Denayer set for Galatasaray

552

Manchester City central player, Jason Denayer, will join Galatasaray before tomorrow’s transfer deadline. The central defender was on Celtic’s radar after the injury to Rivaldo Coetzee, and all other things being equal, I believe the player would be happy to head back to Celtic, where he played season 2014-15, but City are set to conclude the deal with the Turkish club.

Celtic will soon have Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko back from injury, while Jozo Simunovic was rested for recent games on plastic pitches, but is available for selection alongside 19-year-old Kris Ajer.

With three senior central defenders already at the club, plus one development prospect, I believe City were concerned that Jason would not have seen the development opportunities he enjoyed at Celtic first time around.

Remember when we signed Boruc, was a loan and then during the season we made it permanent! Could the same happen with Paddy…Mmmm.

Posted same last week LB, gives us time to sort the Fulham end out.

  2. MIT, on your last point, with holding money is the only leverage we have, gotta disagree again, sorry, as shareholders we have leverage. I know Res12 has been a long drawn out process, but it has had an effect.

  3. Nothing on PSG twitter, nothing on l’Equipe.

What’s the source of the Odsonne news?

  4. mike in toronto on

Doc .. not perfect, I realize, but had it been done at the time, it would have been much more effective … as I have said, we would never have had to actually do it … the threat of enough people refusing to renew seasons tickets, CelticTV, etc. … would have forced the Board’s hand, I believe, before it actually got to the stage of an actual boycott …

plus, from what I can see (based on the available evidence) that doing what we are doing has produced no results after 6 years … what is the old definition of insanity? doing the same thing, and expecting different results…

  5. Lequipe.fr says Edouard Odsonne ‘was the subject of a number of enquiries, notably from Spain.’

And with a possible £8 million to come from VVD deal…:)

  7. Reported by Le Parisien , Celtic Glasgow’s interest in the young PSG striker Odsonne Edouard (19) will be realized in the coming hours. The European champion U17, loaned last year to TFC, will experience his first experience abroad. The PSG and the Scottish club have agreed on a loan with a call option. Edouard was the subject of many solicitations, notably in Spain.

  9. MIT, I suppose, to an extent the summer of 2012 helps your point, the threat of non renewal paid dividends, that’s true enough.

But Kev’s idea of emptying CP grates a lot, don’t think it would work, nor would it be appropriate now.

I don’t see why this would help anyone, never mind help bring better players to CP.

Particularly as there seems no specific objective other than Board change, again, why?

Who would do a better job? Could a better job be done?

  11. Bhoys as I see it we have added 2 x first team regulars in Oliver N & Paddy R (sadly PR a loan deal only), 1 x squad player in Johnny H and one for the development squad in Kundai B. None of these signings address our immediate needs – a quality CH to partner Jozo, (Dedryck B for me would be 3rd choice if fit) and a back up striker for our injury prone forwards. Its not that we have not known about our weaknesses for some amount of time.

Hoping for an exciting finale to the transfer window for us but sadly think all our business is done. ‘Willo groundhog day’

PS – Trying to sign Jason last minute smacks a bit of desperation imo (he was rank rotten at Sunderland and for Belgium -not the same player without VVD – again imo)

    Against them ……doh

UEFA rules don’t let them stop him playing, hence Paddy last year with Man City

  15. There will be dozens of players we could sign but Brendan won’t want any waste-of-money signings on his CV or as part of his legacy.

Too many people think it’s like playing a computer game when signing players.

Lastly, the only game that Ajer looked a bit average so far was playing in Asia on an astroturf pitch with a midfielder as a partner-funny enough the exact opposite of Jason Denayer looking good playing beside a Rolls Royce.

My point being_ we could have signed Ash Taylor or Grant Hanley but what’s the point?

Doc …. in general, Boards and CEO’s have limited shelf-lifes. ours has passed its a long time ago.

do I believe our Board needs cleaned out? Absolutely. Do I think they have done a bad job? No. do I think they have done a good job? No.

My issues with the Board are two fold:

    1. is the lack of communication with, and respect accorded to, the fans and shareholders.

    2. I hate to think it, but, based on my years as counsel, I cannot see any way the present situation was allowed to happen without our Board’s knowledge and (tacit) approval ….

    and that, I cannot forgive.

  18. Lisbon Lions Upper on

Signing a centre half is easy. If all you want to do is sign a centre half.

However, if you want to sign a centre half at least as good as the three you already have, tbar you can afford when the market has lost all its senses, now that’s trickier.

Spurs just sold a reserve centre half to stoke, who made 5 appearances for them. For £18 million. It’s all mad.

  19. Stairheedrammy on

If we don’t sign a unicorn, some rocking horse doo doo, a couple of hens teeth, some tartan paint and a rangers tax receipt then this will have been a poor transfer window.

  20. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Here’s a fact for all the TV viewers on CQN. Dedryck is our manager’s first choice centre-back, I’m my opinion.

  21. Oglach

    Bit half empty fella.

As I see it, Hayes in to help provide very good back up to Sinclair and upgrade on GMS, Paddy back when lots said he wouldn’t and closer to perm, NCham an upgrade on Armstrong, Eboue a shoe-in for Scott Brown, the PSG fella an upgrade on Cifci and succession to Dembele maybe and Coetzee would have been a left sided player to help centre half and left back. Think we may get 1 of these tomorrow or wait for the SA in January…

Looks to me like priorities being addressed. If we choose to see that.

Think into next year priorities may move to goalkeeper and RB….

  22. Goooood Evening CQN :-)

Heard it all now, Doc the Trumpet who has started his own bhoycott, giving MiT ( should u not be working) a lecture :-)))))

Now only a personal opinion – and there is still 27hrs of the transfer window, to pick up someone who fails to make the cut of squads of some of the big money clubs ( they ain’t big, just have big money)

If we retain Jozo, Erik and Dedryck, plus we have young Kristoff and another to consider Jamie McCart ( who played well on loan at Inverness), plus Nir, who can all cover CH roles, we do not need another CH – note , for FtSPFL

The issue is current and injuries to Erik and Dedryck, leaving us exposed for Europe, so may have some short term pain

Now, if any of Jozo, Erik or Dedryck were to be sold, we need to be buying better ???

Someone posted earlier we could be looking at Legia Warsaw CH – Poland is a decent Market as is Croatia, Bosnia etc, big solid CH’s with a bit of skill there, instead of an inflated England.

    Watch this space :-)))

  24. MIT, agreed the Board have let the fans down too often, and deserve criticism for this, which I give.

I can think of many circumstances in which this came about without intervention by the Board.

Firstly, whose responsibility was good governance of the game? Not the Board at Celtics.

Whose responsibility was it to Aberdeen ply rules? Not the Board at Celtic.

Whose responsibility was it to set up the LNS enquiry and give it a remit? Not the Board at Celtic.

The legal process had to be seen to have gone through all possible routes, that has happened and Celtic have called for a review.

I understand and share the frustrations here.

I just think we should aim our ire at those more deserving of it.

Namely the SFA and SPL/SPFL, reform there is much more important to me. Actually not reform, deconstruct and begin again.

Be wary of the bold JamesGang btw, he takes empty legs to the pub and fills them with beer before anyone can notice he has had a drink!

    :-)
