Disparity between Champions League and semi-professional sides

89

The great thing about the split in the Premiership is that almost every game has an edge.  With three games to reach the top half, Hearts, who visit on Saturday, are just one point ahead of seventh place Motherwell.

Our next two games are home to St Johnstone, who are five point adrift of Dundee but have closed the looked like an unbridgeable gap two months ago.  Then we have Kilmarnock, who are just a point above Dundee in the relegation playoff spot.

Only the top two spots seem assured.  By comparison, The bottom half of the English Premier League is dead.  There is a nine point gap between the relegation spots and the rest, at this stage of the season, too much to bridge.  There are several English clubs with something to play for in Europe, but the majority of games in that league are without jeopardy.

The Scottish top flight was best as a top 10, half the league qualified for Europe, two were automatically relegated and the three in between were battling for or against one or the other.

Sport thrives with a competitive edge.  This is unmanageable with too many unrewarded survivors, or a disparity between Champions League and semi-professional sides.  Bring back the top 10.

    Hand of God

League can still be won before the split , R2ngers have a habit of slipping up after a dood result.

Or do we hope that they keep on picking up points and get Bazza in the running to be their full time manager.

Either way, hopefully we’ve used the time off to work out a plan to beat them.

    Re Kasper,

I’’m with Bada and think that we should be trying to give other players a bit of games time here and there to build up their understanding of how we play – young players, goalkeepers and centre halves in particular, need to understand how the rest of their teammates like to play to settle in easier.

I know there will be some games where this is not possible but there will surely be plenty where there is that opportunity.

It will surely also add to their sell on value too.

  3. Well if kasper is out then it is the opportunity Sinisalo needs , an experienced defence in front of him who communicate effectively with him and he should be fine, just win all the games to the break and we’re nearly there.

  4. In ither news……………

The Huns “imminent ” take over by the 49’rs investment incubation transmographier seems to be goin’ an’ on an’ on……….

Now if that was anything to do with the ‘tic – the succulent scribes would be gettin’ the message out that things were draggin’, we were dithering, things were stallin’ , sellick were being dificult or slapped down or something sinisiterly horrible that put success a distant possibility……………You know?

Not with the Huns tho……..no spurious, malicious speculation at all.

    Funny that!

  5. Re Kasper – if he is crocked, let the understudy step up, but if there is little confidence in him – we have enough funds to get a decent stop-gap. Never Gamble With Celtic’s Success.

MH- He looks a cracking prospect,it was more the aspect of not having experienced CP on a match day,he might have played in front of a couple of big crowds playing for Finland, but CP is something else,

  7. Sinisalo has experienced CP on a match day. He started in an earlier round of the cup.

Sinisalo has just returned from international duty with Finland (albeit their 2nd choice to Bayer Leverkusen’s keeper).

I have no concerns with starting Viljami on Saturday if Kasper is unfit.
