Development challenges

125

Changes introduced to Scottish football transfer times today allow clubs to cooperate with let kane clubs by freely moving young players between them.

It had been a persistent concern that our top talent are not sufficiently stress tested in the crucial late teen years. From now, Celtic will be able to send their best prospects out to play against grown men. This has established benefits.

What I’m less confident about is our demographic pool, or whether playing against the Championship’s finest will be enough to keep our top talent from moving to England or Germany.  The whole youth development business does not stand up to investment scrutiny.

Within the financial constraints of Scottish football , how then do you make it work?

I see his problem flagged up a lot, but I’ve not seen any plan that would make a significant difference. Due to the money available elsewhere, there is no possibility that I can see of being able to bring on a group like the “Quality Street” BHOYs of the late 60s/early 70s.

My son, now 24, was at school with a boy who moved to Norwich at 18y.o., on 5k per week. Currently he is playing in Scotland below premiership. I can’t see any way to suggest boys turn offers like that down to stay here for a lot less. I also can’t see any club in Scotland offering that amount to a whole team of prospects at that age – not even Celtic have that level of resource.

    Is it possible to do?

Perhaps the Paradise Windfall takings should be redirected to charitable causes ( its in our DNA)

…. a belief of mine since I bought my first Paradise Windfall ticket…

  6. There is no way that Celtic can expect kids to turn down £5k per week and accept between £750 to £1k per week .

That one contract is probably going to be the most lucrative contract of most young Scottish prospects careers.

That’s before you take into consideration the glamour of the EPL or the likes of Bayern Munich .

Celtic need to get into the EPL to fulfill their potential at all levels of football.

uefa fsr. key pillar – youth development.

    How will sustainability be achieved?

The package of new measures includes ways to encourage football clubs to build equity and invest in infrastructure and youth development for their long-term benefit. Stronger balance sheets can provide a first line of defence against revenue shortfalls. Closely aligned to the objective of strengthening balance sheets is the need to make a meaningful move towards better cost control.

    Indeed.

  9. The English academy system is well developed and is a very attractive option for those getting offers. Points to just how nuanced player development has become, and the niche specialism that Celtic has moved into. Develop players from other leagues and make a profit doing so. Makes sense!

If this is true then the new ownership will have given into the hordes – not at all good news for R2ngers.

Of course, great news for us, the hordes have done a disastrous job of running R2ngers right from it’s inception.

    Hail Hail

  14. It was always a rumour that he was joining! Gave it to Fabrizio to find out how it would be seen. Now they know. What’s next? por cierto.

  15. Any indications on potential signings for Celtic or is it really all about rangers now a days ?

Obviously a complex deal to evaluate because we got Jota back but it seems

at face value the Celtic favourite has cost Rennes currently in talks with Brentford about the player, £78,000 per day excluding his earnings

    Talisman indeed.

  17. In Southern tip of Harris in outer Hebrides with a dodgy signal here.

If it really is Martin Naismith Ross and another then it will be interesting. My personal view is their own supporters will be as much a problem as their opponents will be.

  18. The problem is,kids aint gonna stick around Celtic,if they see no pathway to the first team.Best prospect I have seen in years,Sean Mc Ardle, must join the first team squad next season.Play him in Cork,45 mins against Newcastle, game time in Como.Let’s see him.If he is good enough,of which I have no doubt,we have a gem for BR to polish up

Too much of the old thinking,”Too young, too wee”,etc.Tell that to PSG.

    Get them in.

  19. If Aston Villa are in breach of UEFA spending guidelines for the season past in which they played us, who gets the money from the fine, will it be another windfall for Celtic?
