Dickson: Okay, it should have been lodged with the SPL then

The transcript for the HMRC v Rangers First Tier Tribunal (FTT) runs to 1126 pages. It will take weeks, perhaps months, to distil the content into what remains relevant to the SFA’s decision to reject the SPFL’s request to review issues surrounding Rangers EBTs. For today:

Current SFA Council member (and Newco Rangers Head of Football Administration), Andrew Dickson, was cross-examined by Mr Thomson (representing HMRC).

On 18 April 2011, Mr Thomson asked Mr Dickson why a Trust schedule was not lodged with the football authorities, Mr Dickson replied:

It should not “Not necessarily” have been lodged.

When asked by Mr Thomson “What possibly basis do you have for saying that it should not have been lodged?”

Mr Dickson replied, “The SPL didn’t – never contacted us coming looking for it”.

After failing to convince Mr Thomson that lodging the schedule late rendered there no point to lodging it at all, Mr Thomson puts him on the spot:

“I’m asking you about the fact that it should have been lodged. It’s supposed to be lodged early. Just because you don’t lodge it timeously, doesn’t mean to say that you’re not then under an obligation to lodge it, Mr Dickson.”

To this, Mr Dickson concedes:

“Okay, it should have been lodged with the SPL then.”

A current SFA Council member, in a court of law, accepted that Oldco Rangers did not lodge paperwork to the SPL relating to EBT payments, which he accepted should have been lodged.

Mr Dickson’s SFA colleagues decided to reject the SPFL’s request for a review into the matter. You can draw your own conclusions as to why.

  6. Paul Wilson…one of my heroes when I was a pup.

I remember the huns singing about his dark skin, I mind asking my granda why?…he just said they are ignorant…that was from a good man that served in the eight army and hasd seen so much to realise the colour of your skin was irrelevant.

To be honest, my granda Joe wasn’t keen on huns.;))))))

  7. Sad to hear of the passing of Paul Wilson. RIP, and condolences to family.

Obviously, not being quite as old as some on here, my memories of Paul, are a bit more vague, but he stood out because of his undoubted skill, and for me, as an impressionable, and innocent young boy, I could never understand why people picked on him because of his dark skin. I always thought he had an ‘exotic’ look, and for a boy who was still paying for ‘black babies’ every friday morning at school, it stuck in my mind that people would shout abuse at him. Never understood it at that age.

The innocence of youth, eh ?

Dixie Deans at 7.48. Paul scored our goals in a two two draw against the now defunct club in September 1976. The horribles were 2 nil up but Paul shut their klan like fans up with their racist abuse of him.

My favourite Paul goal against them was in the previous year’s Glasgow Cup Final at a soaking Hampden. Ham and Egg made a mess of a pass back with it heading for goal . Paul chased it in and from a foot out , blasted it in the net. It must have sickened those of unsurpassed dignity to the guy they racially abused with a get it right up ye goal.

May Paul’s soul rest in piece

My Granda Tommy was of the same ilk as yours. I must have been 12 or 13 at the time and as the sing song was gathering momentum in the main room us weans were gathered on the staircase having our own.

“A Nation Once Again” was being sung and at the add on pause I let out, “soon they’ll be no protestants at all”. If looks could kil,l I’d have died on the spot. Shamed me in front of my cousins and gave me a book on Irish history to read.

I learned a valuable lesson reading Irish history, “Dublin, Belfast Cork and Donegal” had many prods that died for the cause.

Jimmynotpaul, if you are about or lurking , JC has posted on facebook highlights of Sunderland Under 18’s win against West Ham under 18’s . JC’s son scored a well taken hat trick.

The footage on youtube is better.

Input Sunderland under 18’s In the search bit and it will come up.

  12. Sionnach, Surely ye were singing On the One Road,

As it happens. A Nation Once Again which is an absolute gem of a song, was written by Thomas Davis a Protestant from Mallow Co, Cork a Young Irelander who was to the forefront in uniting Catholic & Protestant, he also wrote The West’s Awake, unfortunately died at a very young age.

  13. Gary 67. Thanks for that I will check it out. Will be living near the Duomo, so should be able to find it easily enough.

  14. Bateen bhoy… sorry about Saturday, I’ll stand you a few in Munich (Bayern) to make up for it. :))))

S.A…. My Granda lost so many jobs due to sticking up for Celtic and his faith, a wee guy hard as nails.

He didn’t speak much of the war years until bad health took him.

I would sit and listen to his snippets from those years.

The one that stuck in my mind was going to get more shells with a private and coming back to see all his pals had died as a German shell hit the shells left.

Reckon you will be round about my age…. thank God I never seen the horrors that our forefathers witnessed and hopefully our kid/grandkids don’t. HH

It’s just off Via Torino which is one of the main roads that come off Duomo Square. I’ve been several times, there’s plenty of screens so even if the EPL game is on they can put it on another tv.

Still awaiting approval, it can’t move until approved, nothing has changed since May when it was submitted, funnily enough planning received it on 25th May

  19. Yep Sionnach, at the end of a good Rebs session in Ireland, you would always finish with 4 or 5 rousing ballads,

maybe, The Broad Black Brimmer, BOTB, Sean South, On the One Road & always finish with A Nation Once Again.

FULL-TIME Hearts 0-2 Celtic. Goals from Aitchison and E. Henderson secure a very one-sided victory.

Liam set up his sibling , Ewan for our second goal tonight . I wonder if our players had to shout big Hendo for Liam and wee Hendo for Ewan . To complicate atters even more , Hearts had a Euan Henderson playing for them also

  22. All kidding aside… what have the huns really spent on transfers?

Is it we buy a player for a price and that is the price and the when the huns buy a player their wages are added on to escalate what they actually paid?
