Doncaster beats No Surrender Longmuir

948

The appointment of Neil Doncaster as chief executive of the newly formed Scottish Professional (sic) Football League was a forgone conclusion, No Surrender Longmuir was interviewed out of professional courtesy, and the clubs realised that the calibre of external candidates they would attract at the moment would be from the bottom of the corporate pile.  Frankly, a heavy hitter would not apply.

Now that Doncaster is freed from his previous preoccupation – trying to parachute a new club into top flight football – he can worry about his key performance indicators, bringing commercial income into the league.  If he can’t deliver a good deal, or scams a ‘Homecoming’-type deal, by pulling money already committed by a benefactor, like his pal along the corridor, we’re better off without him.

My thanks to Billy No’well for inviting me onto his podcast show, Desert Island Tims, available here.  I had great fun choosing material for the show and even more fun talking about Celtic, and life, with Billy.

Your assumption that I am a nationalist is wrong. For the record, nor am I patriotic. I’m aware that the lines drawn on the same by rich and powerful men are not for my benefit.

I’m also aware voting for one puppet or another wont make too much difference to my life. It doesn’t really matter too much who is going to exploit me. I know whoever is elected is there to enforce the imperialist agenda of the wealthy families. The capitalists democracy is just a dictatorship of the corporations that really rule us.

I’d rather this land was made for you and me.

I don’t understand what seems to be glaringly obvious to me that the majority of Scottish people are socialist, yet many of them would rather Scotland was rules by right wing England, and pay to subsidise them.

It seems to me that many Celtic supporters wish to remain under control of the Queen because they fear what may happen under Scottish Presbyterian rule. I would have thought they would be better off by infiltrating Hollyrood and ruling it.

In the words of my Our Father:

    “Imagine there’s no countries

    It isn’t hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

    And no religion too

    Imagine all the people

    Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope someday you’ll join us

And the world will be as one”

There is a border between Scotland and England that highlights separation and division.

I don’t believe in God or Santa and although everyone is free to, However I don’t see what part they play in whether Scotland should remain part of the union or not. I do see how one persons God causes separation with another persons.

    ASonOfDan @ 18:11

We are all in it together with the union? I’m paying a bedroom tax while the MP’s who decided that fiddle their expenses and give themselves a £10,000 p.a. pay rise.

As posted in my first post in this subject. I think ‘We are f*cked if we vote for independence and really f*cked if we don’t’. As I have posted since, I don’t think it is going to make a great deal of difference to my life.

We need a lot more than that. We need a new world order. Don’t think we subservient are ready yet to take the action required to make that change.

We can’t even have a football authority that applies it’s rules to all clubs equally without fear or favour. Instead of a competition with justice and integrity, we settle for just entertainment.

    There you go again.

I am sick of the Irish nationalists trying to say Scotland can’t be independent from the UK because it is different from Ireland.

I would have thought any Irish nationalist would be happy to see the further disintegration of the UK and all its wares but apparently it’s only everybody else who was part of the British Empire who is allowed to leave, not Scotland. Deary me.

It IS different and for that reason it should be treated as a movement striving for political autonomy and Independence without the bloodshed or the violence – in many ways it could be one of the most revered examples of separation in history along with the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia – a bloodless revolution. The days of bloodshed fighting for Scottish Nationhood are in the long and distant past. This is about getting true democracy for Scotland because within the union you live in a society being torn apart and made bottom heavy because policy and wealth creation is going south and specifically South East.

It’s not about colonialism, it’s about getting the right to run our own affairs in a union where we are supposed to be equal partners but people in Scotland have either been unable to do anything about it because of historical situations like there being no vote in 1707 for the majority of the population or because the British state has crushed rebellions from the Jacobites or because the British state knows and knew full well that money, religion and the possibility of benefit from those things was the way to buy the Scots or certainly those Scots in positions of power – it still goes on today with the unionist politicians only more Scots have woken up to the fact that this union is not for their benefit and has not been for a long time if ever.

Yes some Scots have benefited from the Union but who are and were they? Mostly the wealthy and the powerful throughout the ages.

Have ordinary Scots and Scots business interests not been oppressed by the union?

Darien was a sickening piece of skullduggery where our supposed King blocked our ships under one union (albeit only of the Crowns). Quite a coup. Aid in Scotland’s bankruptcy so we can take it over financially and politically.

Perhaps you’d like to comment on the 1705 act of Blackmail by the then English parliament who closed their market to Scottish cattle, coal and linen and declared that all Scots would be treated aliens. It showed the vulnerability of Scotland to a trade war at a time when Scotland exported 50% of its goods to England. Is that not a form of economic tyranny? Should the Scots have ignored this and died? A shameful episode as far as I’m concerned.

The bribed Scots politicians who made a wad signing away our autonomy – a true parcel of rogues.

The riots that took place in Edinburgh and Glasgow and the following lawlessness post act of union which you say was all about religion when the Act guaranteed a separate church while telling us our speech was incorrect, vulgar and not proper (for low people of low intelligence no less) – have you ever Read Robert Fergusson or Allan Ramsay?

Or how about even Arch Tory Walter Scott who wrote years later-

“I ken, when we had a king, and a chancellor, and parliament – men o’ our ain, we could aye peeble them wi’ stones when they werena gude bairns – But naebody’s nails can reach the length o’ Lunnon”.

Aye, it’s all about the Church when the Act of union secured the Church, the legal system and the education system. Deary me. I’m afraid the culture has always been ahead of the politics and thankfully we’ve so many fine writers to articulate these feelings.

The massacre at Culloden where British forces murdered Highlanders and clansmen because they thought them inferior to the British (including Scots born soldiers killing their own people).

Are the Highland clearances not an indication of what this Union is really all about – rich people getting richer and poor people treated like dirt?

Have they not been used as pawns of Empire to subjugate other people and steal their resources for the benefit of the wealthy? Aye, another wonderful benefit to this union still going on today.

You see the Union quite cleverly exploited these things. It’s a more subtle form of oppression. It’s softer, less violent, less confrontational but it still hurt and hurts ordinary people none the less.

The Union did all these things TO Scottish people not for them. It and those who support it look down on Scotland, Scottish language, accent, culture, music and tradition as being parochial, laughable not for serious stuff like running a country. Don’t you just love being patronized?

They still use these same tactics 300 years on but we’re equal partners?

The War helped foster this sense of being in it together but those days are gone, as is the relevance of religion from being a socially dominant force to being a virtual irrelevance as a piece of moral guidance for many many people. Scotland is changing and so is the world around it. Britain is a failed state and being part of it makes less sense now than it ever did and I never agreed with it in the first place but wasn’t around to voice such a concern like everyone reading this.

It’s not about fighting with England, ethnicity, religion or any of the other things which unionists talk about but which Scottish nationalists or more accurately those voting YES don’t, it is about wanting the right to govern ourselves in tune with what we believe and vote for.

Where Scottish and Irish independence IS similar though is in this sense – in those countries there were and are significant numbers of people who do not and did not want to be ruled by a government miles away who know and knew little if anything of those respective countries other than for what they can use them for and get from them.

In other words – down with the union.
