Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

  1. I fear that putting the inquest on hold allows the chances at our club breathing space they don’t deserve. This lot could lose the league.

    You acknowledge non-triers.

Should we clap like seals for non- triers? A non trier is a fraud. He insults the Celtic support and the people who pay his over inflated wages.

How should we should treat them ?

Timalloy, thank you for your post, can you please give me some hope, what have you seen in the past months and weeks that would make you believe this manager (and his team) have what is takes to win this league?

  4. Tamrabam…..”no doubt the idiots who bought into the whole ronny vision rubbish”

    Classy stuff.

I’m sure the copy and paste merchants for FF are having a field day.

Anyway, I bought into the vision – thought we needed a modern European approach in the face of a declining market and hoped with Ronny we’d taken a step in that direction. Knew nothing about him but knew nothing about Wim or Neil Lennon as manager. Worried that the reactionaries will take us back to a limited british manager with all the old fashioned baggage that comes with it.

Hope we keep with the vision.

This pathetic season is a consequence of putting personal profit before the team.

And it seems that everybody and anybody is to blame…but not PL and the board.

This is how out of touch some of the dinosaurs are….its ridiculous.

They are running Celtic like fecking idiots.

I cannot believe some are still defending that tragedy last night….fecking wake up.

If i was PL or RD….id have done the decent thing….long ago.

You are correct that the fans from last night were the diehards, the hardcore. Not the so called glory hunters. If they have a problem they are damn well entitled to have an opinion.

They didn’t bring Ronny, they didn’t sign cole and and all the other uselsss strikers

They didn’t decided to play one up front

And I tell you another thing, since we have a budget is as much as all our current competitors combined, its not unreasonable to think we should be winning comfortably.

Don’t know what the rest of you think, but whose idea was it to put wee Patrick Roberts out for today’s press conf?

They’ve sent a kid out one who joined the group only 4 weeks ago, and who made his first start last night in a match in which the older players didn’t turn up, and they’ve sent out the wee guy in front of a press pack who need no invitation to tear strips off Celtic?

    Where’s the leadership?

The lack of camaraderie on the bench is very notable and it has always been so. Since Ronnies arrival.

Ronny hanging his players out to dry has happened to many times to this well below average Celtic squad.

Peter lying to their mates and colleagues and hanging them out to dry has happened too many times for this well below average Celtic squad for them to give a tuppeny suck.

The continual undermining of the players work domestically by the mibs has happened too many times for this well below average squad to give a tuppeny suck.

Cleary for the PLC it is all about the money so why shouldn´t the players think that way ?

  15. He’s a dead parrot, and I’ve been saying it since he blew the Maribor CL qualification with the dumbest half-time substitution ever seen in europe – going 4-2-4 in a game we didn’t even have to win.

The mask slipped right then, he managed to fix it up for a month last year to give Inter a game but around that? Stumbling to victories, competent at best, shambolic mostly, no focus or purpose about a squad drained of belief, players unsure why they’re dropped/picked/praised/criticised.

There’s been a LOT of theory, of which NONE has manifested on the park.

Idiots like me end up frowning at the formation, hesitant and a little apprehensive of pointing out what may be the bloody obvious, wondering if there’s sometihng I’m not seeing- if the tactical genius at the helm has a trick up his sleeve – but alas, no – even an idiot fan like me actually sees the glaring tactical errors which are allowing lesser teams to comfortably counter anything we throw at them.

Which is usually just the one consistent ineffective tactical set-up, hoping the opposition has an off night.

Tony Gale – cockerny wank – covering Man U-Arsenal for SSN on Sunday said of Arsenal’s tactics (paraphrased) – ‘they know Man U are going to sit deep and defend from their own box, so why just play a little guy up front (Walcott) on his own against four defenders, it’s too easy for Man U. Everyone knows you need to play a big guy up there too – give the team someone to play off and give the defence something to deal with. It’s simple stuff, eveyone knows that…’

He shook his head, incredulous. Even tony Gale , cockerny wank, decent former player, sees the bloody obvious.

We do it every week, ‘cos Barca do it, don’t they?’

    Aaaaye…

Reasons for optimism? Reasons to believe Ronny can do it?

    1. He’s already won the double last season. We won the title with 92 points compared to Aberdeens 75

    2. After the same amount of games last season we had 66 points. This season we have 63. Aberdeen had 59 points this time last season and this time they have 61.

    3. We won the league by 17 points last season. We have a much better goal difference. Which means there will need to be an 18 point swing between us and the sheep. Do you honestly see that happening?

    4. Ronny played Rogic, Mulgrew and Brown when they were all struggling to find fitness. It was a mistake but at least they will be better prepared for the weekend.

    5. We have a bigger squad with more options. We only have 1 player we can’t afford to lose and that’s Griffiths. Aberdeen have 4 or 5.

Has there been much improvement this season? Nothing I can point to no.

Is Ronny the man to take us to the next level? Maybe. It’s a hard sell right now but wait til May.

Is this season remarkably different to last year? No. We have similar inconsistencies but we’re still good enough to do the double.

Wee question about Henrik. Does he have the personality ? I always felt he was so focussed he seemed almost an introvert.

  21. mullet and co 2 on

Sorry state we are in and reminds me of so many other scenarios prior to a managerial change.

If people want to boo a player on many thousands of pounds per week because he isn’t committed so be it. It’s juvenile and speaks about them but they pay their season books and are entitled to let one of the egos know their opinion.

Many people take the blog leaders to be a propaganda machine for Peter lawwell. Not without evidence I have to say as one particular blog had P67 pressing the book on money ball into The hands of the operational leader.

There are other blogs revealing the nature of our transfer policy, blogs on the managerial position around Deilas appointment also key.

If you can stretch your imagination that this blog is an organ for Celtic to tell their truth then it follows that this article reveals the current thinking.

Moreover, we were asked to wait till the end of he transfer window in January. We waited.

Now we must wait until the Summer? We wait and the managerial merry go round of hapless japes will start all over again with Dermot pursuing anyone willing to meet him on a golf course with a connection to Ireland, meanwhile Lawwell goes off on a fantasy with punts he favours. Who knows what major shareholder sponsors Lawwell with this but it’s not Dermot Desmond.

It has already been decreed that Ronny will go in he summer. We will pay up the ray of his contract in due course and appoint another.

My guess is we haven’t appointed anyone yet and are reluctant to let Ronny go to damage limit the response from the media on what they would spin as panic. Ronny is a nice guy so he gets to serve his gardening leave while still popping into the house now and then to show some interest.

This is a calamity again. We MIGHT get lucky as with Gordon Strachan but we could end up with Lawwell backed kamikaze management.

We will win the league as Celtic but it will be a boring whimpering limp over the line played out as a public spectacle in front of enthralled onlookers. Do we want to win the league? Proposterous to answer that question.

It must hurt the board that the support aren’t as daft as they think they are. Years of calamity dressed up as nouvea innovative thinking resulting in Celtic limping over the finish line in front of a workman Aberdeen side.

Just treat the club like a football club instead of a kids chemistry set and we should be ok and we can draw a line under this pish.

  22. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

It took Ronny 5 years to win the Norwegian league. That is FAR too poor a record to be considered as a Celtic manager and I said so at the time. The level of improvement was a squirrels baw hair most years and WAS not year upon year improvement. It is a PLC vanity project. Maximise revenue while equalizing the Old Firm. None of you were prepared to listen.
