The league was won by such a small margin and after so many tight games, it is possible to identify a dozen games and three times as many moments that can be considered crucial to the outcome. Not all of them by Celtic players.
Stephen Welsh’s 89th minute equaliser for 10-man Motherwell against Newco in February was one of them. Moments earlier Celtic scored an added-time winner against Livingston, while Newco led at Motherwell. That four-point swing kept Celtic hopes alive that the improbable was still possible.
Welsh featured in Motherwell’s post-split win at Ibrox and draw against Hearts, games which respectively removed Newco and Hearts from the position of bookies’ favourites for the title. As a Celtic player, he was unable to play in our 2-3 win at Fir Park last month.
Six years after making his Celtic debut, the player has been released from his contract a year early, with contract offers already on the table. The loan fee received from Motherwell, or expected for another year elsewhere, was not sufficient incentive to inhibit the player’s career or earning potential. Then there is the feeling that we owe him something.
Stephen’s loan to Motherwell was cut short when Celtic needed cover in January, but he returned to Lanarkshire after Benjamin Arthur arrived on load from Brentford. That decision looked curious at the time. Arthur was not as ready for action as Welsh, and we were potentially developing Brentford’s player, instead of our own. But Motherwell would have been weakened when playing our title rivals. It’s an interesting manifestation of the consequences of the loan market. Did it decide the title? Sure, along with +50 other decisions.

CM- I joined ,more through luck than judgement, it will get posted again I’m sure .As for our future I don’t have any faith in those in power, and nobody will be held responsible for last seasons shambles ( some happy clapper will be on re the Double),DD done as much to sabotage the season, and I don’t think he would have bothered ,if we crashed and burned
No ambition shown, 5 months to get a manager sorted out decisions made by a man who would need a Satnav to find Celtic Park, can’t be arsed turning up for AGMs,things won’t change as long as he’s there unfortunately

Thanks for the reply.
Can I assume MON is the football manager?
===========
No. He might be but M Nicholson as CEO and Chris McKay as CFO last season would have been checking the rules and doing the sums for The Board and BR would make his pitch.
The problem, and it is hearsay, was Tisdale was doing the refining according to the Board criteria and BR wanted to go higher. If that “higher” was more than was agreed with DD when he joined then there was always going to trouble ahead between the two.
The days of a Football Manager identifying a player from personal but limited knowledge face competition from data analysis to reduce the field, at which point further reduction takes place that will involve personal knowledge of a player if he is on the list or one who is not because of wages required to sign.
To use Gordon Strachan views on the starting criteria for a football team: The team with players who can run fastest, jump highest and tackle hardest, wins.
A bit crude but attributes that matter as well as technical ability, football intelligence, attitude etc

If DD did as much to sabotage the season which infers that was his aim then why hire the one guy he knew who was capable of fixing the problem?
If DD is all powerful then why would he use that power to fix the sabotage.
I think DD has made lots of mistakes in brining PL back, bringing BR back and going tonto at BR publicly but I doubt sabotage was his intent.
To sabotage means to deliberately damage, destroy, or obstruct something on purpose—usually to prevent an enemy, competitor, or rival from succeeding. It can apply to physical objects (like equipment), plans, systems, or even abstract concepts like a person’s career or personal relationships.
However because of DDS past record I can see RK being appointed and think it will be another mistake and I really hope it does not happen.
I can see no love for Celtic in such an appointment.

Could Keane be the key to #StopTheTen?
He took the Board protests, and him getting singled out that bad,I don’t think he cared if the season got wrecked, how much money did we spend last season? He’s only interested in money, nothing else matters.

An earlier poster claimed that DD ‘resented’ Celtic. That is the level or lack of rationale that we find on here. It is for the birds. Many of his same critics had been screaming for a DOF for years, and yet we finally got its’ equivalent , Paul Tisdale we found out that either he wasn’t up to the job, or that BR ‘resented’ his role. That was Sept/Oct 2024, after a successful US tour, a good round of signings, and on the verge of one of our best seasons in recent memory, including a good Euro run, missing out on a treble by one late Maeda miss against Aberdeen. Where were the pitchforks in Sept 2024? Where were the Board haters then? As you point out it was DD who took the decision to bring back MON after the disaster of Brother Walfrid, a choice made by Paul Tisdale, and accepted by the Board, which turned out to be a disaster. Wasn’t sabotage by DD, wasnt based on ‘resentment’ of Celtic, it was a bad decision, mitigated by a decision which put Martin & Co back in charge early this year. If Martin agrees to remain, and the Board agrees to his terms & conditions, and crucially his ambitions we can look forward to giving next season a real go from the getgo. And even more crucially avoid all the pitfalls appointing Robbie Keane would bring to the whole club.
‘In Martin we Trust’ a campaign slogan I know, but it happens to be true….
DD has sat quietly in the shadows since his childish comments directed at BR.
He has kept his power dry in the face of the criticism of his stupidity in hiring Nancy.
He has been silent (publicly) in the face of many comments, chants, banners and tennis balls by supporters.
Maybe he is planning to get his own back on our support by choosing a coach that he knows will annoy a great number of us.
Since he didn’t show any concern at the very near possibility of us not winning anything this season.
Why would he care now?

