Done in the name of Celtic fans

Saturday’s victory is unlikely to feature in the season’s highlights DVD but it was our ninth consecutive domestic win and despite a few shaky moments at the back we’ve conceded only twice during that run.  That compares to only three clean sheets in our nine previous domestic games.

Despite selecting from the same personnel, Celtic have a vastly improved defensive unit; comparable to last season’s record breakers.

Europe is different. We conceded home and away to Salzburg and Astra, keeping a clean-sheet only at home to Thursday’s opponents, Dinamo Zagreb.

Done in the name of Celtic fans yesterday:

Did you read that the Celtic Foundation hosted 120 people who use the services of the Glasgow Simon Community yesterday?  The Community have assisted the homeless for over 40 years.  Community chief exec, Lorraine McGrath, said, “Too many people still find themselves without a home; more than 6500 people registered as homeless in Glasgow last year alone.”

You can get involved with the Foundation’s work this Christmas by coming to the game a little early on Sunday and shaking a collection bucket.  As well as the Simon Community, the Foundation aim to help Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission, the Scottish Refugee Council, The Invisibles and Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

That’s an incredible amount of work to carry out in your name over the coming weeks.  You can sign up to help with the bucket collection here.  You’ll enjoy it.

The CQN Annual is coming off the presses this week.  It’s a full colour Celtic extravaganza.  Order yours HERE now in time for Christmas!

  2. I said early on in the Yes/No debate that it was important to call out the objectionable stuff on both sides.

In that spirit, I want to tell horrid henry that he is doing no favours to his and my side of the arguments with the personal stuff.

You do not have to be an uber-loyalist.

The Labour Party has made many mistakes and An Tearman has been merciless in pointing them out.

Your core view that they are still the best option for the working man, might have some merit but only if you have ears to listen to the justifiable complaints about how badly we have been let down recently.

I think An Tearman and those who have arrived at the same position will find that the Independence movement, still hugely controlled by the SNP, will be another God That Fails, and that no change other than a border line will be effected, but, you cannot describe the decision to keep faith or abandon faith with the Labour Party as either wise or stupid. It is, at best, unproven.

So Celtic will most likely sit top of the league round Christmas, and the transfer window will pop open for what seems could be a busy January.

The SMSM race to offload us of Van Dijk, Guidetti and Commons gathers pace in time for the big opening, while Berget will slip back to Cardiff, and some other peripheral players might, and in some cases definitely won’t get other options.

It’s one thing writing in the Daily Record et all that £10million will appear in Celtic’s bank account for VVD, and another having it actually happen, I think Celtic will finish the season with the Dutchman still en board, EPL clubs don’t buy big in January, and Celtic can afford to wait.

Beram Kayal could get a move, as his Celtic career stalled some time ago, otherwise he’ll be a free agent in summer as there is little likelihood of a Celtic contract. There is still time for potential buys in Tonev and Wakaso, though if pushed Parkhead permanency looks unlikely for both, on the evidence so far.

With John Guidetti the favoured striker we once again as Saturday showed have a vacancy for another top class striker, and while John Guidetti might be as good as it gets at Celtic for the moment, there is still room for improvement.

If the squad remains relatively intact the midfield will benefit from fit players and sustained runs are required from the usual suspects, I imagine the pimpernel midfield creative, will still elude us, although RD will continue to try to make it, his Celtic side.

The curious case of Kris Commons whose gone from 32 goals to one foot out the door allegedly, I believe is about money and length of contract, and much less to do with a lack of suitability to RD’s ‘system’. It seems we developed an odd strategy where we simply don’t give, more than a year at a time when a player gets over thirty, yet Liverpool for example are negotiating a deal with 34 year old Steven Gerrard,

I think it’ll be a busy window, with comings and goings, and a surprise or two.

If you thought Bill McMurdo was funny yesterday you’ve got to read this.

Apparently, Ed Milliband is now involved in the destruction of SEVCO.

Memorable for the winner coming so late in injury time you’d have thought the referee was putting in for overtime. I had a seat against the back wall in the Northeast corner, looking straight down the stairs. When the ball hit the net I went up & forward. But for the timely intervention of a fellow Tim I would have needed a parachute to survive!

Most of the stuff on that blog is written by Jack Irvine rather than Bill McMurdo’s son.

That particular effort may be one of his own … I’d give it a Bonkers rating of 10.

