Developing Paulo

105

Portuguese international football is on a high at the moment, after winning the Nations League Final against Spain earlier this month.  The country has enjoyed a decades-long prodigious run of producing tier-one level talent.

All this makes Paulo Bernardo’s role as vice-captain in the European Under-21 Championship all the more interesting.  Although Paulo is 23, eligibility for the tournament depends on your age when the qualification tournament started, so from 23-year-olds can participate.

Paulo’s development took a backseat to that of Arne Engels last term.  The club had just paid £11m for Arne, so he was always going to get the nod.  Still, Paulo’s talent and ability to produce in big games has been evident to Celtic fans since 2023.  We paid £6m and need to make sure his development does not suffer again.

Portugal Under-21s face Georgia tonight, hopefully Paulo builds on his scoring performance last time against Poland.

A EuroMillions jackpot of €250m (£213m) has been won by a ticket holder in Ireland, the Irish National Lottery has said.

This is said to be the largest ever EuroMillions jackpot to be won in Ireland.

    The winning numbers are 13, 22, 23, 44, 49, Lucky Stars 3 and 5.

National Lottery CEO Cian Murphy advised players to check their tickets carefully, saying they will reveal the winning location as soon as they can.

  2. SCULLYBHOY,

WhenJoe took to the pitch, you just knew he would score. He’s the finest goalscorer I have had the pleasure to watch in a Celtic jersey bar none.

  5. NOT A TIP…Just an observation…

Young Irish Trainer Joseph O’ Brien ( Son of the Legend AIDEN O’BRIEN ), has a Horse running Today in the 5.00 Race at ASCOT.

The Horse is called ” THE LIFFEY”, and APPARENTLY the Bookies are running scared as this Horse was 100/1 a few weeks/Days ago, it is now Priced at around 8/1 this morning.

Josephs O’Briens Horses ran very well at ASCOT Yesterday with Three or Four being PLACED. I’m too lazy to check back on how many exactly were placed.

I’ve got a wee EACH WAY Stake on the Horse Today with the Bookies.

    Fingers crossed.

    HH.

    Good morning CQN.

Big Jimmy – what odds did you get on The Liffey?

  7. ASCOT Races..

I meant to add in my previous Post that the Horse ” THE LIFFEY” is running in a HANDICAP Race with more than 20 runners.

This means that IF you back it EACH WAY and it gets a Place….then depending on what Bookie your with, you will certainly get paid out on 4th Place…and some Bookies MAY pay out if the Horse finishes 5th or 6th ?

    Best of luck.

I only read about it this morning in the Racing Post, so I only got 8/1 with Ladbrokes.

  9. Big day for our Glasgow rivals.

Not much between the potential ties.

    Panathinikos Brann or Servette

    All winnable

    All banana skins

I would rather they had home legs first in late July.

Probably prefer them playing Brann mid season.

  10. Well done Big Jimmy. Would you be interested in investing some of my retirement pot on the horses for me please? 😅

  11. CELTS are here:

Paulo Bernardo has written his name into the record books with Portugal’s U21s at the European Championships, becoming the most capped player in the history of the national youth setup.

The Celtic midfielder, currently on international duty, made his 31st appearance at this level during a dominant 4-0 win over Georgia, helping his side finish top of their group ahead of France on goal difference. It follows on from his goal against Poland earlier in the tournament – a performance that saw him equal the previous cap record held by Manuel Fernandes since 2008.

Now, with that milestone surpassed, Bernardo stands alone as the most experienced player in the history of Portugal’s U21 side. His performances throughout the group stages have underlined why he’s held in such high regard back home in the youth setup.

Portugal, unbeaten and brimming with confidence, are among the favourites heading into the knockout stages. Bernardo, with the captain’s armband, could be key in the country’s pursuit of the trophy.

A racist stuck in a bubble long gone.

  14. We’ve certainly had some brilliant signings from Motherwell over the years. As well as Joe, there was Dixie and Brian Mclair. A few others too.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of any real failures.
