Divisive, self-serving and gone for good

377

The first question I was asked this morning by a solicitor and non-football fan was, “How much is Brendan Rodgers worth?”  I said, “He’s probably earned around £30m over the last 15 years”.  “So he has enough to sue, if anything Dermot Desmond said is wrong”, came back.  You and I both know, he’s not going to sue.  It’s all true.  It is also high time Celtic took a direct approach to communicating with the supporters.

Who of us would have guessed that Brendan Rodgers, Brendan Rodgers, the man of legendary impeccable character, would have his “conduct and communication” called into question?  How shocked was I to read that Brendan’s assertion about the club were “simply untrue”!  Untruths come easier to some than others.

Two players in particular are pertinent to the assertion that Brendan had “full knowledge, approval, and endorsement” of players bought and sold; Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn.  “Sell them” is not what should have been said when offers came in for either player.  Brendan has favourites in the squad.  Others, not so much.

The first thing Martin O’Neill is likely to do when he meets the squad is put an arm around Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, and put a call into Cameron Carter-Vickers.  Where there are favourites, there are outsiders.  Celtic have looked and played like a team divided for most of this year.

This absolute mess was predictable and predicted.  On his return as manager in June 2023, I wrote, “Brendan will find a united dressing room, backroom and supporter base.  We should all try hard to keep things this way, self-indulgent schisms do nothing for Celtic.”  Two years later Dermot Desmond wrote that Brendan’s words and actions were “divisive, misleading, and self-serving”.

Predicted: “Self-indulgent schisms” and we got “divisive… self-serving”.  I called it.

The wee-man toxicity that left the club in 2019 was welcomed back to my utter astonishment.  Pardon my, “Welcome to Celtic, Brendan” on the day, it was with the best intentions but not entirely sincere.

Martin O’Neill was brought in with a remit to unite the dressing room.  A team divided cannot win.  Players need to know they are respected.  The Honda Civic stuff was not a material comment, merely a public manifestation of what had been the reality at Lennoxtown for a long time.

Celtic has been set back years as a consequence of the decision to appoint Brendan in 2023.  I hope the board recognise this, reflect how it came about and on their role in the mess.  If you welcome the fox into the hen house, you cannot complain when he eats the hens.

  1. Martin should be good for us short term…he knows scoring goals is more important than possession stats…I’d imagine his mantra would be get the ball to the midfield/ forwards as quickly as possible and go for goal with any/every opportunity..

    All about opinions.

IMO, Neil Lennon is not the type of character I would describe as a Celtic legend.

Never heard you so animated before. We will see how chirpy you are shortly.Martin is a football Dinosaur.Game has moved on.Only there as a shield for the Board.

    Low bar set here.

  9. Will be at Celtic Park tomorrow night cheering on the Celtic. Hope there are many more like me. Falkirk were one of the most entertaining teams to come to Parkhead last season. We might get such a game again. When were we last really entertained by a Celtic team recently? Boring is putting it mildly.

Why John Kennedy left would be very good to know. He, for one, is Celtic through and through.

People in a job for years with no output.

Maybe Martin could be the person for that job.

  14. Asked earlier…can we call back ALL of our loaned out players?….Martin will want a bigger (BIGGER) pool to pick from…

That’s story has come from an agent who is close to the club.

  16. Susan Whelan is rumoured to be next CEO.

Nicholsons position is untenable. DD dealt with Rodgers. He made that statement and he’s also called Martin to offer him the job. MN credibility is shot to pieces. He has to go.

  17. Rodgers, Lawwell, McCann, Desmond, etc, these are symptoms of the TORY capture of Celtic FC since 1994.

As is all seating, All season ticket, surrendering fans power to their TORY overlords.

Fergus did not build the stadium. Fans did.

Was it 2, 3, share issues that were overwhelmingly subscribed to by ordinary Joe Blogs level supporters?

If Celtic fans had not bought these shares there would be no stadium.

But fans were well aware of the Thatcherite Taylor Report “gun” at Celtic’s head to have a stadium up and running by a certain deadline.

In fact, the SFA were threatening Fergus McCann with banning Celtic from playing at all, if thy did not agree to pay extortionate hire fee for Hampden.

McCann apparently told the SFA that we would just put down seats inside Parkhead as it was and play there.

SFA told McCann that if we did that, “IT WOULD BE GEALIC FOOTBALL, NOT SCOTTISH FOOTBALL YOU WILL BE PLAYING THEN.”

McCann coughed up instead of going public and taking these anti Celtic bassas to Town!

And Celtic supporters love Scotland. lol

But over emotional, or even misdirecting, fans who write history books totally overlook the fans contribution since 1994 as they are too busy kissing Fergus’s erchie!

Even today 31 years later – only the fans money goes into the club and the rest disappears onto the balance sheet sieve full of holes, trap doors, tunnels, Rabbit holes, like a Harry Potter theme park.

    Ach well.

“Susan Whelan is rumoured to be next CEO.”

    ……..

Hopefully she is appointed on MERIT and not for diversity reasons?

Diversity is a road to hell!

Sinn Fein, Ireland’s new President, Snp, examples of chaos everywhere that diversity/colour/revolution/touches.

    Oh dear!

Hopefully she does not do Illuminati symbols with her hands like Ireland’s lovely new President. lol

tomorrow night will be eventful to say the least.

  22. Tomorrow is the dawn of a new (temporary) era. Let’s get right behind the team…let’s show we mean business…I’ll stick by my 5-0 prediction because I think we have far superior players who will be let loose..our fight against the board should be postponed until Thursday…

  23. Sack The Fans who’ve kissed the corrupt boards erchie since 2012!

They even bought tickets that said “Sevco are Rangers” and called people “trolls” for asking questions about this selling of Celtic’s soul

“Oh but it was good when Rodgers-1 was happy and giving us waves and blowing away Rangers teams full of 4th division players, but Shhhh, don’t mention that bit.” lol

The issues at celltic go much deeper than the manager, simply supporting the team whilst those who run the club show no vision or interest to improve a is stupid. There is no nice way of protesting vut its very nature it is disruptive. Sometimes its needed when all else fails.

Just for a minute thing about this, we charge supporters and arm and leg for season tickets, we haggle ovrr a few 100k when trying to sign players, webarebalwaus under prepared for most important games of season, we have a neglected stadium inside and out, we dont have hot running water in the upper north stand, try being disabled and having to be wheeled across grade 3 gravel, the foodnis bogging and over prices as is the gear. Rhere is barely a pre or post facility for normal supporters The board do the bare minimum and call normal supporters spoiled if they raise genuine concerns.

This all comes on a backdrop of having paid 24 million in corporation tax overnthe last 2 season. Paying tax is all fair and well but that money could have been put into improving facilities, creating employment throught said upgrades, reducing supporters cost to attend games etc, but no not this board.

Funny enough the board make sure they have hot water, heating, good food, good parking and nice access routes to /from the stadium etc.

Interesting that the CFO signed off the statement to stock exchange and rumours that the CEO and Chairman might be replaced.

Maybe DD has decided it wasn’t just Brendan’s fault?

Imo those rumours will firm up prior to AGM in late Nov.

In my view they were in the pipe long before yesterday.