The big question has to be why a supposed attack from the political establishment on Mike Ashley has anything to do with undermining Sevco?

As far as I’m aware, Ashley has never put a foot inside Ibrox or actually invested any money in the new club.

  9. My friends in Celtic,

I have to agree and disagree with sipsini @ 13.33 hrs.

He is correct to point out the graffiti in Barr & Strouds. He could also point out the wall to wall toilet graffiti in the shipyards.

He could again point out the “landmarks” of “No pope here” plastered for years in various Glasgow locations.

Did any of this make the papers ?

However, we have come a long way, stories of kids wearing crash helmets in their team’s colours are now only required for nostalgia, as is reporting the hundreds of arrests at games.

Our standards are so much higher now and that is the sad part .

As with the rest of us in our youth, maybe a minority of our fans need educated.

One thing that has not changed:- Revelations about a non story in the press can be treated in the time honoured manner used throughout the decades.

They can keep our chips warm

    HH to all.

  10. Dear SMSM,

It only takes ONE wee anonymous daftie to daub some graffitti about 66 dead Rangers supporters.

It takes THOUSANDS of Huns in FULL public view to raise choruses about John Thompson, Jonny Doyle and Tommy Burns.

Save your mock outrage for your inbred ludge hate-fests you hurtin’ zombie scum.

  11. Always agreed with those who suggest we shouldn’t reply to what mssm say as it just gets twisted ,but the attacks on our club seem to be on the increase. Time to put a few in their place.

They hate us that much that we could bring about world peace or cure cancer , they would just say we were costing jobs in the NHS and in the shipyards etc.

Apologies if that sounds crass but getting fed up with it.

  12. bournesouprecipe

I think we will also see a couple of the young team going out on loan to toughen them up with first team action elsewhere, after reading the article on Liam Henderson perhaps a loan period could hep him in the way it helped Calum McGregor.

If the window slams shut how does it open? Flies open? Magically opens?? Readily opens?

When Denayer is back fit, would you still play Efe?

  15. The barrage of recent anti-Celtic stories and the delay in coming to a decision on Tonev leads me to believe that there may well be some very bad news for the teddies in a week or two with possibly only the imminent festive season to ease the gloom.

We best look after ourselves when we look after our own.

Efe is one of our own. So if he’s fit and focussed then he should keep his place.

BSR – Efe will always have bombscare potential!

And/but young denayer isn’t the finished article yet either. Tends to lungs in often from the wrong side. But what a range of padding from deep.

  17. Patrick27,

If Efe is playing solidly then he deserves his chance to stay in the team.

Unless the player returning from injury is clearly head and shoulders above the player currently in the team in their place (say Henrik v wee Shaun) then Ive always thought that the player in the team deserves to stay there until they feck up or their standard of performance drops or alternatively the returning player shows in training he is clearly the better option.

It’s a tough one as I think Jason Denayer is worth his place in the side also. Although as a young player it’s no surprise he picked up an injury having played so many games .

Would have Efe at right back before Adam Matthews

Pigalle (and what an eye opener of a place that is), the RST statements on the graffiti and their mock outrage definitely adds to the enjoyment of their slow lingering deaths. Only about another 90 years of pain to make up for their treatment of Catholics.

I’d like to see Efe in a holding midfield role, though not sure about his passing. he must have the world record for most closing down defenders beaten surely.

No.Not in the same class.I like Efe,but as I have said a hundred times before,he is never a CH.Cant jump.Gets caught under the ball far too often.Think Efe could do a great job for us as part of the midfield at times.Wont happen though.

As RD said,Denayer is already a £10 million player.Enjoy him while we can.

    Jamesgang,

True neebs. He needs to think and take a breath first. :))

  26. Im a fan of efe as I’am with every celtic player.. even the past few clean sheet games I think he has been hesitant on the ball… although he is definitely getting back to top form.

Its a tough one for ronnie.. keep playin ur own and leave loaneess as back up.. but then our chances of keeping young jason in loan another season would be slim.

Id like to see virgil rested for a game or 2. Playing great but every player needs a rest now and then.

  27. borgo

Never been sure about Efe at RB – seems secure there defensively but we don’t seem to have the same attacking threat as with Adam/Lustig

Efe in the Victor role would be interesting – like you said though can’t see it happening, think Bitton will be our man this year in similar position
