Disrupted Motherwell vulnerable down Celtic’s left

177

Martin O’Neill spoke to Talk Radio on Tuesday and he rejected any congratulations for coming through recent games with league and cup challenge intact.  He made the point that there is nothing won and no guarantee that will change before the end of the season.

At halftime 12 days ago, Newco thought this was their year.  It might still be, but you see how quickly sentiment can swing in football.  Now Hearts fans are actually beginning to believe what is being said about their chances, the younger ones, anyway.  You can understand that, if Celtic were five points clear right now, you and I would be in no doubt who would prevail.

Motherwell will be without Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh tomorrow.  They normally compensate for Stephen’s absence by moving Stephen O’Donnell (33) inside from right back, and sliding relatively-inexperienced midfielder Tom Sparrow back.

If we get further up-field than we did against them in December, there is an opportunity to exploit a disrupted back line, especially down our left.  Hopefully Kieran Tierney is fit to start, with Marcelo Saracchi able to offer fresh legs later on.  Auston Trusty fulfils his final suspended match; I expect Liam Scales to be partnered by Dane Murray in central defence.

Martin’s biggest decision will be who to play in the No. 6 role, if Callum McGregor is still out.  My campaign for Reo Hatate to occupy this slot will hopefully be rewarded soon.  This is our final game against a top 6 side until the split; a win would be massive.

  1. Time to get back to business.

Too much to hope that our wingers and strkers will deliver a performance that justifies their selection? Someone has to start scoring, surely?

If it’s true that at away games the GB take any seats they want and tell folk to F off then fek them. Who do they think they are?

We play first so it’s vital to apply the pressure.

Hertz and huns both away, with Hertz playing on plastic against a team fighting relegation and managed by a couple of pundits who’ll want to do the team they’d rather be managing a favour.

Hopefully that’s the old firm fest out of the way now. Just about, at least. Embracing old firmery means accepting the rough with the smooth, although I have yet to figure out what the smooth is on the Celtic side. Let’s keep it coming though!

Won’t be easy against an extremely well coached Motherwell. Looks like being our hardest remaining home fixture.

Can see it being a tricky game for Hearts. Never easy there and Killie will be keen to bounce back from that big beating in their last game.

Anything on the stewards who attacked the children inside Celtic Park a few weeks back?

  12. onenightinlisbon – I’ve heard they have been doing that for years. A good friend was at Dens last season with grandson and was terrorised by them when he tried to sit in their allocated seats. One spitting on him. Just banter though, eh? I am sure plenty of you will have similar stories.

There is certainly a hardcore Ultras group that have no respect for the ordinary fans, never mind for the Board.

  16. Has the Ibrox DJ on Sunday been asked directly why he elected to play the full version of STB thereby teeing up thousands (not a small minority) to indulge in a resounding chorus of “f— the Pope” ? All that did was stir up sectarian hatred tenfold.

Would he have played that before a European game ? Not a chance. But he obviously felt there are no boundaries in Scozia. A damning indictment of this country.

  17. TBB,

So that’s how to support your team? What century are you living in.You forgot the ,fold your Tartan shawl over your knee properly, don’t slurp your tea from your flask, and always look straight ahead, its rude to keep looking at others.

Were you ever in the Jungle,or the old” Celtic End”?.Going by that nonsense,I doubt it.

Wether you or anyone else likes it,Ultras are now part of football, worldwide. They are not going to go away, and, unlike you,I think we have great bunch of Ultras.Their support for Palestine, has been applauded throughout the world and shown on screen.Great for our club. They supply food banks,do great charity work.

They have never been involved in,the kind of Ultra behaviour we witnessed on Sunday.

    What exactly is your problem?.

If that’s a fact , we need to try to rid ourselves of these characters . Point them in the direction of Ibrox where such behaviour is indulged .

To be clear , I’m sure there are many in the ultra groups who don’t treat fellow supporters in this way . Equally , I’ve witnessed unnacceptable behaviour from more mature supporters who are not attached to any group of ultras . It’s life. it’s society .

  24. Hamilton was granted a gun license by the Deputy Chief Constable of Central Scotland Police, Douglas McMurdo. Despite Hamilton’s known criminal history and behavior issues, the police continued to issue him licenses for firearms, which has been a subject of significant controversy and scrutiny following the tragic events at Dunblane Primary School in 1996.

    Wonder why?

  25. That pitiful reply from our Chairman yesterday was a disgrace.

All week we have been attacked by the Media as being complicit in Sundays shame. He had the perfect chance to nail that lie, instead he fluffed around it.Sitting looking like Ronnie Corbett telling one of his chair jokes, instead of ,at least standing up for the club and its fans.

“We will leave it to the SFA inquiry”.

Good. Luck with that. The narrative is already written there.

Even on the GB,they are not even allowed to go to the games, even when they are not part of the GB?Never been charged with anything ?.WtF is that about. We accepted that as a reason to keep the ban.Gutless.As I said,we will see if the Union Gimps take their seats this week, how Police Scotland actually does work.
