There is no point blaming a player you paid £6m for, for not delivering. It’s better to look at the process which brought him to the club.
In signing a player who has already had a season in the EPL, you indicate that you’ve decided not to pursue the development strategy previously in place. More evident of this exists, as you know.
Developing players is not easy, not everyone is up for it. Spending £6m on players you hope are already developed isn’t an easy route to success either.

Surely not
Looks like it:)
If we sold Trusty this summer we would get the money back, or, make a profit, he would not be sold at a loss.
I think we are now operating at a level were, if we want to, we cut players loose and still make a profit because of where we have bought them from.
There is still room for the odd project, but, most of them don’t make a buck, por cierto.
Trusty has looked a good player in some games, I would cut him a bit of slack,Scottish football is a strange animal, sure he needs to punch his weight and be more prepared for physical challenges from every opponent, having said that I think Scales might get the jersey now.

Pair of old duffers.
Trusty is an excellent CB with all the attributes to be a success. He’ll prove it given time.
TJ
Rodger’s needs to get the left side of our team stronger.left back, another Centre back or give Nawrocki a start possibly on Saturday v Kilmarnock.
Auston Trusty is 1.9Metres
Going to Lisbon next weekend, any tips re getting to the stadium, bars ,restaurants, things to do, where to see Dundee game ,etc. are more than welcome

Including yourself, that would be a prile of old duffers.
Priile obviously beats a pair.
Probably wouldn’t brag on that hand though.
This is a bit harsh.
The manger has shown he is perfectly willing to take on projects and (hopefully) develop them.
However, projects should not cost £11m.

Put yer specs on.🤣

Train along the coast followed by a bit of a walk gets you to the stadium quite easily.
Ask someone at reception desk in your hotel. They are all well used to Celtic supporters asking for directions.
Bada
Watch hoops in O Gilins its down near station.
Get a train to stadium BUT dont do what i did let my bhoy do directions we walked along a motorway for what seemed like miles in mid day heat….. We got there but back door so to speak. Couldnt get in
Walk through a park past a sports centre to front door :-)
Use UBER if in doubt cheap.
What i would say is Lisbon for drink and food is a bit dearer than most European cities i have been in
excluding obvious Paris London etc dearer than say Madrid.
Sounds like we made a huge mistake signing £6m Carter Vickers……..
Sounds like we made a huge mistake signing £6m Carter Vickers……..after a season on loan👍
Bada,
Went last March. Excellent experience. I took a long winded way to get to the stadium but
Make sure you enter the stadium at the entrance near the swimming baths.
It looks very ordinary when you walk up but you will soon see the plaque on the wall in the yard.

I don’t know Paul personally.
Never met him … although indirect messages have been exchanged in view of a crowd for c. 20 years. 😉
This article feels a little bit like doubling down on the previous one.
IMHO, I don’t think this is a binary issue.
I think the club executives (including you know who) believe we should develop talent.
I think Brendan Rodgers believes he should, and can, develop talent.
If a disagreement exists? … I firmly believe it centres around the acceptable baseline level of capability of an incoming player …
… that it is reasonable to expect the manager to then “develop”
… while simultaneously winning stuff and improving the team overall.
I suspect the manager previously had limited ownership of that “acceptable baseline level of capability” agenda.
And I suspect that changed last season kicking off with
Tillo – NO !
Kwon – NO !
.. and working up the list from there.

From the last thread you believe the board is being negligent, can you explain why?
I too think BR wants to work with better raw material, which if it isn’t coming from the Academy, yes that place again, we need to go out and buy, but they also need grit to play here. Where are these graduates from the Academy it looks a complete waste of time and money, we should just scout big clubs academies because we do not benefit from our own, Forrest who had horendous hamstring issues for many years, Tierney who played a couple of years of first team football and McGregor who is in his 30’s and is struggling now are the exceptions, is that value for the cost of an Academy?
A meltdown over a draw at Dens that ultimately put you 13 points clear puts the hun meltdown into perspective I think.

Yet again I hear the sound ……of distant drums.
The refrain of a song which never ends, but only because the needle got stuck
But that is a different meaning of the word, as a noun, the verb is more appropriate here.
For years Celtic supporters have seen dozens upon dozens of players arrive some from distant parts to be “developed” most no better than players in our youth teams. They make little or no contribution or perhaps a little cameo where they manage to control the ball momentarily, and we think, ‘there is a player in there’, just before they fall over, and we realise, ‘no there isnt’.
And so it goes. Players with names not unlike Timothee Chalamet arrive, a complete unknown…
And then they leave…….even less well known than when they arrived…

I do not know quite what to make of the blog headers lately.
Or the comments.
Brendan is a dud because big centre backs get out muscled on the touchline.
Dearie me.
God forbid we lose tomorrow.

In my experience ( both in large corporate and private companies over about 40 years ) businesses tend to operate better with proper structure / strategy / processes and have appropriate safeguards in place to protect them from exposure to individuals.
Whether it is PL or BR or DM or DA at rangers or whoever …lack of these structures around these individuals can lead to real damage to the businesses.

We are in a strong position right now. Stronger than ever in my 60 plus years as a supporter actually. We are there through having some of what I said above but not all.
We are there because of an abject failure across the city. They are forced to take their medicine now. They don’t like it but it is already showing a wee green shoot or two in terms of potential.
We appear to be doing the opposite and allowing a very different approach.

It may take weeks or months this or years but the reality is that it will balance out over time. Their market cap should be close to ours. Personally I would rather not let them anywhere near us by scoring ‘own goals’ for short term endorphin boosts and manager ego / board payouts.

