Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

“I also take this opportunity to confirm to all Rangers supporters and shareholders that, despite the ill-informed commentary on the subject, the loss of the AIM listing was all to do with the prior Rangers Board and nothing to do with the current Board.

Would that be the “ill-informed commentary” from Paul Murray…..???

It does not help when a newspaper publishes lies leaked by a government department, and a former minister of that department shrugs his shoulders with the comment that, these things happen at eleciton times.

    Good Evening.

Forgive me for pointing out the bleeding obvious but we have been here before.

The news that Mr David Cinninghame King has been cleared to become a Director of Rangers International Football Club Ltd should not come as a surprise to anyone.

The reason that it should not come as a surprise is because there was NEVER any legal impedimant to his becoming a company director.

Most people reading this could become a company director in the space of 5 minutes if they put their mind to it. All you have to do if fill in the online forms, press the buttons on the computer and hey presto it is a done deal.

Obviously we have yet to see the reasonong behind the decision that was made by the Lord Ordinary sitying in judgement but I will venture that the argument that was presented was along the following lines.

    I am Dave King.

There is a company called Rangers International Football Club PLC and I want to become a Director of that company and the rest of the board are willing to approve my appointment.

There was once a company called Rangers PLC that I was a director of but that has gone into Liquidation and has nothing to do with RIFC PLC.

    Can I become a Director?

At this juncture the judge will say yes and look down from the bench at whoever is presenting this pile of trip and say ” Of course! Are you mad? Why wouldn’t Mr King be able to become a Director?”

Now that might be answered in many ways but here are a few sample answers:

    1. Because Mr King has been convicted of over counts of tax evasion in South Africa, was fined and given an alternative jail sentence.

Well, you see that doesn’t prevent you becoming a director of anything. If other people want to make a convicted tax felon a director of their company then they can — if they are that stupid because obviously the banks and the tax authorities might take an interest in that when determining if a company run by such a guy is likely to be able to record its accounts and tax affairs properly.

    2. Oh well how about the fact that this might be a Phoenix company when viewed against the “Old” Rangers?

“Are you asking me to rule whether it is or is not a Phoenix?”

    ” Certainly not!”

” Well that is a matter for the another day? Of course the revenue might successfully argue that this is a Phoenix and there would be consequences – but that is not what I am being asked to rule on today, is it?”

    “Naw”

    3. The SFA might try and say that Mr King is not a fit and proper person?

” A fit and proper person to do what? Run a football club? Run a Pub? Hold a casino licence? fly a plane? Drive a taxi? Deal in scrap metal? what?”

The point is, a person can be a director of a company and if he has been convicted of drink driving a couple of times he will be deemed as not fit a proper to hold a taxi licence by the licensing board. If the same person has operated a pub that has been caught repeatedly selling drink to minors or selling drink out of hours he will be deemed as not fit and proper to hold a drinks licence – by the licensing board.

If he can’t fly a plane, then just because he is a company director he won’t get a pilot’s licence by the CAA, and if he doesn’t have a demonstrable big wad of cash, suitable premises and all sorts of other things you don’t get to operate a casino — by the gaming board.

    But what about football clubs?

Well you see there is the thing — RIFC PLC doesn’t operate a football club. It owns a subsidiary that does but……. well Dave King hasn’t been appointed a director of that one has he?

So that is a busted flush right there but even if he had been then why would the judge declare him fit and proper in terms of the SFA rules in the Court of Session?

The answer is — he wouldn’t and he didn’t?

    Were the SFA there? No

Have the SFA ever been saked to rule on King? NO

Would the judge make a decision on the SFA rules at this stage? NO

Because the SFA rules are for the SFA to deal with — otherwise we would have footballers turning up every monday saying ” Hey Judge gonny rule that I didny dive?”

No, ladies and gentlemen, today we have returned to the good old days of RTC, the Gers and the MSM.

A court case called for the first time today and sweet fanny adams happened.

    You read it here first.

It is clear to me that the AIM regulator simply lost patience with the embarrassment that the company has been to AIM since it was listed.

My condolences to Derbyshire and Turnbull Huuton’s families.

Good guys always seem to leave us sooner. The loss of the two Pauls, McBride and McConville repsectively, has been a great loss to their families first and foremost but also to ordinary people for being able to decipher the legalese to help us understand.

Paul McBride encouraged the OB act but he should be remembered for the way he took on the SFA when they were out to get Neil for anything.

Going by Brogan’s earlier post, today’s court of session decision may have little effect on what is happening at Ibrox but as Jackson has already deliberately misinformed people, the propaganda war will be stepped up, stating the obvious.

  8. I was on a wee session this afternoon so I’m a little bit maith go leor, so I’ll confine my contribution to just one post. If I sober up I might post again before bedtime.

Anyhow scrolling back I spotted Awe Naws post about doing something a little more positive than just posting RIP on site for our departed friend Derbyshire Bhoy. I think that is an excellent idea, unfortunately the post got a bit lost with the fit and proper news about the Glib & Shameless but I just want to say if a plan gets off the ground and someone is raising a few shekels, I’m in.

There was a moonscape across from our close for ages including strange alien craft. Then I realized that they were just about to build more flats across form us and the alien craft were just loads of upturned baths left there by the builder for at least 3 months.

Four Green Fields, its good to hear you and your son had a great time in Dortmund.

Your post about your time before during and after the game was too short in my mind.

Would it be possible for you do an article about your trip on CQN magazine if winning captain’s is willing?

I’m watching ITV 4’s Bundesliga highlights programme from last night. A tremedous show to watch with no sky style syciphants involved.

  12. BTW poor old Rod Clements is having the mother of all bad hair days.

  14. Fourgreenfields

Good wee post about your weekend trip to Dortmund. Glad you both had a great time.

  15. Well the latest court of session stuff is designed to put pressure on the SFA but the SFA will still need to explain the following if they let him in

    (h) he has been convicted within the last 10 years of (i) an offence liable to imprisonment of two years or more, (ii) corruption or (iii) fraud;

    (j) he has been a director of a club in membership of any National Association within the 5-year period preceding such club having undergone an insolvency event;(h)

now the first one here is pretty unambiguous is it not? I wonder how they will get round that one. And the second one? Well that one seems unambiguous as well unless the try and pull a club clumany type situation. Of course Paul Murray gets one on this one two but as ever the SFA are saying nothing.

If both Murray and King are allowed to be directors then the game is again a bogey. Directly ignoring their own regulations eh. Who’d have thunk it??

Isn’t it tomorrow that we find out whether the SFA will make up rules to punish a celtic player for saying either Huns or telling the truth about th huns being dead??

Ah it’s a funny old world in racist Scotland no??
