The great thing about the split in the Premiership is that almost every game has an edge. With three games to reach the top half, Hearts, who visit on Saturday, are just one point ahead of seventh place Motherwell.
Our next two games are home to St Johnstone, who are five point adrift of Dundee but have closed the looked like an unbridgeable gap two months ago. Then we have Kilmarnock, who are just a point above Dundee in the relegation playoff spot.
Only the top two spots seem assured. By comparison, The bottom half of the English Premier League is dead. There is a nine point gap between the relegation spots and the rest, at this stage of the season, too much to bridge. There are several English clubs with something to play for in Europe, but the majority of games in that league are without jeopardy.
The Scottish top flight was best as a top 10, half the league qualified for Europe, two were automatically relegated and the three in between were battling for or against one or the other.
Sport thrives with a competitive edge. This is unmanageable with too many unrewarded survivors, or a disparity between Champions League and semi-professional sides. Bring back the top 10.

United’s probe found a total of 1,523 Rangers fans found their way into home sections for the game, which ended 2-1 to the English side thanks in the most part to industrial scale touting.

Of that number, 567 were in seats reserved for official members, 105 came in via tickets meant for away team friends and family subsequently sold by Rangers or the competition, 367 were in hospitality areas and 493 entered on United season tickets.
A huge security operation was carried out for the match and response teams were on standby to eject Rangers fans. However, due to the significant numbers involved it was decided not to act. ‘There is no safety or security operation that could effectively eject over 1000 people during a fixture’, United officials have told fan groups.
However, the report found that when Rangers levelled a dramatic game they would go on to lose, with two minutes to go, some United supporters took matters into their own hands.

Inside Old Trafford’s night of horror: Uncovering the police operation amid death and mass arrests

‘A number of significant incidents occurred simultaneously which were primarily because of Rangers fans celebrating and then being confronted by United supporters,’ officials said, ‘and in some cases being beaten and assaulted by them’.
United have acknowledged events ‘fell short of the expectation of home supporters who felt let down and impacted on their enjoyment of the game, and (led to a) feeling of not being safe’.
On the night, there were 76 ejections in total. United, who scoured hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, have also pointed out that they were not fined by UEFA for any breaches in relation to safety or security.
They are taking action against any fans known to have sold their tickets to away supporters.

The rags predictably have Raskin at £30 million….no laughing at the back, anyone over there who gets a cap is automatically worth gazillons
I hate the split, the disparity of potentially having to visit Pittodrie or Easter road three times a season when our main rivals may only get one visit to such grounds.
In a league these differences shouldn’t take place.
Next season it’ll be our turn to visit Tynecastle, Easter Road, Ibrox and Pittodrie in Q1 of the league. Meaning we’ll likely be facing a third trip to one of these grounds post split.
Paul67 often talks about developing players, but does not seem to understand what this entails. Too reliant on “data” probably. We have seen where this gets us over the last 15-20 years, a throughput of complete unknowns,,, and a few diamonds. But mainly rust. It is about playing with and or against better players. The SPL does offer this to some extent, but it also restricts the number of players playing in the top league due to its format, too many games against the same opponents, 3,4,5 and even 6 times a season. And, this is the key, a minimum of 4 Old Firm matches. Two league games between the Old Firm is more than enough.

Allthough I can watch a lot of football, most EPL games pass me buy, and I seldom look at their league tables. I do like to see our ex players and some of the scots doing well but that is avout it, and I certainly dont have an english team.
But I am struggling with P67 leader here.
each league position is worth over £3m in prize money alone, Add in tv, and facility money, and the comparible finishing places , and then the estimated ranges. There are fortunes in revenue terms still to be earned which in turn can be spent next season within FSR rules.
So, I dont know what point is being made at all.

How much prize money will each Premier League team be paid in 2024/25?

The EPL seems to be a bit of a closed shop now. The difference between the established clubs snd the promoted ones is getting greater, the mid table teams are all strong and have consolidated their positions with more sensible spending in recent years and employ young, progressive coaches or proven performers.
Joe Hart was talking about it on the radio the other day, he knew all 3 promoted clubs were going straight back down early in the season, pretty much the same as everyone else. He was saying you need real synergy in the club to be able to break out of the promotion relegation promotion relegation cycle you need both very smart people running the club and synergy throughout the organization so executives and the football department need to work together.
He used the examples of Brentford and Brighton, clubs with two owners who use everything available to make the big and small gains that make the difference and a structure that means everyone pulls in the same direction with a common goal in mind
It’s probably one of the most difficult things to do in football these days, establish yourself as an EPL club, but the rewards are there, which is why any genuine premier league team is so highly valued and why so many investors are interested
Bada Bing, how accurate is the Kasper news? Nothing on the official site.
T
the rewards are there for who?
you have to spends hyper-inflated fortunes on players to sign anyone for the epl.
your season ticket prices will rocket.
so its just self-perpetuating spiralling costs for the club and fans to gobble up the money that can be earned.
the fans only benefit is to watch your team play against bigger teams, but its up for debate whether fans prefer to see their team wallow in 15th position in the epl as long as they are playing liverpool and man utd etc most weeks
or whether they prefer the excitement of the championship promotion battle.
you pay your money, you take your choice.
one thing that can be guaranteed is that the extra wealth a club can earn in the epl will never be used to ease the financial burden of the fans who buy the tickets!

There never is anything on the official site on player injuries. You might get some more information from Brendan at his news conference at best he will say that he’s not available for Saturday or for the next few weeks, I doubt he’ll say anything as definitive about being out until September, why would he?
Sinisalo will now get his chance.
If he doesn’t audition well, I’d imagine BR will want a keeper for the CL play offs.
Cheers McPhail Bhoy. Horrible news if accurate.

Always thought “the split ” was ridiculous and nothing will change my mind.
In the old format all teams had two home and two away games, simple and fair in my book.
But the SFA know best eh.
While I’m on, I think the new offside rule is plain stupid. As soon as a player is offside when a ball is kicked forward, flag up. Way too easy really for the cretins who run our game

how do you square the UEFA Champions league format ?
you have 4 home and away ties, but all against different teams. So not a balanced fixture card, but exciting all the same.
cant blame football authorities over the years bringing in potential slight unfairness to try and make a more exciting league.
it doesnt always work, but thats the gamble!
if we dont win the league next season i certainly wont be blaming the fact that we had to go to aberdeen or hearts 3 times.
it will be because we werent good enough.
and the refs were cheating rastards 😄

the difference with that (i think) is that its an open draw out a hat, dont think anyone can really complain when its random like that.
whereas the post split fixtures have to be slightly manipulated. by huns. sorry, i meant by impartial authorities 😁😁
I see ol’ Joey Barton has been found guilty of assault, lets hope he is looking at some jail time.
Thing is the Daily Wrecker has described him as “former footballer”, not even a mention of the club or indeed the stadium he used to play for in these pairts. Must be a new editorial policy. No?
How many times have the now not deed team from Ibrox put 3 goals per game past Cellik recently?
Ah mean, when auld Hugh Keevins speaks more truth than awe the dim Tim Stool Pigeons put together…Timdom really is on its erse!
Don’t be saying yeez wurny telt.

Joey Barton, the pigeon french speaking hun. Pat Nevin must be a pal. Allegedly.
As in Nevin talking pretentious keech, not the assault.
Equating the number of teams in our top league , and it’s reduced amount of competitive matches .
Leading to our collective drop in European success , doesn’t compute for me .
Just look out your front window , and compare the number of kid’s playing football , to when you were a kid .
The reduction in fitba daft bairns playing the game , is the bigger issue.
