Development path for Nawrocki and Lagerbielke

127

Maik Nawrocki played his first league game of the season on Sunday.  His only other appearances were home to Falkirk in the League Cup back in September , when he replaced Stephen Welsh for the final five minutes of the game, and against Raith Rovers in the Scottish, when he replaced Jeffrey Schlupp on 72 minutes.  He was behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, Liam Scales, Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray in the central defensive pecking order.

With Stephen away, Liam injured, Auston unavailable for family reasons and Dane not enjoying  being thrown into the deep end at Villa Park, the call eventually went out to a player who watched five others picked before him this season.  It was a recipe for disaster, but reports of how well the lad has trained proved true.  He is a player.

He was our only defender who did not put a foot wrong on Sunday and made a goal-saving intervention.  For almost two years the player’s development has withered in Glasgow, seldom even on the bench, despite offers to take him out on loan and his willingness to go.

Unlike Maik, Gus Lagerbielke was allowed to leave for a season-long on loan as backup at Twente.  That backup status has since been revised and he is now first choice in central defence in a more competitive league than he left behind.  His performances have him with the Sweden squad this week (a country also seeded higher than Scotland).

Here is a prediction for you.  Lagerbielke will leave Celtic at a profit, and three years from now, he and Nawrocki will be playing at a higher level of football than any other central defender currently at Celtic, other than Cameron Carter-Vickers.  Just as long as they are allowed to leave for a club prepared to develop them.

Might be wrong but didn’t the assassination attempt actually succeed. Advocating peace is a risky business in that historical and political context, for Israeli leaders too. Egypt has at least offered a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, but then again so has Donald Trump. I do not know whether Palestine has any future, in fact the West Bank may well go the same way as Gaza.

Kennedy continued: “It’s not something that Police Scotland want to do because of the number of officers involved. There were 850 police officers on duty at the weekend. A lot of their rest days were either cancelled or re-rostered. They are not getting paid any extra money for it. So it’s not something we actually want.

“But Section 60 is a means to an end. It has to happen to curb the violence and stop the fans who are out there to cause trouble. It’s there for that reason, it’s there to be used. As I say, it’s very common and successful in England.

  4. The stauch coaching team of 3 failed lower division managers/TV pundits, had The Rangers squad ready and willing to run, press and foul for the cause, BR and his coaches refused to learn from our performance on Jan 2nd and arrogantly decided to play in the very same way, insisting that we play out from the back at all times with no variation. Of course we missed CalMac, but to me the first half hour was when the game was won and lost. This continually playing out from the back when the opposition is pressing us relentlessly is madness. The past 3 games against the Ibrox mob and Brugge in the Champions League have shown that against certain teams who are good at the high press, we need a plan B or C, if BR refuses to do this then we will have more days like Sundays.

Rangers have described the display by supporters of an anti-woke banner at their Europa League game against Fenerbahce – and which has led to a disciplinary charge from Uefa – as “shameful” and “embarrassing”.

The Scottish Premiership club also hit out at the throwing of objects on to the pitch, and the continued use of pyrotechnics, saying fans who carry out such acts are not welcome at their matches.

While thanking most supporters for their recent backing during games against the Turkish side and Celtic, Rangers state, external it is “deeply saddening and frankly embarrassing that the club is now set to face significant sanctions for the actions of a very small minority”.

The banner displayed at Ibrox during Thursday’s aggregate win over Fenerbahce stated: “Keep woke foreign ideologies out – defend Europe.”

Rangers say European football’s governing body has described it as “racist and/or discriminatory”.

“Rangers is a modern, progressive football club and we are fiercely proud of our diverse playing squads, workforce and support,” the club say in a website statement.

“For the club to be charged with such a matter in 2025 is shameful and the disdain for those responsible will be shared by the overwhelming majority of our supporters.

“This charge will bring consequences for the club, while the club is also working to identify those responsible and will ensure they also face consequences.

“For the avoidance of doubt, if you do not believe in 2025 that absolutely everyone is welcome to follow Rangers, whether at Ibrox or away, then Rangers is not the club for you and you should disassociate yourself with the club immediately.”

Rangers have also been charged over objects thrown on Thursday but say their own players and staff were “targeted with missiles” during Sunday’s Old Firm derby win at Celtic Park.

“This is becoming a regular occurrence, not just at Rangers matches but across stadia in Scotland,” Rangers state.

“Focusing on Ibrox, however, there was a widely-reported incident in the January Old Firm game, whilst at the recent game with Motherwell, one of our own supporters was hit and injured by an object thrown towards the away end.

“This senseless and criminal behaviour has no place in sport, nor in society. Again, if you think such behaviour is acceptable, you are not welcome at Rangers matches.”

Rangers also face a Uefa sanction for the blocking of passageways at the Fenerbahce match and urge fancs to follow the advice of stewards and police.

In addition, Rangers say that: “Despite clear warnings to the contrary, pyrotechnics were used by two individuals following Sunday’s Old Firm victory at Parkhead.

“This runs the risk of an additional 800 of our supporters being unable to attend a match in the latter stages of the Premier Sports Cup at Hampden, in addition to the 500 that will already miss out as a result of the use of pyrotechnics.

“All of the above behaviours will have consequences for the club and, either directly or indirectly, the club’s supporters.”

A good pal says, there’s games for dinner suits, and games for boilersuits, always boilersuits when we play against them and their ‘style’ of protected play.We try to play too much football at times, when we need to get the ball up the park quicker, and yes we need to get a couple of more physical guys in the team

*that’s what I was trying to say yesterday, yes we need some physicality but NOT necessarily hammer throwers, there was one game early on in Jocks reign where we went 2 up in 4 minutes and then let them have the ball, they never threatened us as we had Bonny Murdoch and wee Ten Thirty in the midfield protecting the defence while Jinky the Buzz Bomb, Joe McGoals and the Bear were pressurising their iron curtain defence
