Disproportionate load ahead of Tannadice cup tie

234

Dundee United lost their first game back after the winter break; the seven games since have seen them lose only once, and that was to the last gasp Liel Abada winner at Celtic Park.  The defensive qualities they showed that day have been evidenced since, as they have not conceded in the four games that followed.

There is a lot of football to be played in the three weeks before we face them at Tannadice in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup, Celtic have at least six games, United have a maximum of four, a heavy load for the visitors.  If Celtic overcome Bodo/Glimt in the conference league, they will have a last 16 tie on the Thursday before visiting Tannadice on the Sunday.

Despite our comfortable win there earlier in the season, the disproportionate load facing the teams, will make this a difficult cup tie.

  3. The last ( and only) time I was in Arbroath to see The Celtic WIN ” 9-0″ ( I THINK that was the score line ?) in the 1980’s with ANDY PATON scoring a Hat Trick at least ( I Think ?)

DANNY MCGRAIN MAY have been Arbroaths manager that night ?

I went on my supporters Bus, and we had a right good sing song as we watched The Celts…ESPECIALLY as The HUN THUG ” Scott Nesbit” had just announced his retirement thru injury from Fitba a couple of days earlier.

I LED the song from the Terracing that Night with my mates from the bus joining in…..

    ” Scott Nesbit…Collects a GIRO”

    LOL

    Nesbit WAS a Hun Thug/Animal.

  4. Rangers went burst owing in the region of £170m.

What would have happened if John Keane had not stepped up in 1994 and our club had been liquidated over a debt of £5m?

Would our liquidation have been treated differently than rangers’ liquidation?

    Here’s my take.

The SFA rule book would have been pulled out. Before admission to the league you will need 3 years accounts.

Celtic would have been playing non-league football for 3 years followed by years in the lower divisions. David Murray and his friends at the bank of scotland wanted Celtic killed off. They would have gotten their way.

Fergus would have walked away and we may never have recovered.

  5. ERNIE LYNCH @ 2.37

The Ole Gunnar Solskjær for Aberdeen stories are interesting. I assume Fergie is involved there somehow.

    —-

Interesting thought – never occurred to me. Would he really be drawn to the Dons after Utd?

If it did happen it would be a coup for Aberdeen and take away the pain of Glass appointment very swiftly. Perhaps we would see an influx of Scandinavian players….could be good for the Dons & the league.

My money is on Jack Ross. I think Hibs will rue his departure, just as Aberdeen do Mcinnes.

    a pure random for today.

I watched the Arbroath v Hibs game, and quite enjoyed the views from the tv gantry, the antics of the fans, and the old feeling of a real cup tie, If i lived near the town thats the kinda game i would attend.

Is there anti celtic feeling around the town any ?”

Anti-Celtic feeling from Hun supporters, naturally (!) but the majority of Arbroath fans I know don`t seem particularly interested in either us or Them. They probably have a slight leaning one way or the other but it is not obvious and generally it is `one side is as bad as the other` but even that is fairly low key. Even so,I try to educate those people but it is a tough task !

Judging by the numbers on the Supporters Bus, there are certainly many more Celtic ST holders in the town.On the other hand, there seems to be a fair number of Masons but even some of them are Celtic supporters! Honest.

  9. Non – Celtic post.

I was watching a debate involving Ian Hislop and some MP`s. One of the latter was a Scottish guy named Alberto Costa. He seemed a dreadfully conceited character. Anyone know anything about him?

You twist what I’m saying into different timescales to suit what your trying to say.

MON told “us” what the custodians were going to be like when, MON, as a Celtic manager goes out of his way to warn “us” about what the Lawwell era was going to be like, when MON said…..

“In terms of European aspirations, Celtic supporters had better be prepared for recruitment from the slow lane.”

MON warned “us” Timmy, and the board was financially backed££££ with 53,000 season tickets in virtually all of the 18 years since MON left us, and we have never got beyond the first knockout round in Europe since MON left us. And now we’re in the Euro 3rd division, with Ange ball.

  11. No away fans at the Glasgow Derby should continue for the foreseeable.

I’m sure both the people of Glasgow and the Cops would welcome that. Every seat sold, no segregation empties and no no-go areas outside the ground. Much safer and less tension.

As for SKY, do they have a ready reckoner for how much they pay versus size of visiting support ??

    No away fans = £x

    800 away fans= £x plus

7500 away fans =£x plus plus

Sonic BOOM ‘shakes windows’ across north west England as BAE Typhoon jet breaks sound barrier during training mission over the Irish Sea

A Typhoon caused a sonic boom which ripped across the North West of England this morning.

The jet created the huge bang as it jumped to supersonic off the coast of Southport, Merseyside, at around 11am.

BAE Systems said the aircraft, which took off from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, was part of flight testing alongside the RAF and apologised for any alarm caused.

The firm said the Typhoon – registered as Apollo 11 – had been operating in an offshore range area but the sound may have travelled due to ‘climatic conditions’.

The huge sonic boom was heard across Lancashire, Cheshire, Manchester and Merseyside.

Terrified residents thought an ‘earthquake’ had ripped through the earth and said their homes and windows shook.

The jet was part of the Typhoon development programme, which is part of the UK’s attempts at safeguarding national security.

A Royal Air Force plane was in the area during the trial but a spokesman confirmed the military jet did not go supersonic.

    Political career Edit

At the 2010 general election, Costa unsuccessfully contested the Angus constituency; where he finished in second place behind the sitting MP Mike Weir of the Scottish National Party.[6]

On 27 February 2019, he was asked to resign, and did so, from his role as parliamentary private secretary in the Scotland Office following his tabling of an amendment to protect rights of EU citizens. Shortly before his resignation, Home Secretary Sajid Javid backed the amendment in a committee meeting and said that the Government would support it.[9] It was later passed unopposed, approved ‘on the nod’ by the Commons
