Direction of travel, splurging cash

310

The positivity around Celtic at the moment is in stark contrast to how things were as we homed in on our fifth consecutive title only a few weeks ago. In football, is seems, where you are or where you’ve been is not important, it’s the direction of travel.

If you’re moving forward, like lower-league Hearts were a year ago, fans flock to support. If you’re regressing, even from lofty heights, you’re on your own.  A friend recently joked, “Why don’t we just liquidate and bring the same directors back in a newco?”  That works for some.

Celtic need this injection of positivity right now, the specifics of which we’ve not seen since May 2000, when we knew we were appointing a manager of real talent. It will cost more money in several areas, of course, but keep one point in mind, talk of £15m on this or that is almost certainly not going to transpire into the splurge you might think. Celtic regularly spend close to this.

The CQN Bookstore has a special offer at the moment: buy Charlie Gallagher, What a Player, and get The Winds of Change FREE! Nice early one for Father’s Day, or just a wee read yourself…

In that same vein, are there any other CQN’ers who were on the Heraghty’s Bar Bus (aka Biff’s Bus) Euro trips to either Ekeren or Xamax in ’91?

I know big Mouldy 67 travelled to Xamax but dont think he was on Biff’s bus.

The Ekeren trip was superb, Xamax less so (for obvious reasons) but some brilliant laughs all the same. Oh and a slightly less brilliant laugh when yours truly almost ended up in a French police cell (I was innocent, Honest guv!!) on the way to Neuchatel, but thats for another day.

    Great memories though.

    HAIL! HAIL!

  2. In the wake of the msm not addressing the Tax Justice report etc, – could a Super (court) Injunction be in place?

I believe that where one of these is in place the media are not even allowed to report the fact.

  3. I’m told the announcement will be made tomorrow

  4. Can I provide an update on the crowd funding of the various advertisements in relation to Resolution 12?

Both Statements that are appearing in the Guardian and Tribune de Geneve have now been entirely funded and paid for, thanks to you!

At the request of the four Res 12 guys, we have moved back the schedule by one week so that they can best co-ordinate all their activities.

The first ads will now appear on Wednesday 1st June in Guardian and Tribune de Geneve with a follow up ad in Guardian on Saturday 4th June.

The purpose of the Statement is to assist the Res 12 guys and they are in charge of the strategy re timings etc.

They are also writing the text for the ads, which I am sure will not disappoint.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed from the Celtic Quick News community and beyond, even if you do support Hearts or Aberdeen!

Not so sure we need much of a splurge.

    Striker – Finnbogason for me!

    Experienced defensive midfielder.

    Maybe another defender.

Clear out a few – Forrest, Stokes, Commons, Ambrose, Izaguirrre, Cole, Kazim-Richards.

    Get Rogic signed up.

    Play McGregor!

Good young players there who can become really good players – Armstrong, Christie, Henderson, etc.

Keep the development players coming through.

How about Stephen Fletcher who is out of contract at Sunderland as a striker?

I was thinking the same chief, that the standing section would increase the overall capacity of the stadium.

It’s just basically replacing one seat with another though, albeit a different design.

    =======

You’d be right to think that was a possibility – you can get up to ~1.8 standing spaces for every seat removed however as this is a trial basis it will be 1 for 1.

Going forward, this restriction could be lifted easily enough you’d think.

I spoke to Jon Darch the expert who wrote Celtic’s proposal regarding Rail Seating about this two weeks ago. He said that there is not a hope in hell that any H&S committee in Britain will agree to the 1.8 ratio.

Finbogasson appears to have recovered some of his scoring form since going on loan to Augsburg but I believe that loan is turning to a proper transfer at the end of the season, so he’s unlikely.

    Agree with you there.

Difficult for the club, though, as we only have the law of the land, as confirmed recently by several courts and law lords, one of whom mocked the whole idea of a club somehow floating about in the ether, to back up our flimsy argument.

    Hail! hail!

  10. I remember the Friday night before the 1989 Scottish cup final.

Celtic paraded Mo Johnston in that rediculous jumper,Celtic scarf held aloft ,infront of The Jungle.

We went out the next day and stopped Souness’s Monkey Huns from doing a treble.

Courtesy of a Joe Miller winner.

My now sadly deceased business partner told me not to gloat ,as Mo would be signing for Rangers.

He lived next door to Gerry Eadie of CR SMITH.

Who despite sponsoring both clubs ,and the secrecy surrounding the judas deal, knew what was going on ,and our directors didn’t.

Best not to intimate deals will be done.p,until they actually are.

The caveats Paul announced are ignored and a frenzie ensues.

    Have we not learned?

Weeminger – cheers. Wasn’t aware of that. Has looked a decent player when I have seen him on the Bundesliga highlights.

JHJ – not for me. Seems to have lost his way a bit in the game.

Pegs, holes, it’s all a lot of nonsense.

    As any fule know:

Round pegs fit perfectly comfortably in square holes provided the diameter of the round peg is less than the length of the side of the square hole.

    And equally…

Square pegs fit in round holes perfectly comfortably provided the square root of twice the square of the length of the side of the square is less than the diameter of the hole.

His Liverpool team during the 2013–14 season interchanged from 4–5–1 to 3–5–2 to 4–4–2 to 4–3–3 to a diamond formation.Steven Gerrard described Rodgers’ one-on-one management as the best he has seen. My vote is for Mark Mcghee!

I liked those buses. I even remember the doubledeckers where upstairs it was a pathway along one side of the bus instead of the middle and the seats were just big long benches.