Celtic plc has a small turnover,it is a small company with high expectations of its supporters, positions are filled on the Executive and Non Exec boards by appointment, what structures allow or would prevent that to get the best person? Cash has been stockpiled for the season/s we do not make the Champions League, our Academy does not produce enough Players for the 1 st team, that isn’t good value, if you were an apprentice for any trade or even a graduate trainee in an Accountancy firm and dont have the skills application to make it you would be fired, why are we abysmal at developing players who can play for the first team against mostly journeymen teams, our lot when they reach 18 leave for pastures new and more money and or first team chances, the academy is a complete waste of money, what has Darren Odea put in place to keep our best graduates who can play for the 1st team, we now hear that Cummings is being looked at by PL teams is he so bad that he cannot go say to a league 1 team in England to become a professional footballer while under contract to us,what work has been done by Celtic to build that pathway, that should be our development pathway, Doak is being quoted at 15m having jumped ship to go to Liverpool. this Academy requires a pathway first and foremost while protecting the club that has developed them, 600k devolpment fees dont make the slightest difference to Celtic.

100% spot on
Rodgers is developing Scales Engels Kuhn and Bernardo. And by god is he persevering with Yang.
Paul never talks about the tens of millions that have been wasted on projects under various managers, I expect he is still hurting from last summers scattergun approach shambles. Some of those players have moved on and none have set the world alight. Lagerbielke can’t get a game for twente and he was Proppers replacement ffs. Kwon is a Hibs player at best and not even a first pick. Tilio we will never see again, Holm is away and doubt he will be back.
So yep, he will develop but they need to have a base level to be a Celtic player
Think Brendan’s did quite well in his second spell despite his complex rebuilding and dismantling process, including,
Holm – Loaned away
Tilio – Loaned away
Kwon – Loaned away
Lagerbielke – (£3M) Loaned away
Nawrocki – (£4.3M) Loaned away ( if only )
Palma £3M
Auston Trusty is an obvious ‘upgrade’ with little difference in fee compared with Nawrocki or Lagerbielke
Not too shabby considering he won a double last season, and secured the first trophy of this season, established a 13 point gap in the league, and improved in Europe.
He’s more than fulfilled his remit, let’s hope he continues to get the backing of ‘the board’ especially given their huge accumulation of financial profit banked.
Brendan knows more about motivating footballers than I ever will and he sees him every day so understands the player better than anyone but I can’t understand what he’s doing with Trusty.
He mouthed as clear as crystal “effing weak as pish” after the goal we conceded from the corner on Tuesday. I thought it might have described the defence at the time but he repeated it in as many words about Trusty after the game. What’s the idea? He hooked him at half time in the cup final when it seemed like we needed a better passing option, benched him for the game at Ibrox.
I thought, think he’s a better defensive option than scales, he’s always looked stronger, more assured, pacier and more reliable than Scales but with poorer distribution but it looks like Brendan doesnt trust him any more.
He was signed for the reasons above, if Brendan really does think he’s as weak as pish then why are we discovering this now after spending 6m on an experienced defender? We can’t afford to make those sort of expensive errors on players who we sign for the first team and who will not have any sell on value. If he had one before Brendan’s comments took millions off it on Tuesday
A player with that much exposure should not be showing such big flaws after six months
Bada Bing
Train to Cruz Quebrada station, about five stops.. Its right on the beach and like something out of a Spaghetti western. The mile walk up to the stadium is just magical, when you see the floodlights.

There’s a risk with signing Nawrockis who we agent able to scout extensively, but the upside is that at the age we sign them we can develop them into better players who either stay or get the sort of exposure they didn’t have and come to the attention of clubs from big leagues
That isn’t the case with Trusty. The risk is smaller, we’re able to scout them extensively, they’re a known quantity. They cost more, but have very little developments in them.
They should be low risk low downside lower upside signings. They’ll never be either an O’Riley or a Kwon. Here’s space for them but at 6m and big wages and with no sell-on value they need to make a big inpact. It appears, at the moment that someone messed up
A six foot four , internationally capped defender coming from the EPL championship should know exactly what the physical side of the game is all about . Very strange . Makes me wonder if he’s fully fit .
He gave Ross Co. perhaps their best chance at Dingwall by miscontrolling a simple ball in his own 6 yard box and has had a few similar scary moments .
It would be hypocritical to not add that signing footballers is one of the most difficult parts of the job for football departments. But that means you need to use every thing available to make better decisions
15.5m for Trusty and Idah who we would have had a good look at is pretty poor work
Is Trusty the new er James Forrest?
Or is that Engels or Idah?

If the lip readers are correct Brendan is aware of our defence frailities, he is also aware of our super soft midfield that has been an issue for a few seasons now , not one of them are up for a battle . And it’s not just Brendan who is aware of that .Dundee showed it up on Tuesday night , but worse the Belgian mouthpiece knows it . He sends his boot merchants out every time against us , without retaliation as we don’t have a player capable of giving it back . Football wise they are not in the same league as us, but opponents going out to rough us up is a leveller . Imho we need
A tough nut in midfield .we need a tough nut to backup CCV , someone to make them think about laying into our bhoys. That mix will carry us on not only up here but enable us to compete a bit better in Europe. I understand
Brendan is in sole charge of players in and out . (Although I will be surprised if he is ) . So we have the cash bring in the required players then get rid of the dead wood we always seem to carry ,to replace some of the money on any new players we bring in . HH
Blakey,et al,thanks HH
