Developing players is not for everyone

178

There is no point blaming a player you paid £6m for, for not delivering.  It’s better to look at the process which brought him to the club.

In signing a player who has already had a season in the EPL, you indicate that you’ve decided not to pursue the development strategy previously in place.   More evident of this exists, as you know.

Developing players is not easy, not everyone is up for it. Spending £6m on players you hope are already developed isn’t an easy route to success either.

It may take weeks or months this or years but the reality is that it will balance out over time. Their market cap should be close to ours.

no, to use current in vogue terminology their business model is as weak as piss, their executive appointments are system failures, and for the big boss to go all wizard of oz, recors revenues , big deal when it results in record lossess.

catch a grip on comparing those businesses, and on brendans ego, he has earned it.

as to the team, they wanted scales dropped, they want trusty in, now they want him dropped,

    try idah at centre half.

Good afternoon all from the Brazen Head. Another action packed day in Cumberland Street. 😉👍🍻

  3. I’d prefer a centre half who could comfortably step into midfield and play a forward pass , rather than a Tough nut.

I suspect Trusty is starting to feel the combined effect of the number of games and the expectation to win every game. I’d be inclined to play the big fella on Saturday and get the midweek game out his system.

Another change for Saturday is Callum benched pull Arne back , Reo and Paulo either side . Adam starts.

Lisbon taxi drivers have made a lot of money from saying Simpson, Craig, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill Clark Johnstone Wallace Chalmers Auld and Lennox.

Train is easy from central Lisbon, back street bars away from the main drag are very reasonable.

Open top bus city tour is a must if you’ve time.

  5. Should the Hoops’ talisman leave Glasgow’s east end this summer, Brondby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden looks to be among the frontrunners to replace him. Bold report that the Danish club are demanding a minimum of £8.4m to sell in the winter window

  6. Hopefully we see soon some of the fruits of Paul Tisdale’s efforts, or, is looking at players not in his remit?

  7. Trusty and Idah did not take part in Celtic’s preseason where many players were looking sharp. Maybe next year they will improve?

Dunno if it’s still there but on Tripadvisor a Tim described the trek from the train station to the stadium as “a four can walk” 😂😂

    It’s a brilliant trip, you’ll have a ball. Enjoy.

  9. The comment”Weak as piss” allegedly made by BR.Many trying to read into this meanings for their own agenda.Never cross their minds it was BRs description of the challenge, not the player himself, which I am positive was the true interpretation.

Trusty is a fine CH,forged in the Championship, not a league for soft CHs.VVD been ragdolled as has every CH on the planet.Give yourselves a break. It was Scales last week, now Trusty.

    FFS,

  10. Tom- thanks ,a guy posted he went in wrong direction getting off train, some great tips on here, all copied.HH

  11. Bada Bing: You’ve been given lots of good advice. Here’s a little more:

Get a train from Cais do Sodre station to Cruz Quebrada on the Cascais/Estoril line. The stadium is walkable from there.

Hope to get there sometime in February myself.

  13. *SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*

*RESULTS FROM GAME #33 DUNDEE 3 CELTIC 3 (McCOWAN, YANG, ENGELS)*

    Good evening, friends.

Just returned from a wee mini break in sunny Anstruther and only caught fleeting moments of the game through the bottom of several glasses. It’s so long ago I’ve assumed that no-one neds another match report so it’s straight to the results!

We have now played 33 games this season, winning 24, drawing 7 and losing 2. We have scored 91 and conceded 27 (domestically it’s 81-17 and in Europe it’s 10-10). Thank you so much to the 55 who voted this time around. Records continue to be broken but unfortunately this one is for the lowest voting turnout of the season so far. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

    Schmeichel: 6

    Johnston*: 15

    Hatate: 0

    Kuhn*: 20

    Palma: 0

    McCowan – 4 points

    Taylor – 3 points

    Kuhn – 2 points

    Johnston – 1 point

And the overall positions after 32 games played are –

41 points – Bernardo, Engels, Scales

    36 points – Hatate, Schmeichel

    38 points – Maeda

    Hail Hail!