TOSB- Askou at Toulouse now….
……….
Ah! Of course. Toulouse could afford Stevie’s wages.
Looking forward to the big splash coming with the Kuhn money and the interest alone could find us a few ‘unpolished gems’ to keep the dividenders happy.
All this talk of Roy Keane negotiating to appoint his choice of backroom team makes me wonder. Stephen Glass – unemployed
Scott Brown – unemployed
Jonny Hayes – already in the building.
What could be holding things up?
Are Celtic wanting eg Fozzy to be included in the backroom staff? Or, is Desmond now looking to appoint another manager?
why was desmond at celtic park for the hearts title play off game ?
the return of weeron
There was nothing ‘childish’ about Dermot Desmond’s broadside against Brendan Rodgers.
It was a broadside that hit below the waterline, making it clear that he had enough of the manager undermining not just Celtic FC, his own players, aided and abetted by Captain Flint, and he had done it for the very last time. With no China exit available Brendan ditched the Honda Civic and hopped on the last available magic carpet en route to the land of Saud and the Aramco Select, leaving behind FC Kairat to take his place. Sadly some of the Celtic support bought into the Brendan narrative, and for most of the season engaged in a whole series of infantile tactics, in the car park, in Dundee, @ the AGM and even disrupting Martin O’Neill’s team against Stuttgart. Thankfully the vast majority saw sense, got back on Board, got behind Celtic FC ending the season in one of our greatest triumphs. Unfortunately this triumph has proven too much for some, and there is already talk of bhoycotting the match against AC Milan.
“It’s not always easy supporting Celtic” said a wise man, he was right, it’s too difficult for some….
Always about the dividend for a few on here.

Was he? – didn’t see him
Depot at a league match?
I thought he only turned up to be seen at Champions League matches, feigning interest, Despot would strike me as more of an oval ball aficionado.
What’s this match against AC of Milan? When is it happening?
If Keane is appointed, surely the support will get fully behind him?
Least we could do, considering the disgusting traitorous, tout like behaviour by some among us.

++++++++++++
You have reminded me of an Irish fella I became friendly with watching Celtic games over the years in John Lemon’s bar in Benalmadena, sadly closed by Covid.
He moved to Toledo to get away from The Brits on The Costa but I caught up with him again in Decs Irish Bar watching the Title and Cup winning games.
Back in the John Lemon days after we got to know each other better I asked him “Would the Irish cut off their noses to spite their faces?”
He replied ” Fecking right we would” I smiled at his honesty.
Given Irish history and the wrongs perpetrated on them by “The Brits” I can well understand that attitude and why the idea of forgiveness is a hard sell.
Palestine is a present day reminder of Irish history in terms of extreme wrong doing by one people on another.
So wrong that guilt stops the perpetrators of wrong admitting how cruel they have been and apologising for doing it.
All based on reading about parts of Irish history and making some great Irish friends in a place where there are plenty of Irish bars.
Will DD be vindictive? He may well might, but an introduction to the benefits of forgiving and the phases using the research of The International Forgiveness Institute might give him pause for thought but I would not bet on it. He is Irish.
A metanoia of the current Celtic mindset both Board and Support is needed and it might take the painful consequences of not forgiving to eventually cause that.
I would describe what is happening to Celtic now as an awakening . It is a philosophical way to look at events globally never mind Celtic.
Gibran has captured the essence when he speaks to Pain in his book The Prophet.
And a woman spoke, saying, Tell us of Pain.
And he said:
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.
Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.
by Kahlil Gibran a Lebanese Christian.
Excerpt from The Prophet, first published in 1923
I always smile at the reference to the tender hand of the “Unseen” to which I attach “Fenian”

Did MoN just turn up to save the day or did DD ask him?
Is that not a strong indication that DD cared very much or has he been demonised to such an extent that such thinking is unacceptable to many.
Sure MoN pulled the rabbit out of the hat but he did not appear as if by magic.
When DD told me in September to relax everything would calm down in 5 months I now think he genuinely thought WN based on what he had been advised was the new direction Celtic needed to take to address supporter concerns.
Once that FUP was recognised DD fell back on a much less risky option but should have kept his feelings about BR out of the public domain but anger at what he thought of as betrayal won the day.
Second stage of grief. Been there, done that , which creates empathy.

We could just draw the line at working within regimes found to be carrying out a plausible genocide.
Anyway, regardless of the Israel argument. I don’t think anyone can credibly claim that appointing Keane will lead to Brian Wilson’s much called for unity. It will utterly divide, disrupt and distract. There’s no doubt about that, I don’t see that as being up for debate. Desmond’s seeming indifference to this fact is a measure of the man.
