic squad for the start of the season and with Adam Matthews running out of contract he must be favourite, for the revolving door. I just don’t think we’d have four players to fill one slot, and there has been no mention of Adam getting a new deal, so I’d expect a return south for the Welshman.

Janko and Fisher will be the main contenders and we’ll be in a similar situation next season when Mikel Lustig’s contract runs down, barring a miracle, he’s unlikely to be offered a new contract.

If Celtic want Nadir Ciftci, enough I’m sure we’ll get him despite SMSM willing him to Wigan. The Dundee Utd striker is only half the price of Balde, or Pukki so it’ll suit us to persue his signature in a straight fight between Ronny and ex Celtic legend Heid, the Wigan supremo.

  19. After giving up Janko last wek my latest info is that Ciftci is very much on the radar but RD would much prefer Fletcher, wages being the stumbling block. Halstenberg is also wanted by RD.

I’m hearing that Boeriggter will be given game time tonight with the hope that someone is daft enough to take him off us, thats if he doesn’t get injured.

    Off to Paisley

For anyone travelling by train tonight the nearest station to St Mirren Park is Paisley St james virtually next door to the ground-on the Gourock/Wemyss bay line-only thing is these only run stopping at this station every 30 mins..next stop after is BIshopton.

Maybe consider getting off at Paisley Gilmour Street as you will also pick up more trains at Glasgow central every 15mins trains which are heading to Ayr/Largs/Ardrossan and its 15min walk from there[Paisley no Ayr!].HH

    hope this helps

    Here you !!!

  22. I for one hope we sign Ciftci

A good pre season under Ronny playing with better players and adhering to a strict fitness schedule should have him as fit and as sharp as he has been with DU

He knows the Scottish game and understands how big Celtic are unlike other players we could sign who arrive with one eye on getting a big money move to the EPL.

It wouldnt take long for him to settle in and if he does hit the ground running we have a technically very good striker who with the added confidence could be a big player for us

Its low risk imo with the potential to be a very good piece of business
