Doing your talking on the park

603

Scott Brown’s comment that the players will “look to do any talking on the park” is what you want to hear from the captain this week. Scott’s only just returned from a lengthy absence and is yet to get into full flow, but on form, he is the difference between an anaemic and an effective Celtic.

It’s always hard to judge from the stands what a team is missing when it’s off form but it’s clear we need leaders on the park to grab hold of games and dominate opponents. Scott is our most effective player in this role; a lot of responsibility lies on his shoulders in the coming weeks.

Saturday can’t come soon enough. It’s a far more important game than the semi-final I continually see articles on.

I’ve been in touch with three of the Res 12 guys and hope to pick up on this shortly.

  1. Help.

I have received a letter from the Halifax regarding my Celtic shares. (No, I’m not rivalling Dermot Desmond…yet)

The letter says that they will be unable from Aoril to deal with my shares, including reinvesting my dividend in buying new shares (about £15 worth each year).

I only have them in the Halifax for somewhere to hold but have no clue about shares or dealing.

Grateful if someone could enlighten me on this.

Absolutely. It’s a point I’ve made on more than one occasion.

Essentially if the Board do whatever suits The Great Desmondo then they’re acting in the best interests of the shareholders.

The fact that a whole lot of small shareholders take a different view isn’t really relevant.

  3. Make sure, before you play Devil’s advocate on behalf of the board, that you don’t, by your own admission, fully grasp the issues involved.

    That should turn out fine!

  4. Ernie

    Of course it’s relevant.

However, you are right in so much as the thousands of small shareholders will be marginalised.

    English football …….1500+ drug tests

    Scottish rugby……….100+ drug tests

    Scottish football……..8 drug tests

Looks like gambling against your team, drug taking, not paying taxes, racism, intimidation etc etc etc are all ok in Scottish football. It’s the league where anything goes……

  6. I wonder what percentage of the Celtic rank and file support are even aware of Resolution 12.

That is the real tragedy in this.

i would hazard a guess and say less than 5% (1 in 20) of Celtic fans ever read blogs (Using people I know as a sample….how representative this is I have no idea, but instinctively think more fans read the MSM than blogs like this)

So there we have it……Unfortunately Resolution 12 will be allowed to go out without a whimper.

Scottish fitba and it’s governance are Donald Ducked…..the only consolation for the bloggers is that they know it before the lumpen proles find out when the MSM eventually give up on it too.By then it will be too late.

The Old Firm have been engaged in persistent mutualism for the best part of 120 years . Mutt n Jeff

*And we only have to go back to 1952 when arch bigot george graham he of the song “and his name is big geordie he’s loyal and true and his durty big nose is the right shade of blue” fame to qualify this.

Taking advantage of the referee’s report after a bit of serious misconduct from a game against them the committee recommended “that the two clubs should avoid displaying flags which might incite feeling amongst the spectators”.

With the backing of harry swann chairman of the Leith souptakers, who had the Irish Harp removed from the front of Easter Road (no easy task as it was brick built), and wanted to change the club’s name to Edinburgh City, ditching the green strip for purple, demanded our club remove the tricolour from the jungle stand.

This flag was presented to the club by 1916 veteran Eamon De Valera, a contentious figure himself, the demand to remove it came only 3 years after the demise of Belfast Celtic who were forced to cease existence following a riot that led to the vicious attack on their players leading to the serious injury of one of them. Bigotry from the opposition was at the root of it, and if Celtic were not to follow suit to Belfast Celtic then the club had to make a stand for itself and its history.

Bob Kelly defended the club’s traditions and It all went down to a final vote, which ironically was the zombies and they actually voted for us. This was due in part to the financial aspect of losing Celtic as an opponent as well as they were themselves in the dock for the crowd trouble so kept the focus on us.

graham and swann kept at it and Bob eventually told them he would close the team down and play gaelic football there if he had to. In the end we won.

It’s quite galling that 42 years later the Ayrshire rag and bone man wanted with the help of the bank and I have no doubt farry and peat etc, to put us out of the game, for money again, but European money this time, don’t forget that he was one of the architects (nae pun intended) of the current Champions League shambles, as we were the main threat to his grabbing it. Thank the Lord for the Bunnet and John Keane we prevailed.

bader really is a despicable but sleekit character. He put airdrie out of the game because they owed his company money and yet I have no doubt assisted in placing peat with stenhousmuir so he could have another brither at hunden.

We should be more attentive to 1994 than 1952 and forget the old pals act both at G51 2XD and G42 9BA.

  9. This season will be a watershed moment for myself and many other Celtic supporters.

My blind faith is being tested.

I always loved the defiance of the Celtic support to a country that despised them.

And the greats who rose above the cheating and obstacles `to give us such unbridled joy and reasons to be.

Stein,Gemmell,Murdoch,Auld,Hay,Connolly,Johnstone.Lennox,Chalmers,Wallace,McStay,Burns to name but just a few.

The custodians have meekly accepted our place in Scottish society and have been complicit in trying to crush the rebel spirit.

These charlatans will one day be gone but the rebel spirit will live forever.

    Prophet vs. profit ??? eh?

