The SFA put on a show yesterday, providing boxing and snooker promoter, Barry Hearn, with a stage to take aim at the SPFL. I would urge caution when digesting Hearn’s words. He took aim at some easy sounding targets, for example, the league not having a sponsor, but the league don’t have a sponsor by choice.
The alternative choice would be to sell the rights for a value considerably less than the old SPL’s rights. The league took the view that they would rather maintain their asking price, and go to market when the league is in a more competitive position. This may, or may not, be a wise decision, we don’t know, and neither does Barry Hearn.
He also talked about making money by selling fights between low-quality but committed boxers at £150 per ticket. Good for him. This kind of sport, and his auditorium-filled darts, may well have a bright future, but it’s not the direction Scottish football should be heading.
The backdrop to all of this is what’s going on at Hampden. There is a power-struggle between the SFA and the SPFL. The latter are more likely to deliver radical change, the former want to maintain control, privilege and the bowling committee-type structure which has lasted for over a century.
Can you imagine how inadequate the SFA would appear if the SPFL held a similar forum, with an invited guest there to poke fun at the SFA president’s EBT and “heavily conflicted” past? If the Association are trying to clip the league’s wings I suspect they will fail. It’s more likely the SPFL will redouble their efforts to bring structural reform to our game.
This has become a dirty battle.

I park my car in a street near Celtic Park on match days. As is customary, a guy in his 20s approaches me and asks if he can “watch my motor”. I have always agreed, and been happy to slip him a fiver upon my return. He recognises me and I recognise him and we always pass the time of day.

I was at tynecastle on Sunday and never seen any broken seats, I was 3 rows from the back so was one of the last out and never seen any.
I was also at pittodrie a couple of weeks ago and there where 100s of seats broke but they where damaged due to scoring late and everybody going mental at the end which Aberdeen came out and said wasn’t a problem as it wasn’t intentional and Celtic would pay.
So I think budgie is talking shite and trying to make a name for herself, she needs to get back in the kitchen and get her mans tea on HH

He has recently taken to asking me for the “payment” BEFORE the game. At the Salzburg game I duly obliged. But last night I refused. I told him I would pay him upon my return to an untouched vehicle. After the game, he was there and I paid the fiver. He was happy at that.
Has anyone else been asked to pay in advance, other than in a secure car park? I see it a bit like paying a builder before the work is done. If he already has the money, what motivation does he have to do the job I have paid for?

Yes, lost my Ma in 2003. A great school teacher, destroyed by dementia. She is always in my thoughts.
People (usually kids in my experience) who ask for money to “watch your car” are just mini criminal extortionists. “Pay me or I’ll make sure it’s damaged” is more what they mean.
I normally throw a pound at them when I return but I hate the whole idea.

My son is about £20, we live near Celtic Park. Every home game he meets this guy with a slight antipodean twang to his accent. For some reason this guy doesn’t mind that my son takes his car for a joy ride with his girlfriend for a couple of hours. And not only that, the guy slips him a fiver every time when he gets back…..: )
….last week my son asked for a few quid upfront so he could buy his girl a drink but his Aussie/Scot mate was having none of it……tight git.

When I first drove to CP, in the 60’s, it was the “done thing” to pay the car watchers up front; a shilling, if I recall.
Eventually, once the penny dropped, that often the entrepreneur who presented himself after the game was not the same guy as before, I took to asking him his first name, then told him that he would be paid for his services on sight of an undamaged vehicle, post match.
Worked for me.

With regards to the parking around Celtic Park . Does anyone know what they are doing with the land in the Barrowfield estate which used to be where the supporters buses parked up until 2 years ago. At the recent Dundee game they were carrying out ground works in preparation for some building works. Is this the fabled land in which the huns were saying was bought on the Cheap?
I remember last season there were a couple of enterprising chaps charging £5 to punters to park there. I’m sure it was all above board!
Kitalba/PFAyr – It is indeed strangely perplexing that they had the power to deliver “not proven” but decided it wasn’t appropriate in this case.
Being a cynic, I expect today’s appeal to produce the “not proven” verdict as the SFA eventually see the benefit of the get out of jail option provided to them. In which case I will pre-emptively state that it appears the SFA are comfortable categorically ruling Tonev as guilty of racism, but find it beyond the pale to categorically rule him innocent.

A few years ago, I would park near the old meat market, off Gallowgate. I would give the “parking attendant” half of a pound note, promising the other half after the match, IF my car was ok.
Have heard from a good source, (they always are!) that to get rid of McCoist would cost them 27 months of his massive wages. Just hope to Donald Duck it`s true.
I was amazed to find the toilets still open and fully functional at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Not “fully functional” as you wouldn’t go near the sinks judging by their contents. No I was amazed because the saddo’s usually lock them before the final whistle in an act of pettiness which displays their hatred of us.
Last season at cup game my bro used toilets on 80 minutes into game. At end of game they were locked with them citing vandalism as the reason.
We are to believe that at 7-0 up and chasing an 8th, Celtic fans would choose to leave their seats to vandalise toilets.
Bigotry! Pure unadulterated bigotry sanctioned by those in positions of authority at Tynecastle.