    William Hill Premiership

    Celtic v Aberdeen

Live on Sky Sports, kick-off 2000hrs

  15. A successful celtic team playing in the CL will return a higher profit than development of younger players which should form part of the strategy rather than the whole strategy.

We don’t need a team full of young players, we need several high quality youngsters to develop alongside high-quality fist team players.

  16. Been over here for many many years but I can still recall Big Bad John being called a waste of space as he took a bit to get started, however I will say this, IMHO if he had played in Seville we would have won that night, so mibbees just mibbees we should give big Adam our support, as my da used tae say, you don’t score goals sitting in the stand, oh and while I’m on a wee well fired roll, the Big Mhan signed Wispy to pair him up with Joe McGoals, so who was to be left out, Stevie hmmmm.

  17. All supporters will have a contemporaneous critique as we work our way through the season, in fact most have one as we work our way through each game. Can I just address those expressing grave opinions on the manager and players at this moment in time – a moment that, let’s not forget, when the aforementioned have taken us to a position of strength in every competition we’ve entered in this ’24/’25 season.

I feel that there is now a rush to carry out needless major surgery on a basically healthy patient – indeed some seem to be gearing-up for an autopsy on a patient in rude health with a bit of a cold.

I speak only for myself when I say that I see a successful season being played out in the coming months, and like all of our many other successful campaigns it will not be faultless in its progress. HH

For the game O’ Gilins is a stick on.

To get to the stadium just get either BOLT or UBER. Put these 2 APPS on your phone they both work. BOLT was dirt cheap 12 euros. If you get one of these tell them you want dropped at the front of the stadium. Walk up a small path that looks like someone’s garden. The security office is on the right with the changing rooms on the left,, Just go in and ask the guard to let you in. There’s no charge but give them a bung 20 euro. Then just order your taxi back. There’s a big place called TIME OUT MARKET it’s like a big beer hall full of food outlets and bars well worth a visit and there’s PINK STREET for pubs. O’GILINS, TIME OUT MARKET and PINK STREET all within 10 minutes walking distance of each other. The best food I got was in THE HARD ROCK CAFE (chicken fajitas). Also stop at any cafe or shop for coffee and order at least 4 of the extremely tasty custard tarts. Hope this helps it’s a lovely city and don’t forget your hankies for the stadium visit.

    Oven (Amazing Indian)

    Porter (Great steakhouse)

KOB (even greater steakhouse but you pay for it)

I watched Celtic games in O’Gilíns.

I think you will find Paul67 and I are miles apart on the chances of them closing the market cap by any meaningful amount this decade.

  21. Why was Khun sitting in the dugout yawning up at Dundee?

Too much Tippy Tappy boring the arse off of him as well too?

How does he think the fans feel? Well those fans who’s minds aren’t colonised by Celtic the brand group-think?

Did big Idah go straight up the tunnel after being subbed on Tuesday night?

If so, is it because Tippy Tappy across the pitch brain-drain fitba just fkn sucks if you are a big guy with height capabilities which could turn you into a Sutton-esque Celtic Legend, skills which are not being recognised, never mind utilised, by Celtic’s very limited manager’s skill-set?

Yes, Rodgers is limited. And he gets away with being limited in the SPL with virtually zero competition. That’s why some PLC succulent fans play down our European aspirations, rather than be honest and say that Rodgers is at Celtic coz no serous club will put their club at the risk of being relegated, like Leicester, were relegated coz Rodgers is an idealist which makes him risky.

Some folk lip reading Rodgers from the other night in Dundee. How about some face reading?

Of late, the lingering look on Rodgers face, since during the LCF even though we won it, and in more recent games has said:

[ “For fk sake Ange! Hurry up an get sacked so that I can get oot ae here!” ]

Even the dogs on the streets can see more than the average Dim Tim.

    Woof! Woof!