I’m glad 45% of arse tanning lovers of the Celtic ilk are making a statement about showing up for this semi final fiasco. Despite the fact that in the last 20 years there are 22 trophies documented that Celtic should not have bothered showing up for because the same “team” were cheating. Big time.

    There’s critical thinking.

    There’s discussion and debate.

    There’s verbal communication.

    there’s books.

However, when even Pavlovian conditioning fails to imprint a change in behavior then one may as well give up sit back and watch the horror show unfold from a distance.

  13. Ernie, JJ, Hamilton – it’s a fair point and it’s not just about the great Desmondo.

The club might be able to argue that there research / correspondence with fans indicated that while some may boycott overall they expected an increase in revenue if they played along.

However, even if that were the case I don’t think any potential uptick in ST sales would outweigh lost European revenues. Not just in terms of direct CL money but also from endorsements, increased profile etc.

If, as some suggest, UEFA will not truck with fans/shareholders then I think AIM is the next step. I’m not a shareholder though, so it won’t be me.

Anything that puts Res 12 into the wider sphere is worth it, because my impression is that folk outside social media don’t really know anything about it.

BTW where are the other clubs in this?

For those that haven’t already, take the time to read the accompanying article re Celtic’s first trip across the Atlantic in 1931. What a trip and what an itinerary, they didn’t have algorithms in those days. Not all fun and games on the football side but the welcome and interaction in New York, Boston, Montreal, Chicago etc must have made it a life changing trip for all involved. Sad to know that on one occasion John Thomson and Joe Kennaway actually played against each other.

time restrictions on clubs being able to contact Uefa – time bar on complaint ( Res 12 ).

Uefa will not entertain shareholders no chance. The letter will be acknowledged then dismissed and by that time the deadline will have passed.

Like Scottish football balls demanding action from the SFA. Same will happen with shareholders sending letters to Uefa.

Unless its a member club then Uefa will take no notice.

If CFC think its a WOT then why advise shareholders to write to UEFA? If CFC dont think its a WOT then why not write themselves?

Any complaint made to Uefa would have to come from a member / Association affiliated club not from punters with shares.

That to me looks like a stalling tactic a waste of time. Are Uefa answerable to shareholders complaints? NO CHANCE

For any complaint to be taken serious it would have to be lodged by the club.

Shareholding & shareholders only carry weight within structure of our own club. As for Uefa it holds no leverage at all.

Unless its an official complaint made by a Uefa associated member club. Shareholders / Fans? REALLY? not for me.

Agreed but after communication is est, Uefa are not bound to take action on behalf of shareholders of a football club, that has to be done by those at CP who are employed to represent the shareholders No?

Time line as fas as i know is almost caput. So would it not be better if club made interest official?

Uefa would then have to a knowledge, but fans / shareholders the letter could be binned.

Our club / PLC represents shareholders its the cart pulling the horse in this case. Its nonsense.

Only people Uefa will take any notice of is the club Fans complaints will only be acknowledged nothing else.

Unless its a properly registered complaint from a member club via Association anything else is time wasting.

  20. Can anyone tell us if shareholders can call for an EGM? I found this today trying to discover the answer to my own question.

Members’ power to require directors to call general meetings (sec303 – sec304)

The directors must call a general meeting if so requested by the holders of 5% of the voting shares (or 5% of the voting rights if there are no shares). (The figure was reduced from 10% to 5% by the Companies (Shareholders’ Rights) Regulations 2009 (S.I. 2009/1632), reg. 4(2).

The request for the meeting must state the general nature of the business to be dealt with and may include the text of a resolution to be moved at the meeting (provided the resolution would not be ineffective (e.g. under the Act or because contrary to the company’s articles, etc., and provided it is not defamatory, frivolous or vexatious).

If the request is properly made, the directors must within 21 days call the meeting for a date not more than 28 days after the date of the notice calling the meeting. If the request included a proposed resolution, that must be included in the notice, which will then be part of the business that can be conducted at the meeting. (If it is a special resolution, the notice of the meeting must say so, in accordance with sec283, above.)

If this is the case could some legally minded supporter(s) call for shareholders to request an EGM on Res12?

  21. The first touch was clearly cheating, in that he controlled the ball in a way that others on the pitch couldn’t. The shot was cheating, as although he hit it at the keeper, he battered it, not allowing the keeper time to save the shot.

Back doing same and heading out for a curry.

Lots of issues coming out of this that I’ll do my own best to cover idc but here is the biggie for me.

Why haven’t the SFA simply answered a series of questions put to them by shareholders of Celtic in a letter of 23 July 2015.

Why have the SFA not dealt with information provided to them in August 2014 re Res12 and Sept 2014 re LNS?

A further observation is why are Celtic the de facto point of blame for some?

That is not to say a bit more vigour could have been applied but the chosen route of resolving Res12 after the 2013 AGM was domestically and that has been stated before here and it is the SFA who have the power to defuse without involving UEFA.

Either there was an overdue payable by 30 June 2011 that should have been reported as such or there wasn’t.

That is ultimately what Res12 was trying to establish and SFA intransigence since 2014 is THE major factor.

We don’t need to go to UEFA if SFA would just answer the points raised in the Celtic shareholders letter.

Heading out soon but will look in later.
