Difficult opening fixtures but no excuses

259

Away to Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Newco in the first round of fixtures.  If you like your season to start with a challenge, you will be happy.  Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, may have hoped for a more favourable start to the campaign.

No excuses, we have the resources to cope and to go on and win the league.

  1. Neil Lennon’s recent tenure as Celtic manager wouldn’t have been so bad if he had his own assistants.

He was wrong to take the job without his own assistants and the board were wrong to employ him without his own assistants.

    Were lessons learned?

    Probably not.

We underestimate, I believe, what a roar from our support can do when a player is having a ‘moment’ on the park, or an applause from good play, or us calling out linesman and refs.

I only ever boo refs, linesman and opposition, that’s my choice though….

    ———————–

In keeping with a modern “new breed” outlook on all things Celtic, I like to berate and critique everything I observe at the park, from my seat in block 122, overlooking the tunnel.

Here you can get up close and personal to the non performing hingers on that are the groundstaff, the extra stewards, the police commander, that saint andrews ambulance guy that canny straddle the wee gates, her that runs after the camera guy for sky sports, them photographers that love themselves, Simon Donnelly looking like a Musketeer, Gerry of celtic tv, Big Hayley, the guy that wheels out the tombola, badge man leaving early on his scooter to beat the traffic, that blind guy that gets a shout out from the very back of the Jock Stein stand while waving in their direction, and dont get me stared on the big dug, his performances are a disgrace to mascots everywhere, I wouldnt be suprised if he is no a dug at all.

In fairness, i believe fans missing affected our players more than most clubs.

    ——

I often thought the influence of fans was overstated. After last season I’m no longer so sure.

We were probably affected in a negative sense although if there were fans inside watching the levels of performances we were served up it’s likely there would’ve been a negative response. Of course had there been fans inside, it would be argued that the team could’ve/would’ve been roused to a higher level of performance.

What is beyond all doubt is that the G51 club had a huge positive in that their mentally weak players benefitted from not having a crowd on their backs.

So are you saying that the manager was blameless

    Nope

  5. I think I preferred the Scotland support when they aw drank Tartan Special, looked like John Wark and swung off Wembley’s goalposts………………The Cat Boot ‘n’ Tea-Cosy brigade look a tad contrived…………

  6. mursheen – I’m fine with us all expecting to win every game. As a club, all factions have a major part too play – finances, recruitment, coaching, players and fans collective determine whether we win lose or draw.

Entitlement for me? This is when we win 9 IAR again and an unprecedented quad treble – we follow this with a disastrous season where all of those factions collapsed in a single season. Board for complacent, recruitment was awful, players didnt perform, coaching couldn’t handle the fluid situations and the fans panicked due to 10IAR. I have HUGE sympathy for the club – covid destroyed any momentum as we regularly lost key at critical times in the season (btw – this disrupts training, playing and personnel who need to quarantine). Beyond this, we were desperately unlucky with injuries, again to key players and back up players.

I can’t believe journalists don’t discuss this in their analysis – I guarantee, if Rangers went through what we did last season – the narrative would be one of lucky celtic, unfortunate rangers and Asterix beside the title.

10IAR didnt happen for multiple reasons – we have no right to win every game.

External factors play a significant factor in sport – luck included. If it wasn’t for this force – we wouldn’t have stopped rangers winning 10IAR and probably 11, 12 ,13….

I am grateful for this , I am grateful for our recent domination and I am grateful we are still in strong financial health to go on a run again. Unlike Rangers who scramble desperately to keep the lights on.

Entitlement v expectations are very different things.

time for the next phase in Celtics great history.

PS If Ranger had just won 9 again and quad treble – the all media avenues would still be talking about it and glorifying it.

  8. Celtic’s current board and previous manager have been pretty critical of our support lately.

I’m not certain we can claim that these same fans would have made much of a difference in points or in prizes.

Seems a weak argument to me. Difficult to measure.

Hoping all involved with Celtic show more purpose for the coming season.

    My expectations are realistic.

Well, the Celtic board will never forget this moment on history. What a lesson they’ve been taught.

My renewal was not made until the 15th of June.

Just think about it. Not May. Not the first week in June. Not the second week in June.

NO – the 3rd week and only after I went down to the ticket office, tore a branch off a tree and gave it a right good thrashing.

  13. I want to add – many celtic fans mentality and attitude is driven by what comes from the media. Do not underestimate the power of the media to corrupt the thinking of the lazy reader. (see trump victory due to Russian social media drive)

We know the media in Scotland is anti Celtic – they are bigots and hate everything about our accomplishments.

When Rangers were in Div1 and lost to Motherwell to get back into the SPL – I remember the media writing CONSTANTLY about how loyal the rangers fans are and how they always back the club.

Had that been Celtic – the narrative would have been fans have had enough, fans will not buy season tickets , etc. etc. the negative momentum would have been catastrophic!

The younger Celt fans need to get smarter and understand this force – Supporting Celtic is more than just the beautiful football – its a cause , its a fight for justice and a battle we take on!

Fergus took it on and should have a statue outside Celtic park – look how the media portrayed him?

I think someone will measure it in the future, maybe as a dissertation, using analytics before pandemic, then during , then after, does performance return to the averages of before, and would that then prove the lack of fans impacted everything surrounding the club during that time.

Klopp commented he believe his teams random results really were partly caused by no fans.

Other teams without the pressure of hordes on their back had their best league seasons ever (taking both franchises of the 2nd rangers)

Statistically I dont believe thems will do it again.

I do believe when celtic are allowed fans to return, the most likely to return will be th emost supportive types, and it will make a difference.

You have to belive, I think it is called being faithful, or something like that.

I am often amazed by the younger fans gut reactions to the social media feeds, Youngests of the nephews will sit at the match , phone in hand , telling me who is posting what from their homes, or what sky is saying, or Sutton said this, about the live match that we are watching in front of us.

Having said that, pre covid, I wasnt adverse to posting shite on here live from the game, just to disagree with the grumblers.

  24. Ange would have walked from Tokyo to Celtic but what kind of a welcome awaits him?

No Neilly Mochan for a trainer or Bob Rooney as a physio or Sean Fallon as head of recruitment.

No assistant manager…big JK is not really even that just a guy who loves his club and is a great servant but who works best in the background.I think Kennedy should get demoted and Gavin Strachan( like Mr Hammond) shouldn´t get renewed. Ange will have his own ideas for backroom staff so he needs time to bring in good people. Kennedy could stay in the picture in the meantime and see if he can impress Ange.

It read to me, at the time and ever since, as exactly what I would expect to hear from a billionaire psychopath; honeyed words about a reviled foe, spoken whilst standing astride the fallen corpse urinating on it.
