Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

It is a old cliche I know, but you really couldn’t make it up.

Thanks for posting the story of Seville last night, much appreciated.

Would love to read your first-hand account of the football experience in Germany if you have time.

So many people saying it is the way to go but what specifically did you find better?

What ideas, even allowing for the bureaucratic doom-mongers at the SFA/SPFL, could be easily transferred to Scotland?

What could Celtic , or any team, do off their own back?

A terrible post! Hope it was done with a tongue in cheek approach.

Our team is far superior to what we have seen in recent times. The shape is now good and the Fitba is good to watch. We finally have a manager who wants our players to behave as professionals in a dietary and fitness way. We can now see a huge difference, with weight dropped and significant improvement in athletic competency.

This, combined with such a good tacticle approach makes our manager a top mhan. Long may it continue and let the detractors (for lack of any Fitba knowledge) step back and Give us Peace; once and for good.

Braiden, after the first call you referenced, did mention that £1 billion would be cascaded to ENGLISH grass-roots football. The comment wasn’t expanded on or discussed.

It was gallin wasnt it.to quick to buckle to sky and grab the crumbs offered by murdoch especially as the cheats are not in the same league as us(were they ever?)

To think that Scottish subscribers are funding grass routes in England is part of the sky fraud. It will be interesting to see how much ‘tricklesdown to grass routes even in England as i think sky will weasel and wangle a way out it as the pressure is on their costs as they paid a £billion more than what they thought.

hope your good big fella, maybe bump into you tomorrow night :-)

    2. Growing up in Paisley Tony Fitzpatrick was someone whose career and life I was very much aware of. As I said on here the other day I do very much see him as St Mirren’s equivalent to our own dear TB.

    3. Kitalba – the article you quoted ref the aim to have scotland as a non smoking nation (= less than 5% prevalence) by 2034. I’m staggered when hugely intelligent, well read, worldly wise, appropriately cynical folk accept big tobbacco’s spin and downright lying as gospel. I’m not saying you do or did but that ‘article’ is asking to be ripped to shreds given its blatant inaccuracy and ‘angle’.

I have to do that … If I lived where you do, I would weigh 500 lbs…. I love Italy… I have only been once, but LOVED the vatican (I did my grad work in moral theology and vatican history, so to finally get there and see it in person was a dream…. the only thing that may have been even better was the food in Italy … we weren’t eating expensive stuff… but the bread, and cheese, and proscuitto and arugula … and even the coffee! I dont touch the stufff at home, but in Italy, it tasted like heaven!

If they sold prosciutto at Celtic Park, I would definitely get back there more often!

She is far too smart to videotape what would happen when I got back … wouldn’t want it used as evidence against her at her trial!

SoT … I am doing my chef’s course at the moment, and my brother is a better cook than I am (it is how he ended up with such a beautiful wife!) ….so we both like our food ….both he and I agreed that the burgers sold outside of Celtic Park were the worst things we have ever tasted!

Before we waste any more money buying non-scoring strikers, we need to sign up a good French or Italian chef! Would love to see Massimo Bottura donning the hooped apron for Celtic!

Maybe one day I’ll get the chance to hold you to that. I have to say though that eating anything sold from a van outside a football stadium in Scotland isn’t recommended.

so, I have reconsidered my choices for the new chef de cuisine for celtic park …. forget the Italians, I would have to go with Catherine McCord …. a good timmy sounding name, a former victoria secret model and now a chef!

Very saddened to read of the passing of derbyshirebhoy.

People who are ill, are the bravest of brave.

Intelligent polite, respectful football and Celtic opinion with not an ounce of bitterness or malice is his thoughts, a very nice man gone from the world, and the the world wide web which gifted him to CQN.

Deepest condolences to all his family and friends.

    RIP derbyshirebhoy
