There is no point blaming a player you paid £6m for, for not delivering. It’s better to look at the process which brought him to the club.
In signing a player who has already had a season in the EPL, you indicate that you’ve decided not to pursue the development strategy previously in place. More evident of this exists, as you know.
Developing players is not easy, not everyone is up for it. Spending £6m on players you hope are already developed isn’t an easy route to success either.

So Niles can you talk us through your review of the B Team please?
Yes happy to, technically we have no money for a B Team.
Thank you Niles.

Pity re Valle
Not likely Barcelona will be seeing us as a development platform for anyone anytime soon.
——–
B78; if Barca’s financial shenanigans render them further impoverished, they’ll be begging us to take some of our young starlets on loan ;) Seriously, they’re pretty much more skint than Sevco !!
When they call, they can take their pick from the well-oiled scouting machine that brought us Lagers, Holm, Kwon, Nawrocki, Tilio…
PS; one more name to watch from Oz is the young striker Noah Botic, who scored two beauts today; one header and one absolute rocket from about 30 out.

Good Morning Celts…
SPIDEY101 @ 11:02 PM,
Excellent post… spot on
We have been experimenting with player recruitment “models” and “strategies” for well over a decade now.
We have a strong evidence and data supporting what works for Celtic and what doesn’t.
I’d like us to persevere with the academy model, especially as we recently restructured the approach and have built on Barrowfield
Yet our 2024 recruitment was based on your #3…
3) The Brighton model – Bring in players who are good enough for your first team, make them better and give them a platform.
💯 The way to go…
Sorry to see Young Valle going, he will be a very good player… while watching the game on Tuesday, my pal told me how really pleased Barca’ were at the way we treated Valle…
…from the moment he got off the plane
Presumably to the time BSR drives him to the airport himself…
That loan was what we call in the business
A Win~Win~Win
We really are a first class organisation
Hail Hail
MH- ha ha,going with good lady,so be a bit calmer trip HH

Lovely story…
Darwin,
As always you put a compelling argument.
However, if we have fringe players we must try them. Otherwise what is the point of developing them ?
I realise the pressure to suceed in all tournaments and our fanbase expects us to be the best we can be in every competition.
That is why I would supplement our fringe players with a solid bench.
PS: Wr really need to know if Adam Montgomery and Daniel Cummings and of course Sinisalo can step up if required.
There is literally millions of pounds at stake.
HH.
AT – thanks. I agree that the absence of a decent reserve league/B team at a good standard inhibits our ability to do one of the other models. Development outside of the first team is inevitably limited.
Burnleybhoy – I take the point on Frimpong who was more in the “project” category than the others but he’d got himself in the first team by September – perhaps ahead of time given we were poor that year. Abada and MOR were straight into Ange’s team so I’d suggest they were brought in as “good enough for our first team”. The money paid on them was less but Frimpong was 6 years ago and MOR had a release clause. Abada wasn’t cheap for his background.
Chairbhoy I’d also like to see us do better with the Academy. Really we should be a combination of models 1 and 3 but our flirting with model 2 (as we did in 2023) doesn’t help our Academy kids break through as we’re giving minutes to guys like Nawrocki and Yang instead of to the likes of Vata and Cummings who may not currently be as good but could be in a couple of years. Our last kid from the Academy to start a game was Owen Moffat which is a pretty poor show (notwithstanding we’d have given Doak starts had he stayed).
Barca are far from skint – they wouldn’t be building a new 100K Camp Nou otherwise.
No, Barca are subject to finance rules in La Liga which will never be seen in Scottish football for obvious reasons.
Good morning CQN
Spidey 101 – nice one.
Take young Valle.
He got physically battered against Falkirk and didn’t look physically strong enough for the Scottish game.
But we persevered with his development and he became a trusted part of the squad. Personally I never get to attached to a loan player.
I think Adam Montgomery is 22 years old.
Imo, Crunch time for the left back
HH.
AN DUN:
Some folks still think Barca’s debt is a massive issue:
https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2024/9/13/24243693/barcelona-debt-is-unpayable-according-to-economist
SPIDEY101 @ 9:54 AM,
Yes, totally agree, one and three can be complimentary, two runs interference on the other approaches.
On the first team ready development recruits…
Abada was certainly not “cheap” considering where he came from, Matt O’Riley was calling the shots when he signed for MK Don’s as a free agent – he insisted on a low release clause.
Matt O’Riley left Filham as he wasn’t getting first team football, signed for MK Don’s on the condition he got first team football, so he would never have came to Celtic without first team football… canny bit of business by the fellah that spotted that one.
Frimpong is an interesting one, we really don’t know the deal there, or at least I don’t, I’d speculate we got him on a low transfer fee with a high percentage selling on fee…
Hail Hail
An Dun – whisper it.
Barcelona are skint.
To pay for the new stadium they’ve peddled more futures than Springtime For Hitler.
Haaland signs 9.5 year deal on a “basic” wage of £500,000 a week.
A contract worth a minimum of £247,000,000. or over 100 years of prize money for Celtic reaching 110 in a row.
Yorkbhoy,
It really is obscene.Especially from Manchester City.
Well aff oot along the Beach with the Dug,as nothing to get excited about on the transfer front.Same old,
Bid rejected,Looking at,Interested in,considering an offer, keeping tabs on,eyeing up,KT,Kvist garteen.Hate transfer windows. No peace even in the months leading up to them.Already on about the summer window.
Bada Bing.
I went to the stadium on Wednesday.
Used Bolt app for taxis.
Easy way of doing it.
Saw no sign of any renovation work anywhere.
You’ll love it. Wonderful experience.
Hail Hail
Quadrophenian
Interesting that neither Narwoki or Holm (both highly rated young poty on their home markets were deemed worthy of being given a chance at Celtic.
Gvardiol cost 70-odd million? and he had an absolute stinker against Spurs a couple of months ago, but I’m sure the previous recruitment team at Celtic could have picked up a gem for £500k who would never have made a single mistake…..

Yes – that is interesting, yet we are perseving with Yang – rated Young POTY in Korea.!?
What do you make of it?
Maybe Yang is showing it in training?

Lovely story…
BADA, lovely right enough. Thanks

Bada
I was there in August and was told by one of the staff (whom I’d given 20 euros for letting us in) that work was later starting this year.
Not to be missed.
We took an uber (8 euros) to the stadium then, after hunners of photos, walked down to the station and caught the train to Cascais.
Crackin.
‘starting later’ even.
I said in previous reply to BADA ” dont go long way round to West entrance”
But you know what one of my boys took me by mistake that way.
There were loads of wee paths through trees
but restricted by gates( i wasnt climbing over :-)
BUT as i walked up that way i could imagine Celtic supporters climbing those fences and taking the paths to ground. Dont know if it got you in ground
but imagine plenty of trees for vantage points from outside.
PS called a BOLT from WEST ? side to front door
wasnt walking back through 100 deg heat carrying a few btls of beer.

I enjoyed that wee story. I knew the Murdoch brothers too, I played football with Billy. I also knew the Joe Duffy of the story. However, I mention this because I met Matt coming out of the stadium after the game in Lisbon. We spoke only for a few moments before being swept away in opposite directions by delirious fans.
A moment in time forever locked in the memory box. :-)
